therapy? came number 25 with troublegum and babyteeth came in at number 51! this list wasn’t compiled by journos, it was done by musicians so it has some respectability, even if one of the members of B*witched are named in the list of judges…

Well, two of the girls in B*Witched are the sisters of Shane Lynch from Boyzone, Ronan Keating of Boyzone is Graham Hopkins’ cousin so maybe she knows them ;) Tenuous. Very tenuous.

I had a look on the Hotpress website theres no link just an advert for the magazine with the list.

Its good to see Babyteeth getting some recognition normally in these types of best album polls its just Troublegum.

Number 1 was Astral Weeks by Van Morrison. There was a LOAD of Lizzy albums in there, even more than U2 I think which was interesting.

I was half hoping to see Kerbdog in there but no joy. Still, seeing Babyteeth was good enough.

i was happy to see My Bloody Valentine in there at number four, hotpress also gave Never Apologize Never Explain a 7/10 which isnt bad for an indie mag like hotpress. They said Last One To Heaven is a Loser sounded ‘trite’ and ‘childish’ though… i think whoever reviewed it just looked at the title of the song and said “Im gonna blackmark this one”…

Probably, but I do think Last One to Heavens a Loser is a weak effort. Certainly not as good an album closer as Rust or Stalk and Slash.

fair enough, but im not sure why the reviewer made the distinction between one song and the rest. to be honest if i was a reviewer and heard ‘rock you monkeys’ id think that was more childish than ‘LOTHAL’

i wonder do t? design songs like rust etc to be album closers? and the same with album openers? i dont think rust for example would work anywhere else in HA, if it was in the middle or the beginning it wouldnt work. maybe the sequencing of the album has an effect on your perceptions of the song, and reviewers perceptions of the song. id have liked to see ‘polar bear’ at the end cos i think it has a good ending, and a hypnotic bass riff, buts thats only my opinion. im happy with NANE cos its a ‘full’ album, with a distinct mood rathe rthan ‘HA’ which felt like a collection of potential singles. which isnt bad in a way, but i still feel NANE comes out on top.

Here what HotPress had to say about T?

Therapy?
Troublegum

The most unlikely record to get into the top 5 since Moterhead’s No Sleep Til Hammersmith,Troublegum turned Therapy? into pop stars for one gloriously rambunctious summer.
With a cover of Joy Division’s Isolation and Andy Cairns admitting Screamager was inspired by The Undertones Teenage Kicks, there’s a strong sense of the trio paying tribute to their heroes. The stand out was Nowhere,a classic tale of of youf alienation, while ten years on still raises a smile withs its opening “Heaven kicked you out/you wouldn’t wear a tie!” gambit. It also confirmed Fyfe Ewing as one of the best drummers to paradiddle his way out of this isle.
If you’re wondsering who the bloke with his head in the dustbin is,it’s celebrated artist and photographer Nigel Rolfe who’s made something a career of getting bollock-naked in public.

Babyteeth was listed at #51 but it didn’t have anything written about it.

nice to see a northern irish musician at the top of the list. just out of interest, were there any other northern irish artists apart from therapy? and van in the top 100 and if so where?

i’m guessing at least snow patrol, ash, divine comedy, undertones, stiff little fingers, … were in there somewhere. but then again if the mighty kerbdog (and i’m assuming if they weren’t in the top 100 then neither were wilt) didn’t make the cut then maybe not…

not trying to say kerbdog are from the north by the way

All the Northern Irelands bands you mentioned were in there (I think).

Yeah I think its a disgrace that Kerbdog didn’t make it personally.

great live act though.

If they asked, I’d probably have done B*witched when they were famous. but they didn’t.
