Re: Alice In Chains in Other Bands & Artists
AIC were a superb band - one of my favourites. If you listen to Jerry Cantrells album Degradation Trip, however, it’s obvious who the talent in the band was. Layne was a superb frontman but Jerry was and still is an amazing musician. His solo albums are awesome!

Re: T? Gigs In Scotland in Therapy? Live
The last gig at the Garage lacked something. I’m not sure what but I left feeling a bit empty :-( I think maybe it was the lack of old songs and the painfully short set!
Disappoined it’s not in Edinburgh though - would make a change for you Glaswegians to have to bus it to a gig :-)

Title: Not happy!
After posting to say I enjoyed the Liquid Rooms - it’s moved! Quite annoying as I prefer it as a venue to the Garage! All the Liquid Room gigs have been superb. I dunno -the Garage just lacks something for me!

Always had a good night when they’ve played the Liquid Rooms in Edinburgh!

Title: Ignore my previous comment on this album…
…as it was based on a first listen. I’m now slowly coming to the conclusion that this a superb album. Once you get past the new drum sound, the lack of solo’s and the fact that it sounds nothing like Old Metallica it starts to sound better and better.
If this was a new album by a new band I’d be blown away. Once I managed to put aside certain feelings I think I am :)
It’s been quite a while since I had a U-Turn like this over an album I hated on first listen. Chris Cornell - Euphoria Morning was the last.

Re: Eyes Adrift in Other Bands & Artists
I bought this the day it was released and it’s fantastic! Nirvana it ain’t - more akin to the Meat Puppets. It’s very laid back but superb. I can’t recommend it enough! The track Alaska isn’t even the best on the album. The opener Sleight of Hand has a fantastic horn section and sets the tone for a great CD.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I got St Anger out of curiosity more than anything else. I used to love Metallica and then they broke! St Anger is nothing special - to be honest it’s disappointing. The songs are too long, lack any structure, James’s vocals are pretty poor and the drums sound like someone thumping a cake tin.
Reassuring to see that the old Metallica spin machine had us believing their lies again ;) This sounds nothing like their old stuff, it’s Load and Re-Load all over again with the volume turned up.
Biggest disappointment of the year? Probably not as by now we should have realised that Metallica are a spent force. Yes they’ll shift millions and sell out stadiums but on reputation alone as musically they just don’t cut it any more :(

HMV in Edinburgh had High Anxiety in their recommended stand on the week of release.

Teenage girls? Record executives? Kerrang? MTV? Blokes with no dick? People who like their music spoon fed? The list is endless mate :)
Fuck them! They’re not worth stressing over! Pride yourself in the fact that you haven’t been sucked in :)

Therapy? Label Mates? in Other Bands & Artists
Title: Therapy? Label Mates?
Just wondering if anyone else was a fan of the other bands on Spitfire?
Dog Fashion Disco - now there’s another band who should have huge success. Anyone else a fan? They are incredible. Really hard to describe but fans of Mr Bungle, System etc. should check them out. Mp3’s on their site are a good start. Their new album is awesome - totally insane, fucked up and sick as hell. Fantastic!
Liked them for a while now (long before T? signed to the label).
I take no responsibility for what they might do to your head :)
Check them out!

SD is not bad but T? have done better. In fairness though, even an average T? album is better than half the shite out there right now :)

…get the success they deserve for High Anxiety then I’ll be pissed off!
Have you heard the shite that gets in the charts these days? (Evanescence, Linkin Park, Manson)
HA is fucking amazing! I’m drunk right now and it still sounds amazing!
I’ve not liked all their albums but HA is superb!
Credit where credits due!
Andy, Michael, Martin, Neil - please keep it going ‘cause you’re making a lot of people happy (despite the fact we have no stories) :)
Cheers!

Re: i think my music tastes are changing… in General Therapy? Topics
I see your point but to be honest I meant ‘back’ in the same way that any band releasing a new album are ‘back’.
The ‘comeback’ attitude in the press does piss me off though. Fans are well aware that they never went away but I know loads of people who thought the band were no more. I suppose the poor promotion of the last few albums can only have helped with the idea that T? had vanished.
Even the Rock Sound review on this site says ‘Certainly comeback of the year’.
If it’s frustrating for us fans it must really piss of the band :(

Re: i think my music tastes are changing… in General Therapy? Topics
My favourite band at the minute (apart from T?) is Opeth. Possibly the best metal band - ever! Despite being a huge fan of the heavy stuff, HA is one of the best albums I’ve heard in years.
I’m not a T? fan to the point I like everything they do. In fact I’d go as far as to say (IMO) they have at least 2 albums which are pretty average and border on dull!
——stops to put on flame proof suit——
HA however really hits the mark and is a triumphant two fingers to all the doubters!
Give HA a chance. Stick it on repeat and I’m sure you’ll begin to appreciate it for the balls out rock that it is. T? are back - and in style :)

Worst Therapy reviews? in General Therapy? Topics
Title: Worst Therapy reviews?
Found this review in a local paper last week and was wondering who else had found bad reviews of t?
From MetroLife section in Metro (Tues May 13th 2003).
“After all this time, the most interesting thing about Irish riff-mongers Therapy? Is still that the question mark following their name is the result of some clumsy Letraset application on an early demo tape. Since then, the band have made clumsiness something of a (misspelt) calling card, buffeting from one gauche metal record to another with all the finesse of a fat man in a dodgem. Neither clever enough to be taken seriously, nor daft enough to be loved, Therapy? Have tried on many hats and looked rubbish in all of them.
Their main problem is that theyve always strived to be something everything theyre not. First, they cast themselves as disaffected industrial metallurgists; wholly unconvincing on account of singing goatee Andy Cairns being about as disturbing as a Heartbeat Christmas special. Plus the lyrics were, and remain, crap.
Then, with the mainstream-tickling Troublegum album, they broke out the tunes and growled a hearty How about ye? to daytime radio, which was actually worse than before in that it added a sense of opportunistic desperation to the mix. Then came the cellos, in an attempt to be seen as sonorous artistes, although things only began going seriously awry when Cairns started appearing naked in videos, supplying irrefutable proof that Therapy? were the unacceptable arse of British rock.
Although their Troublegum evidently burst long ago, they remain afloat thanks to an alarmingly faithful fan base and will probably be preaching to the converted for years to come. But question: Therapy? Answer: No Thanks.”

Re: Set Lengths in Therapy? Live
Title: Glasgow gig length
I must admit I thought the gig length was spot on. Of course there were songs that I’d love to have heard but I went home wanting more which is always a good thing after a gig. I remember seeing Megadeth play for over 2.5 hrs (Metallica as well) and too be honest I was getting really fed up towards the end. I much prefer shorter gigs which hit the mark!
I agree with the point about support bands. One would be enough. By the time 3 Stages of Pain had finished I’d forgotten which stage of pain I was going through. They were utter shite!
Last tour we got Defenestration! How the hell a band that sucked that badly got a T? support slot is beyond me? The last decent support T? had were the Yo-Yo’s which is a good while back now (Oh! and Nerve!).
Overall though the Garage rocked and despite a short set was a brilliant night. Roll on the next leg.

Re: Galsgow for the fat bastards… in Therapy? Live
Title: Glasgow Turnout
Poor turnout my arse mate! What gig were you at?
What a fantastic gig though! The new material is superb live!
A shame Therapy? stuck to their habit of taking shit UK bands on the road with them. 3 Stages of Pain were awful - surely the arse of British rock?. What the joke was with the sheeps head is beyond me! Miss Black America were much better and should have been main support.
A superb night! Roll on the next UK tour before the year is out!
