I’m sorry but I know hardly nothing about jewellery. You can find something about Kalevala’s at http://www.kalevalakoru.com and I think that they are sold on almost every big department stores and jeweller’s.
While you are on Helsinki be sure that you go see the old island fortess called Suomenlinna http://www.suomenlinna.fi it takes about 15 mins by the ferry from marketsquare which is kauppatori in finnish. It is a cool place :D
Are you going to be how long in Finland? If the timing is right, you should definately see one of the many finnish festivals as they all have unique feeling and a lot of drunken people if it is a rock-festival ;)
You can find info of camping sites at http://www.camping.fi

Great that you got it!
Sodankylä is quite far away from Helsinki (over 900 km!!). Are you going by car or train? If you are going by car we live “just” 65 km’s from Helsinki and you are always welcome to stop for refreshments on a long journey, that is if you are going by road no. 3 to Lapland. There ain’t much to see where we live but there is a nice glass-shop which sells Iittala & Hackman stuff.
Oh and bring anything that kills morquitos with you as in Lapland there’s plenty of them in the summertime…

we go there by car, so we might pass. We don’t have a route planned yet. I also read the stuf about the mosquito’s, but I think I’ll live :).
Is it necessary to book a ferry really early? or is a few weeks before leaving still fine?

I really don’t know how early you have to book the ferries.
I guess the cheapest would be from Estonia, it takes only about 3 hours to Helsinki from Tallinn, Estonian capital but there is long ride thru Baltic-region (or how do you say that are where Poland, Lithuania, etc. are) but I guess that nowadays it is quite safe to drive thru there.
http://www.eckeroline.fi seems to be cheap as its car only 15 to oneway & 15 per person (those are wintertime fees but hopefully the summer fees aren’t much more).
There is also ferries coming from Germany to Hanko & Helsinki but I don’t have any clues about firms who does that.
Then there is many from Sweden to Finland various cities in both countries. The popular ones are http://www.vikingline.fi & http://www.silja.fi
but I have the feeling that they both are expensive.
If you like to play it safe, book it early and you get one problem off your minds… :p

that’s true :)
We will go via Holland and danemark, then take a ferry or that bridge to sweden and in sweden we take a ferry to helsinki. For returning we will pass norway. That’s the routeplanning we did so far :).
We can’t go via estonia because it’s a long drive there, and boyfriend would like to pass by in lego land :)

Sounds like a good routeplan.
Then look thru the sites of the Viking Line & Silja Line. I guess that it would be cheaper to go from Stockholm to Turku which is 150 km’s from Helsinki.
That Legoland sounds really good… I have many years wanted to go there but I have never had “strength” to do it.
