yeps, but what do you think? how high is the chance that something like this will be happening?

I have no idea - I don’t see why they’d mind but I don’t know anything about copyright and what not. I’ve emailed them myself about it anyway, I’ll let you know if they get back to me :)

i’d be up for doing something by myself or with my band. my band currently play bad mother live even though it’s pretty much a straight rendition of the original. but without cellos.

I think it’d be a good thing to have some pretty straight renditions of the origionals. In fact, most of this thing probably should be. But it should have a certain different… something (in most cases being recorded on a clapped out 4-tack, probably :)).

Title: straight versions

our version of Screamager is pretty faithful to the original although the timings on almost every riff have changed a little… into a perhaps harder punk/metal direction… but as I say our version is pretty faithful to the original track… a few beats have changed along the way though what with us using a drum machine things invariably sound different anyway… so rather than try to emulate a real drummer.. I ran with the drum machine and there is a little bit of a Ministry meets Godflesh kind of vibe to the rythum section… I hope people will like it… I imagine they will… it’ll be cool if we get the go ahead in the new year… it’ll be an interesting way to start the year…

i think the therapy fan cd idea is a great one!

a friend of mine organised a Feeder fan tribute (he’s now made 3) with Feeder fans covering their tunes, i did a couple of acoustic songs for it, but would to get my band to do a therapy? cover for a tribute CD as myself and my drummer are heavily influenced by them.

Everyone in my band is a massive T? fan. We’d gladly do a cover of any song especially something like ‘A Moment of Clarity’, ‘Misery’ or ‘Evil Elvis’.

This is a sterling idea by the way.

I’ve made an acoustic version of “Lonely, Cryin’, Only”, too and apparently a band called Neil Diamond has done that as well.

Hey. I’m sure the legals will come thru etc, which I guess will mean it will all be done thru this site. But if they don’t, (as per the post above), I’d be happy to put the songs on the other site, as I have done with the other few covers that are on there.

(Oh, and if anyone else wants to send some covers for that page in the meantime, feel free.)

Title: permissions

thats great… I am really pleased that the lads think it is a good idea…

… with regards artwork should the project gain momentum… there is a guy that both myself(Scott) and ‘Bones of death’(Liam) know that is really up for getting involved if artwork is required and from what I gather he is a great artist too… I saw one or two of his doodles a long while ago and they were pretty impressive… it might be cool to have him do some Therapy? caricatures…

… as it looks like things are going to take off an idea that we had was to have either a gatefold sleeve with photos of each band with a little blurb about who the band/individual’s are and how they first started listening too Therapy?’s music… another idea was just a collage of pics of the bands/individuals involved as an inner sleeve design…

… SO… look out a good quality printable photo (preferably 300dpi jpg or a large sized photo) of your band or yourself… just incase the legality thingies get sorted and we get the green light… at this time I dont know how things are going to play out but I would think it best to take our cues from the band themselves what with all the legal thingies that need to be taken into consideration… who knows Andy, Michael and Neil might want to hear the tunes first before they are made available… it might be cool too if they were to engineer any deals regarding liaising with an independent label in order too put the resulting cd out for general release?!?!?!

what are the bands involved going to do in terms of recording? are you going to do a studio or a home / live recording? if this goes ahead, i wouldn’t mind shelling out to go in the studio to do justice to the song (if my band are involved that is).

Title: recording

as far as recording goes… its very much a case of whatever you can do as long as the quality is as good as you can get it… I can personally remaster tracks (for free!!!)… but you cant polish a turd!!! hahaha if the sound is incredibly bad it’ll remain incredibly bad… so do what you can with the sound to get a good recorded sound… a good tip for most bedroom muso’s or people on a tight budget would be if you are intending to record either live or you need to mic up an amp… if you have a camcorder hook it up to your pc ‘Line’ input and use the mic on the camcorder… as a rule camcorder mics are usually 99% stereo compressor microphones… so you will get a superior recording quality as opposed to using a traditional microphone… what you will have to bear in mind though is ‘spacial awareness’.. and what I mean by that is that with a camcorder mic being stereo you will have to choose the position of the camcorder with a little care so as to make sure that the sound that you are recording is centred (about equal in volume in the left speaker and the right!)… although this can be corrected its best to get it sorted before rather than later… if you catch me drift…

got two weeks of vacation coming up so I’ll give it a go on a few.

I’m thinking of Trigger Inside, Nausea, and Opal Mantra. Hopefully one of the three will come out okay.

Need some advice though.

I’m using a digital studio, and plan on doing both lead and rhythm bits, and I may multi-track the main riff of T.I. to fatten it up.

Is it better to record each track separatly and match them up in mixing, or to do the first and then go back and try and synch the others up by ear on top of it?

I’ve been trying the second way but it’s extremly tricky at times.

Also, any drummers or bass players out there chipping in?

Idlevice2 wrote:

The second way is definitly better, but you need a drum track down first. The only alternative is to use a metronome, and if you’re using a digital studio, it should have one.

I may just go with the old CD in the headphones. If I had a drum track that would defintely help though..

Title: carlofthevplates

at this stage carlofthevplates I would suggest holding onto any track that you may do until the legalities have been made clear to us all… but if all that legal stuff is cleared and its ok for us too proceed… I could suggest that I can set up ftp accounts on my bands webspace where people can send their finished tracks too… this could kill two birds with one stone as I could then remaster all the tracks so that the eq and volume/compression levels are pretty much globalised… and then after that… who knows?!?! haha we’ll have to see if anything further develops with regards a possible cd release.. however I imagine that the easiest way of people hearing the tracks would would be too set up maybe a peoplesound/iuma/purevolume account where the tracks can be uploaded/downloaded and maybe a nominal fee which could go to a charity could also be employed through the use of one or all three of the aformentioned sites… ?!?! but then maybe I am being a little over ambitious with my ideas and it might just be easier to set up a site somewhere for people to download the tracks for free… maybe the Therapy? lads could host the resulting mp3/wma files on their own site?!?!

Converting to MP3 is trivial — drop me a mail if you want to do it and I’ll talk you through it (this is of course assuming that you don’t already know, which is a big assumption, and apologies in advance etc)
