New Megadeth

#

Started by trigger

anybody heard it? i have only heard two songs (blackmail the universe and die dead enough) they were ok i guess but i wasn’t much impressed. i guess it has to do with mustaine trying to sound like a real singer.
and megadeth are now and officially mustaine’s personal project, he lasted the temptation 20 years but he just couldn’t resist  .
there are also the re-issues out, bought the so far… one today, rather interesting i ‘d say.

I got the album. Can’t say I’m pretty impressed by the whole thing. Not sure about the whole “disband for a couple of years, mess around with hand injury, record album with one set of musicians and tour with another set of musicians, oh and by the way good bye Dave Ellefson”. Wonder what that’s all about.

Apparently the whole hand injury story was to cover the fact that Mustaine was back on the drugs… I’m not sure if he did actually have a hand problem due to over indulgance… from what I’ve read and heard Ellefson had got to the point where he couldn’t put up with it anymore.

It’s bizarre to think that they were the biggest metal band bar Metallica a few years back, a sorry lesson on how to truley fuck up a career!

You’re kidding me… I’m very surprised. I thought Mustaine had done the new leaf, born again, family man, clean living thing… Though maybe that would explain while Ellefson isn’t with him now…

I’ve got the album and got to say it’s crap the first 3 songs blackmail the universe , die dead enough and kick the chair are ok but the rest of it is just haven’t I heard that riff before I think so.Nothing compared to rust in peace and peace sells.

If I recall correctly, this album originally started off as Mustaine’s solo album, then he got together with Poland so they decided it would be the new Megadeth album.

Now, if one was cynical.. one may suggest that a new Megadeth album was a more attractive idea than a Mustaine solo album in terms of sales…

Not that I’m cynical or anything… oh no sir.

*shrug* Cynicism surely rules, with a load of older Megadeth albums remastered, the redone MD.45 album, and dare I say it, some not so “old” Megadeth albums.

I understand the remixing bit (for the older albums) and I think it’s great they are available dirt cheap (6 / 7 quid or so), but Risk, remixed? Come on…

A few months ago I downloaded the “Kick the Chair” MP3..ugh! I just pretend it doesn’t exist. Poor Dave..he so much wants to be like Metallica. Just like them after Megadeth’s biggest album (countdown to extinction) it went quickly downhill, just like Metallica with the Black album. Sure later albums for both groups had some quality songs, but overall each later album got weaker and weaker even though both tried to play harder without going back to their original sounds…

I have to admit though the re-mastered Killing is My Business was great..it’s such a killer CD but the original production was really rough. All of the original vocals kind of slurred together..granted they were on smack at the time.

If anyone gets a chance, try and pick up the bootlegs of the early Metallica tapes with Dave on guitar..really cool hearing James sing Mechanix!

Just on the point of st anger i made the point to a mate of mine the other day that metallica are kinda shit and have been since the black album yet a little known band like therapy keep dishing out good honest to jaysus rawk n rolllll records each a litte different from the last makes you kinda proud of them dont it. :)

Mustaine explains the whole thing in last months METAL HAMMER.

The injury was apparently caused by Mustaine sleeping on it the wrong way for an entire night. Cut off the blood supply and severely damaged some nerve endings.

The new album is also apparently the last MEGADETH album. The songs are mostly from old MEGADETH outakes and throw-away material, and the only reason he made it a MEGADETH album is for contractual reasons. He needed to release another MEGADETH album or he wouldn’t get the copyrights to the last couple of albums.

He also says that when he approached Dave Ellefson to do the new album, he offered him the same deal as before, but Ellefson said he wanted more money and a percentage of the copyrights to the new songs.
So Mustaine told him to go swing for it…!!!

Yeah!

It was for Sabbath’s “Seventh Star” album.
He planned for it to be a solo project with Glen Hughes, but the record company insisted on it being a Sabbath record.

I am a little late replying here but I am just reading some of the comments on NEW Megadeth. There new album is ok but is nowhere near as good as Rust in Peace or Countdown to Extinction.

Its not the 1990 line up but I have tickets for Nottingham rock city on Sat Feb 5th 2005.

Everyone has mixed opinions of Mustaine but I am really looking forward to seeing him, he is a top guitar player.

If anyone else here will be there that would be cool.

Kick the Chair is the best track on the album, and a great track on it’s own. the rest of the album is OK.
