Emm Gryner covers “Nowhere”!

#

Started by Eyesore

Most of you will have no idea who Emm Gryner is, but for the record she is a Canadian singer/songwriter much in the style of Sarah McLachlan and Tori Amos. I have only 3 CDs by here, but all of them are really good especially her CD Girl Versions where she does covers of “Pour Some Sugar On Me” by Def Leppard, “Crazy Train” by Ozzy, “Waiting Room” by Fugazi, and a bunch more all of them just her singing and playing the piano. It’s really cool. Anyway, I just saw this on eBay and figured I’d post it. I guess she’s got a new CD out and it’s another cover album, but this time a cover album of all Irish artists and she covers “Nowhere” by Therapy?

That’s fuck’n sweet! Did you guys know this already? I searched and didn’t see anything on it. Anyway, if anyone can find this, let us know what it sounds like. I’ll try and get the album, but I got my credit card on lockdown right now…

Actually, if you read correctly I haven’t actually heard it yet, but considering that what I do own of hers is pretty damn good I’d expect it to be. Of course, I’m probably a bit more open-minded about music than you are. =)

Don’t think you can smiley your way out of that one, sunshine, them’s fightin’ words. I’m as open-minded as they come- you don’t have to be close-minded to realise that some piss-weak warbling bint with a piano isn’t going to do T? justice. Tori Amos doing “Hurt”? Now that’s a cover- subverts the original, puts a new spin on things, makes it a worthwhile enterprise. My grandmother plays piano and sings- doesn’t mean if she sang some T? it’d automatically be “sweet”. Get some standards.

I really wanna get rid of Real Player too, but can’t I just go back to my previous default player? I think it was Windows Media player. Or is this one you suggest better?

I don’t know how to do stuff like this. Help!

Well, if you actually listened to the song you probably would have noticed that there was no piano in the song, but rather an acoustic guitar. Quite similar, I might add, to the very same style in which Therapy? have done their own songs acoustically.

Still, to claim that this song is crap based on a 30 second clip seems fairly close-minded, wouldn’t you say? =) And by the way, how does Tori Amos’ cover of hurt make it a “worthwhile enterprise” when she “puts a new spin on things” and “subverts the original?” Considering that subvert essentially means to ruin or destroy, that doesn’t make much sense! =) Of course, being a huge Tori Amos fan I’m not quite sure that I recall her covering “Hurt” anyway. I guess I could be wrong, but I don’t recall there being any cover of “Hurt” on any of her full length albums nor any of her singles, most of which I have.

Anyway, for those who are open-minded :D, check out this Emm Gryner cover. I just picked up the CD yesterday in Boston and it’s excellent!

Well, I meant it in the context of reversing the original meaning, perhaps “invert” would’ve been more appropriate.

She’s done it live plenty of times.

Anyway, agree to disagree, eh?

Oh wait, sorry- :D

Title: Emm Gryner covers “Nowhere” (merged)

Hey Kids,

Has anyone checked out Emm Gryner’s cover of “Nowhere”??? It’s off her new record of Irish cover songs, “Songs of Love and Death” and is by far my favorite track. She also covers thin lizzy, ash, horslips, etc.

I definitely recommend you check the record out at http://www.myspace.com/emmgryner or http://www.emmgryner.com

Plus, she’s gonna tour Ireland this coming fall!!!
