huh, that’s funny. for some strange reason i was reading through the t?-bibliography again yesterday evening, and there the song “Valentines Day 2001” was mentioned (in the 2001-shameless-part). i thought it was strange because i had never ever heard of that song before… and now, well now here it is… cheers allroy!

what was that shameless promo like actually - not just a usual promo, i guess? and where did you find it? and what were the other bonus tracks?

Interesting to hear that. But I wonder if “Valentine’s Day 2001” is different to “Valentine’s Day”, which I have notes as:

Valentine’s Day (instrumental) - recorded during the Shameless session. - “a long free-form noise-rant-jam that was pretty great — I hope it comes out some day” — Jack Endino.

I found it on ebay.
It’s a German pressing by Motor / Universal and it came with no sleeve. The bonus tracks are listed on the cd as non-lp tracks as described in the ebay description.

this was left off shameless for obvious resons I think. It would have been a definite contender for a top slot of my personal shitlist, where body bag girl still dwells.

I had to encode it in such a bad quality to be able to attach it here.

Mail me if you’d like to have it as an mp3 encoded in 192 kB/s.

This is my first post, so guess I should start by saying hello! :)

I interviewed Andy and Michael a year ago and, when asked about unreleased material, here’s what Andy had to say about ‘Valentine’s Day’:

“There’s an interesting song we did in Seattle called ‘Valentine’s Day’. It’s me walking up and down a street in Freemont with a microphone and the band doing a Miles Davis jam. If you heard it you wouldn’t think it’s anything like Therapy? - it sounds like an outtake from some sixties Blaxploitation movie!

Our fans always go “what’s it like? let me hear it! let me hear it”, and we go “you won’t like it”. “Let me hear it! let me hear it!”. “You won’t like it”. “Let me hear it! let me hear it!. “You won’t like it”.
[Andy imitates a tape playing…]
“I don’t like it!”

Sorry guys, I’ve been informed that this track wasn’t meant to be released at all and is only on the promo copy due to a mistake by the German label.

So it shouldn’t be spread with respect to the T? guys.
Sorry again for annoying you, Michael, didn’t mean to do that.

I think it sounds a lot like Tom waits…My humble opinion though.
Theres some brilliant lines in here

“Will rock for food”, “Heart break any takers”

I like it. but…at the same time I dont think it would fit with anything else they do…

Actually no, but Hooch will remove it when she’s got time, just out of sheer politeness.

“For sale - one slightly used CUPID”, I believe is the line.

My copy of the promo is French, not German. Though, that’s not to say it wasn’t released in Deutschland.

I really like the track, but definately wouldn’t put it on an album. And no, I’m not one of those people who hears Andy fart and think it’s a new music revolution! For example, My Voodoo Doll from the same period should never have been recorded, let alone put on the album.

Oops, that should have been “Body Bag Girl” in the post above, since “My Voodoo Doll” was actually from 3 years later.

Though, it is shit as well :-)
