I bought the first album and never really got into them, I did see the singer once when he played in Diamond head.

Dunno, just found the German dates.

saw em in leeds at cockpit bout a year ago and they still had keith on drums but a new guitar player instead of ben harding, mcormack was a bit nasty to the new guy kept calling him a cunt (apparently he got some notes wrong or something)

how is he a pansy???

ah just wondered, cant remember owt bout him, apart from he had dark hair and a guitar slung round his shoulders,

pure is total class, the first and the best (in my opinion)
its one of those instantly likeable albums though which gets boring after a few listens hate those things, yet i love them at the same time

I dunno, I really tried to like it and there is some good stuff on there. I like ‘Union of Souls’, ‘Repeat To Fade’ and ‘Lullaby’ and I do like parts of tracks, like the verse riff to ‘Made in Indonesia’ and the bass-line to ‘The World Is Yours’.

However, there are just too many weak tracks. ‘The World Is Yours’ just plods along at the same tempo all the way through. ‘Ceasefire’ is just not… good. It bores me to tears. ‘F.C.K.U.’ should have been a b-side, and that’s being generous. ‘Land of Debris’ is just pants. The vocal effect Pete uses at the end of the song makes me laugh hysterically. ‘Counterfeit Jesus’ starts off OK, but again gets boring really quickly and the cheerleading bit of C-O-C-A-I-N-E makes me laugh too. ‘Desensitize’ sounds like a bad version of Ash. And Ash themselves are bad enough.

All in all… not worth the cash, and considering they had about 5 years to write the damn thing, I’d expect a LOT more. It’d be fine if they’d released this quickly after a hectic tour/album schedule, but they haven’t. Surely they were writing songs during the split that didn’t make it onto GTA/Elevation releases? Where the fuck did that all go?

Yeah, he looks cool. In fact, I think he’s spent too much time working on his image lately instead of the music. How can you stand there singing all these self-righteous songs in hideously expensive designerwear?

Oh well, I’ve met and interviewed Pete and Chris and they were both really cool, so I guess I can’t diss them too badly.

Fun fact: I live in Pete’s neighbourhood.

I’ve never seen Pete live with sunglasses on… he did wear a suit (or mibbe just a blazer) the 2nd time I saw them live. Did you happen to catch Pete and Chris on Bruce Dickinson’s radio show on BBC6 last year? Bruce made Pete look like a complete twat. Pete was going on about how you shouldn’t buy your coffee at the big chains or buy clothes from the Gap and stuff like that and Bruce asked “well, where do you buy your clothes? Do you drink at Starbucks?” and Pete was like “errrrm…”. I don’t understand how Pete can afford new clothes all the time considering his band’s not famous anymore. I never see him wearing the same outfit twice. And apparently they have a tourbus and not a van, which surprises me. I think his gf is fairly well off.

They got together because their manager wanted to get some cash out of a few reunion shows. Pete’s Elevation band was in development hell (they recorded a full album that’s just sitting there because Sony don’t want to release it), GTA wasn’t really going anywhere and I guess they realised that 3CR was the best way of doing music full-time for them.

I think “Beautiful Day” was a bit of a turning point.. I think Pete’s ego grew a bit and he thought “well hang on, I can write a good song without all that distortion and it’ll sell”. I don’t really think the song is more than average, but whatever. ‘Revolt’ has some cracking tunes on it though, like “Age of Madness”. One of my favourite 3CR tracks for sure.

I just wish Pete would stop smoking so much weed.. the new songs lack the rage that ‘Pure’ brimmed with and his voice just sounds so shot most of the time. I bought the live DVD and he sounds awful.

They havent taken 5 years though, as they have all been in different bands so any material from the new album would’ve been fairly recent i would think.

Although it is safe to say the new album isnt the best, and I cant say I like the new political direction either (although I dont like any band being very political) I do think it’s more consistent and perhaps a bit better than Revolt, which had too many bad songs on it.

Actually got something through from their mailing list yesterday, and it looks like they are releasing a two cd set from their first two albums!! A best of and some b-sides. Bit bloody pathetic if you ask me after just two albums.

Hello… Pete here, hope you’re good? Well it was about time for another update
anyway, so…

As I explained briefly in my last mail out, there will be a compilation album
put out through a division of the Sanctuary Record Group in the next couple of
months. What has happened is that Sanctuary have licensed the Creation Records
back catalogue, this includes other artists who signed to the label, it will not
be exclusive to us in any way.

This album would have come out… with or without our approval, or indeed -
A.N.Y money for myself, Chris, Keith, Paul… or Ben, so you may ask why I
became involved?

It was put to me that I could have a say in the artwork, tracklisting and sleeve
notes, initially I was dubious about the idea, but after a little thought, I got
to thinking that seeing as though this is a Creation ‘anthology’ and not a ‘best
of’ (it can’t be a ‘best of’ as it has no post 1999 tracks) then it’d be a good
way of rounding off a chapter of our lives, a time when it felt like we were
shot up to the moon. Also, back in the day, I used to read a few requests for
b-side compilations off the messageboard. Financial restraints stopped me from
getting the promo videos on to the disc as well, I guess you can’t have it
all…

(I also have a defect in my genes that makes me happy to work solidly on a
project for free… )

I have written an essay style brief band history, also, a few notes on the
singles themselves, as we speak, I am in the process of getting some shots of
the band for a collage in the artwork, and it’s coming together quite nicely…

As I’ve mentioned earlier, no-one here is making anything out of this and more
importantly, if you are against this kind of release then remember one thing:

No-one’s holding a gun to your head.

I’m not sure any business would employ me as a salesman, but that’s because I’m
not, and have never been a f**king salesman. My involvement stems purely from
the fact that I’m proud of our work. So there it is:

On another note altogether… I am currently in the process of setting up a solo
acoustic show in London. Don’t look at listings just yet, as it isn’t confirmed
at the moment, but I am working on a night of slightly mellower 3cr material,
interjected with a few extremely choice cover versions. As soon as I have a date
set, I will stick it on the mailing list straight away. Hopefully it’ll be
sooner rather than later, the proceeds of this gig will go to the Tsunami relief
fund. I have only attempted one solo acoustic thing before now, when I played as
part of a Nick Drake tribute gig at the Barbican in Sept 2000, this time, I will
possibly have one or two friends joining me for what should be a cool night.

I would have a prefered a second CD of B-sides myself but for someone who doesn’t have the albums(i don’t know if this true but i read both Pure and Revolt have now been deleted) this anthology is a good introduction to 3 Colours Red and at £11.99 its good value.I’ll just be getting it for the live,BBC session tracks and B-sides(i have all the B-sides but mostly just as MP3’s)Like Pete said in his mail out this compilation was going to come out anyway regardless of any input from the band.Already this week Sanctuary have released a 2 CD Swervedriver compilation.

yeah, same here really. i loved the first two albums but then after they split up the first time i never really got back into them. i only ever saw them live once suppporting, ahem, bush.
