Reading Fez

#

Started by Alex

Back from the Reading gig. Yeah I know it’s a Friday night, but I’m not drinking at the moment, yadda yadda.

It was a short set — they were only allowed an hour as the Fez kicks everyone out so they can get people in who pay for club entry (no free night entry as per the Zodiac).

I can’t remember the set list — thought the first 6 or 7 songs were all from NANE/HA. Changes from typical set on this tour, e.g. London, no Unbeliever/Church Of Noise, start with DLAMF. No Epilepsy or Stories. Encore was Loser Cop, Isolation, Knives.

Very little chat, if any, between songs, due to short time slot.

Any WoMbles there that I didn’t meet? :)

The sound was appalling (esp the bass sound from the PA stage right), but the atmosphere was really good I thought. Must better than Oxford last night.

Great fun, can’t wait for the tour next year!

Title: Support act just before Therapy?

Got to gig later than we should have, only saw the support act who were on just before Therapy? me and my mate were mega impressed, one prob didn’t catch what they were called.
They were the 2 piece any one enlighten me please.
Sound broke up on the bass at a few points, but it was a million times better than the Lostprophets at the appollo the other week.
Andy,Micheal and Neil top show, 4 times this year, get the dates for next year as i may go into withdrawal.

Hello, I was at the Fez last night. Been a big Therapy? fan for what seems like forever.. First saw them in 92 at Reading and I think the last time I saw them was 94 in Shepherds Bush??? So 10 years odd but the were fucking great!! :D Maybe Brixton or Astoria 95 but hey.. I agree Andy did seem a bit odd!! But they played most of my fav’s and the dedication of Die Laughing to John Peel was nice!!

Tis’ good to see a band not giving up what they love doing even though they have been through some tough times, I have to say though that I’m not sure about the new meterial and still think their last outing was one of the best they have produced (High Anxiety) and it was brilliant to hear ‘If It Kills Me’ which is one of my favs from that album.. Only things missing were ‘Trigger Inside’ ‘Church Of Noise’ and ‘Satan’ but I suppose they only had an hour.. Gonna go see them next year on Tour..

Pissed off I forgot my camera and Mp3 recorder as I could have caputred the whole thing perfectly in such a tiny venue!!

Title: Andy was ill

We were chating to the girl who sells the merchandise before the gig and she was saying Andy had a really bad throat and they had been feeding him honey and lemon all day. It certailnly seemed that way he was struggling at some points but all credit to him for keeping going it was still a cracking show!

Loved when they played Potato Junkie and the crowd was all singing out of time so Michael stopped to get in time with everyone!

Ill? I thought that he was really HIGH on something. Never seen Andy on stage like that, and I did wonder. He seemed really fucked up! Respect though for a great show!

Yeah, he was struggling with high parts in Oxford, he said as much.

In addition, I’ve had a stinking cold since I went to the Astoria. I always assumed feeling crappy after gigs was down to alcohol etc, but seeing as I am completely off the booze at the moment, I know it’s not that. So it must be the sweaty smelly and already-ill people all mingling in the heat of those venues that does it!

In London, down at the front, fair enough. What worries me is when you are at a smaller venue, say, Oxford, in this case, and you are walking past someone at the back, who hasn’t moved all gig etc, and they absolutely stink like a park-bench tramp doing a Special Brew super. Now, what’s that all about, huh?
