Well, I’m an eBayer, and one question keeps playing on my mind. Why the fuck do people bid any earlier than the last day or last few hours, or even better, last few minutes and seconds? It makes no sense, and simply pushes up the final price. Are they stupid?

Some of us don’t have the time to be sitting next to a computer waiting for the minutes to tick down. When Im at work I might not get to a computer for hours so if I see something Id like I bid on it and see what happens - its not ideal but its the only way I can work it

Then I hope you’re bidding for things no-one else wants, otherwise I can’t see how you ever win anything. And you just make items more expensive for the eventual winners - internet geeks like my good self :p

Depends on the item. If it’s rare and I really want it, I’ll use the “Buy It Now” option if available. Otherwise I poach at the end.

When you bid, you’re placing the maximum amount that you’re willing to pay, not an actual bid. The system bids for you automatically, so its best to bid ASAP. IF everyone did that, the auctions would be better and people wouldn’t get poached all the time (I HATE it when that happens!)

im sick with the amount of people selling scams/links on there now. it just takes longer to find what you want

have you noticed the xmas tresure hunt thing?
people are putting ads on there to try fool people into bidding silly amounts of money for what they think are prizes from ebay

I do ok. Haven’t won everything I wanted butI just bid the max I reckon its worth or that Im willing to pay - it might jack up the prices but Im trying win it too - not make you pay more. If you’re willing to go over my top bid then fair play.

well if i want an item, i bid the minimum value to buy it, then i wait til the last 10 minutes to make other offers.
or if i want an item but i know i can’t be there to watch the end of the auction, i put a reasonable price i want to buy the item, if i get lucky i get it for the price I decided, or, if i’m really lucky, less.

ebay related question:

i opened a paypal account. if i pay trough paypal, do i have to pay more? (i explain: paypal wants money from me for the transaction? - i can’t find costs on the paypal website) i know you have to pay paypal if you RECEIVE payments trough paypal, but dunno about if you make a payment.

No, you don’t pay money to Paypal when you make a payment; they charge you for moving credit from your Paypal account into your bank account (ie. when you receive a payment).

well, another one ebay related:

teel me your opinion…

actually i’m playin a little bit of magic the gathering, the card game. it was since 1994 that i wasn’t playin it, but a saw a friend of mine playin it, so i decided to get off the ashes my old cards and i sometimes have a game.. well, i discovered that there are guys really CRAZY for this game, and card prices can be really high. watched some auctions and there is a card (“BLACK LOTUS”) is selled for over 1300 € ([b]1300€[b]). sounds crazy, but i decided to invest some money on this, since in italy there are really a lot of MTG players.
what would i do? i’m gonna buy some cards from USA on ebay and then sell them here in italy. in usa MTG cards costs less than here (for example if in italy a card value is 10 €, in USA is 8$). also the value of € compared with the US$ makes cards a really good price for european buyers.
wondering if i can earn some profit from doing this, or is just a loss of time… since i think there are a lot of guys doing this “job”, i suppose it might be a good chance to make (not too much, right, just a little bit) easy money without waste lot of time…

Black Lotus is in demand because its the only card to get banned immediately after release as it made games completely unfair(my girlfriend plays) so its a collectors item.

As for selling them check out what they’re worth before buying them try http://www.cardsuneed.com (its in £s though but will give you an idea)

Aaaaah, Magic. I started playing it quite early, but stopped collecting as it seemed to be a rip off with every new expansion set, not really improving the game play (in my opinion) but just putting collector’s items onto the market.

The first thing you should do is buy all my cards for a lousy 500€:D
I played it too, but lost the fun when I realised that I had to pay all my money to keep up with others. One of my schoolmate sells them and says he that you make the best price when you sell them as rare packages (1rare, 3 uuncommon and 5 common). If you buy, most cards are cheaper when bought single (if shipment isn’t too expensive).
Good luck and make a profit.

I used to do the same thing with hockey cards. I once worked at a toy store and we could by boxes (26 packs) for $10.00. Then we’d sell the good cards to shops and to other people for the collector’s price.
