Simple is often the best way

Therpay? have always made great stuff but they aren’t the most talented group of guys technically but there music seems more appealing to me than the ‘multi talented’ groups such as Iron Maiden and Metallica. The only hard peice of guitar work I’ve hard if the rapid hammer ons and pull offs of the solo on ‘Jam Jar Jail’. Anyway, hope they keep going with there 70’s punk kinda revival but I wouldn’t mind some more stuff like off Troublegum-Semi-Deatached.I dunno how to type down the tabs on the computer so if you could tell me then I’ll get busy.

Are you kiddin’? There are many complex parts in T? songs, just listen to the drums in Opal Mantra, for instance, and This One’s For You isn’t the easiest song to play, I think. Misery is pretty hard to play too, I guess, because of the timing and stuff. And just how many rockbands do you know who use a cello in their songs? Not many! Even though some T? songs may sound simple, they are harder to play then you think!

T? may very well not win the technical achievement award, but they stand out in what they do best.
I mean, every ‘rock/metal’ band uses power & basic chords that are fairly simply to play. I’m not a ‘good’ guitar player but it’s what you create with it. T? are very good in writing Powerful compositions and have catchy singing lines. Andy may not be the best singer/guitar player but he’s a damn good song writer, performer and one hell of cool bloke. Fyfe was/is a very great drummer indeed. He’s very, very accurate and precise, but I think Graham does it different and fits more into the songs.
The main thing I always like about Michael is that he can Jump up and down for 3 mintues AND play bass guitar. Now that’s a hard thing to do I must say. I always like playing T? bass lines because they are fast, inventive and very fun to play. Agree?

I think they just write great songs, you don’t have to be a brilliant musician to do that. the beatles are a good example of this.
I would have said that the drums are the most technical apsect of therapy?’s music. (look at other peoples misery, or big cave in).
but at the end of the day they’re just good, old, catchy songs.

i think they’re good at what they do, and i love fyfe’s drumming, it’s fukin amazing. howevr, most people i know who don’t like them, and that’s pretty much all of my close friends, dislike them because they are’nt challenging enough in their music. I got into them bcos I love the lyrics, but since having transcended to a higher level of sentience ( I’ve turned into a muso ), I also really appreciate how great it is musically. Evn fyfe’s drums wouldn’t sound that good if they were on there own, but when you add everything 2gethr, it just flows, and that’s what’s so cool about it. It’s more fun to play T? with other people, unlike if u just played some putrucci or portnoy bit, which generally sounds amazing on it’s own. In all, T? arn’t about technical genius, more Space-Shuttle luanch precision on their timing and brilliance with their lyrics. They are one of the tightest bands I’ce evr heard live, and hey, I love them!

Yep, Fyfe is spot on…’Teethgrinder’ is without a doubt THE most difficult song I’ve ever tried to play on drums, simply impossible. And let’s face it, it’s a shit song with Graham’s drums. Has anyone listened to Fyfe’s drums in Divers? They sound like the beatings of a man who is severely pissed off such is the unbelievable force he exerts. I always have great fun trying to match the noise level of his drums when playing those songs. Absolutely brilliant! By the way, Opal Mantra is kinda hard, but get’s a lot easier the more you play it.

well, I think I’m one of the few who actually prefers grahams drumming to fyfes, even on the new version of teethgrinder! don’t get me wrong fyfe is a brilliant drummer, but grahams style just suits the music, especially on suicide pact. Given the choice I’d go for graham.

We’ve heard Graham drum the songs that Fyfe originally drummed on.

It won’t happen, but it would be an interesting thing to hear Fyfe drum the Semi-Detached and Suicide Pact songs…
