Tune to C and mess around and you’ll probably get most of it yourself. There’s also some tabs round these boards somewhere.

Polar Bear’s man riff is like this;

c————————————————————————————-
G————————————————————————————-
D#————————————————————————————
A#————————————————————————————
F—10-7-7-7-7-7-7-9-7-7-7-7-7-7-5-7-7-7-7-7-7—7-7-7-7-7-7
C——————————————————————-3—————-

The solo is the same but bend the root notes.

Well, if that’s any help…

LEARN TO LISTEN TO SOMETHING, AND THEN WORK IT OUT! FOR FUCKS SAKE!

kids, today. imagine if Jimmy Page, or Jimi Hendrix had the same lack of ability as some of you people! how hard is it, really, to listen to a note on a guitar… and then play it!

GET. A. GRIP.

ok dude chill out i dont think its quite as easy as that its not like everyone can pick up the guitar and play like page or hendrix now is it, imagine how many people would want to play guitar if there were more people around like yourself who refuse to give out help im seriously glad you are not a representative of the whole guitarist community

Get a grip

There’s more to it than just thinking. Somepeople don’t have the knack of working out tab by ear. There’s no shame in it.

look my problem is not lack of ability or lack of independant thought i am quite a proficient guitarist if you need proof let me know and ill post some of my bands songs.

My problem is like Misanthropologist said i do not have the greatest ear in the world and therefore i find it hard to figure out music i listen to i have a try at it as can be senn from my attempt to work out rock you monkeys which is by no means a hard song to play but the difficulty lies in figuring the damn thing out.

so if you have all this talent but arnt willing to help out please instead of lecturing me about how crap i am and how i should be ashamed by my lack of guitar skills kindly fuck off

I’m with these guys - I am a compitent bassist + guitarist but play from memory not ear - I cant listen to something and play it back but i can watch or read something and play it. So fucking what - still managed to play in bands for 3 years and gig on a regular basis.

Chill out - people have to start somewhere.

exactly ive been playing guitar for 4 years now and ive been in my band for over a year and in that year weve done 3 nationwide tours with 2 more getting planned right now, so jsut because you cant work out music by ear means that your an incompetant guitarist by any means

I can play along to most things if they’re playing and I’ve got a guitar, but I appreciate that people can have trouble with it, and there is indeed no shame in it. My freind is really good at it though, we say to hime something like ‘Hey, Chris, play the theme tune to captain scarlet’, and he’d do it without ever trying it before!

And hey, I’d like to hear some of your bands songs just for the hell of it. My e-mail address is in my profile.

you can learn more if you actually sit down and work it out yourself. plus most of the tab out on the net is totally wrong anyway

drop your tuning to c…then drop it the bottom string in the same way you would for drop D.This is now drop A , and I’ve found that most of the songs are in this tuning. If youre guitar is buzzing when you take it this low or the strings just flop around
1. Your guitar may be a bit “crap”
2.You need to raise the action, This means it’s a bit harder to play, but it sounds a lot better.

Also it means you can take a lot more of the bass off the settings… and still get a growl from the bowels of HELL!!!!!

Title: p.s

High gauge strings are a definite advantage too.But this may be my own opinion here.
Im a big fan of listening to stuff to figure it out…Im not really one for tech stuff…but I can noodle with the best of them..I think it all depends on the person..I learnt guitar when I was kid listening to Kyuss, Ive been playing for 8 years, and I couldn’t tell what the strings are on the guitar, or what chords are what.
Its just horses for courses…Different people, different approaches…BUT

THERE IS NOTHING(!) BETTER THAN CRANKING UP ANY THERAPY? ALBUM AND CRANKING UP THE AMP AND PLAYING ALONG, REGARDLESS OF HOW YOU LEARNT IT, OR BUM NOTES

OK, I’m confused here.

EADGBE (normal)
to
CFBbEbGC (tuned down to C)
to
BbFBbEbGC (tuning down the bottom string in the same way as drop-D).

So isn’t this drop-Bb?

maybe, like I said I’m not really competant when it comes to tech/ tab…written stuff…You’re probably right.;)
Have you tried that tuning?…its pretty low.”from ear” its a close match to the stuff Andy’s hitting…(i.m.h.o.)

Alex is right, you tune the guitar to B and then drop the bottom sting for drop A.

But I have nver heard Andy use anything lower than C on the album- and the video of them recording Polar Bear that linked off the limited edition of nane showed Andy playing it tuned to C, definitly. Panic and Plebians were played live with the black SG that Andy tunes to C as well.

He’s right, I think, which means I agree. Playing T? on bass therefore is a lot easier wih a 5-string because you don’t have to retune your bass or use several different ones.

Oh yeah, forgot about those two. It would make sense, of course, since both were originally during the Semi-Detached sessions.
