I really like those downloads on the audio page! Gives you an idea of the proces of songwriting.

Especially “Long distance” I must say that I like the raw sound of demos, it has a “live” feeling to it.

I’ll second that, its a top idea.

Plus its totally free - I used to hate it when bands stuck the demos of songs on as b-sides to the single - really lazy (yes that means you Metallica)

Its kind of interesting how the one for Rise Up develops.

What a difference between the original demo of ‘Perish the Thought’ and the final version. Actually they have nothing in common but the riff that Andy plays alone on the CD and which is a slow bass riff on the demo. The practically re-wrote the tune, didn’t they.
I like how the ‘roughened’ the sound of the songs from the demo to the final version. That’s Therapy? ! :)

Perish The Thought (4-Trk Demo): Now that’s the kinda demo that should be put on singles!! Excellent stuff… really has that b-side-feel to it.

Cheerz,

I wish more bands did this!! I mean, how many of us see the word “demo” and think, “Wow! This is going to kick ass!!” It’s not like that, it’s just a really great way to hear something different from the band! It’s amazing to hear where a song began and where it ended up! I’m surprised at how different “Perish The Thought” and “Rise Up” began. They’re almost like different songs. Very nice, indeed. Again, I wish more bands did this!!

whose idea was it actually originally? i read marko’s post, but someone must have spread the thought before that.. the band themselves? don’t really know anymore…

The original version of Perish the THought has a real Mid-80s new wave sound to it. I kind of like it. They should hold on to that and do some new lyrics to it (it different enough from the final product), it has B-Side written all over it.
