I’ve yet to hear the Mars Volta, I never really go into ATDI, what used to annoy me was the fact that their afros seemed to get more coverage than their music in some circles!

ATDI were fantastic. Anyone who has been to one of their shows must have been blown away by their energy.
Sparta’s album is also great, but more conventional emo- / alternative rock.
The Mars Volta seem to have more of the weirdo spirit of ATDI due to Omar and Cecdric I suppose. I’ve seen them last year and it was a bit too spacy and carried away. The album seems to be far better than their first EP.

I’ve always been a big fan of ATDI but missed any chance to catch em live. I saw The Mars Volta play a while ago, thought they were pretty good. I haven’t checked out Sparta yet, although I bet I still prefer ATDI among the three bands. Dunno how many times I’ve been playing relationship of command. Brilliant!

Title: check out the new SPARTA single (band featuring ex-at the drive in members) (merged)

hey dudes

just a bit of music recommendation…dunno if any of you are familiar with sparta, featuring jim, paul and tony formerly of SPARTA

they have a new album out PORCELAIN which i bought a few days ago and its awesome pretty much post hardcore and their songs go to two extremes either really soft and beautiful or more hard and rock

the new single is called BREAKING THE BROKEN, check it out even if your a mars volta fan and have taken sides against sparta, even though thats all a load of crap

SPARTA - BREAKING THE BROKEN (in WMA format)

awesome song. hope you enjoy it

I prefer them to The Mars Volta, but that was already discussed about a year ago.

You see, elephants never forget. :)

Title: Sparta (merged)

I saw Sparta live here in Sydney about a month ago and even though some mags say that they have no stage presents live I thought they were fucking brilliant and Kerrang backed me up on this one. I recomend there latest album to anyone I thought it was better than Mars Volta, just really good songs and one of my albums of the year.
Anyone Got an Opinion be it good or bad?

Some gneral remarks about Sparta and Mars Volta. Personally I prefer Wiretap Scars over Porcelain.
I like sparta more than Mars Volta as the latter are too wearisome to listen to. But both can’t come up to At The Drive-In.

I agree At the drive in were just a great band I’ve got a dvd with there performance on the jools hollad show and it just makes me laugh.
Also being a sound engineer I found the production on the new album brilliant which i found slightly lacking on wiretrap scars.

the mars volta is ok - and i mean really really ok.

at the drive was fantastic - never saw them live, but that must have been amazing!

but sparta, man.. unbelievable! whenever i hear wiretap scars - hell, there’s just not one bad song on it, such a great album! ok, i got to admit, porcelain is a bit less, but what can you do when you’ve already put out a masterpiece.. all hail to sparta, they’re incredible! :)

I listened to Killing Joke the other day and it made me think how good Sparta is. Very weird actually.

nope, they played 2 songs, one of 48 mins and one of about 15 mins - mad show. stood there with my mouth wide open (had expected something completely different) and regularly watched my clock (never a good sign, i know), so believe me ;)

Just listen to Deloused…, it already sounds like a jam session. and they extended that live. I agree with sister, they’re carried away too far on stage, it gets boring.

one extended jam-session it was! not just song1-song2-song3-song4-… but song1-outro (for about 48 mins) and then song2-outro (for about 15 mins) and that was it.

anyway, to be honest, it wasn’t really boring, it was more eeerrhhhh… some kinda insane… a lead singer running around, screaming and climbing up to the amps, the other band members going crazy on their instruments, the crowd not knowing what was happening and not knowing what to think… really crazy… a show i’ll probably never forget..

don’t really agree on deloused sounding like a jam-session by the way. listened again to it yesterday night, and i really like it - great album!
