hoping it really did help and that wasn’t just sarcasm. i suspect i probably got the ball rolling, though i didn’t tell her directly.

It’s a small, small world…
I’m an ex-pat from the Clutch message board.

Re: How many people do you got into Therapy? in General Therapy? Topics
i had a couple friends from school who were fans already. i’ve only managed to convince a few people of their greatness — surprisingly, a lot of the folks i’ve played them for just don’t like ‘em. ehh, their loss. i was pretty thrilled to discover my new girlfriend has been a fan even longer than me!

i’m finding hilarity in someone so seemingly homophobic choosing a name derived from Spartacus…

Re: My opinion… in General Therapy? Topics
this is where i’m torn on the Shameless/HA thing. i think there was a greater disparity between the good songs and the clunkers on Shameless, while HA is more consistent throughout: none of the good tracks reach the same heights as the good ones from Shameless, but the low points aren’t as low, either.
the songs on Shameless that are good are very, very good. but the bad ones are almost unlistenable…

Re: My opinion… in General Therapy? Topics
i tend to agree with mooney, Shameless and HA are pretty similar — although i do think HA is better front-to-back. with more listens, i found myself getting bored with about half of Shameless. who knows, HA is still pretty fresh to me, the same thing might happen with it. i’d also like to see another “curveball” with the next album. one of T?’s greatest strengths, to me, has been their ability to change up their sound while always making great music. another album in the Shameless/HA vein and i’d be close to advocating retirement…
Suicide Pact took me a loooooooong time to really appreciate. couldn’t stand it at first, but i persevered and over time each song grew on me. there’s a lot more going on there than appears at first, and it’s all pretty excellent.
edit — i’m an idiot.

Re: the perfect band in Chit-Chat
Let’s go with:
Jim Martin (ex-FNM) & Kim Thayil (ex-Soundgarden) on guitars
J.P. Gaster (Clutch) on drums
Christian Tanna (I Mother Earth) on other percussion
Eric Axelson (Dismemberment Plan) on bass
Isaac Brock (Modest Mouse) & Chan Marshall (Cat Power) on vocals

one of the things i like seeing here is the vast difference in the songs people really like by this band. everyone likes ‘em for something different, it seems.
as for those two, Skyward is a weak track IMO, and i picked Dancin’ with Manson because it was somehow less perfect than the others. those two albums (Babyteeth/Pleasure Death) were the absolute hardest to choose “clunkers” from.

Shameless _(2001)
1. Stalk & Slash
2. Alrite
So Much For The Ten Year Plan _(2000)
1. Six Mile Water
2. Die Laughing
Suicide Pact-You First _(1999)
1. God Kicks
2. He’s Not That Kind Of Girl
Semi-Detached _(1998)
1. Tightrope Walker

2. Bowels of Love
Troublegum _(1994)
1. Lunacy Booth
2. Stop It You’re Killing Me
Nurse _(1992)
1. Deep Sleep
2. Hypermania — this album loses so much steam in the 2nd half
Pleasure Death _(1992)
1. Potato Junkie
2. DLC — this was probably the most painful album to choose songs from. every song on this one is just stellar, but these two are maybe the least “intense.”
Babyteeth _(1991)
1. Skyward
2. Dancin’ With Manson
Wildcard
1. the SP-YF bonus track.

It works, but it makes the album a bit longer than it needs to be. By the time I get to Tramline through 60 Watt Bulb, I’m already a little frazzled.
Suing God is one of those songs that’s really too good to be a b-side. So, in that sense, I’m glad I have the Japanese import.
i agree with you there, i usually end up skipping “Tramline” and “The Boy’s Asleep” and just going straight to Suing God.

Re: Samples in T? songs? in General Therapy? Topics
it was spoken by Miss Jones’ guide to the “afterlife,” explaining his (and her) inconsequential nature.
personally i don’t think it sounds like Shatner at all, and the stop-start aspect sounds like a result of the sample being clipped a bit.

hmm. i’m quite sure it was the same sample. and i don’t think someone taped Star Trek over the middle of the movie. maybe i’ll have a word with the fellas at suicidepact.

i thought the controls on RR3D were horrible. it wasn’t fun enough to keep me playing long enough to get a feel for ‘em. blah.
plus, no T? on the soundtrack.

it’s on the japanese import (along with “60 Watt Bulb”). comes right after “The Boy’s Asleep.” works fairly well in that position, i think, and i really like “Church of Noise” as the opener…

Re: Therapy? in the USA your thoughts.. in General Therapy? Topics
T? on Conan is a fantastic idea.
T? at Ozzfest or the like is a horrible idea — because i wouldn’t get to see them. no way i’m paying that much money to get into a festival when i only want to see one band (i’m sorry, but the typical Ozzfest/other festival lineup can lick the sloppy side of my fuck stick).
i just play ‘em for everyone i know. thinking globally, acting locally, or some such shit.

Re: Hello Shelbyville! You ROCK!!! in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
ahh, Road Rash! every time i turned that game on i’d purposefully set the track to a T? song. why haven’t they been able to make a good Road Rash game since that one?
Afghan Whigs, eh? heard the Dulli solo project, Twilight Singers? good stuff…

Re: Greetings from PA in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
i’d have to go with Semi-Detached as my favorite. to me, it was the best blend of noisiness and hooks.
i’m enjoying Hight Anxiety so far, although i haven’t listened too much yet because i got it at the same time as the new I Mother Earth, which has been occupying my ears more. i can say for sure it’s not my favorite, though. there’s something missing…

Greetings from PA in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Title: Greetings from PA
hello all, been a T? fanatic for nigh on 10 years now. not too many of us in the States, unfortunately. got a friend in the UK though who gets me the hookup on new stuff before it hits our shores. makes me happy :D
only managed to catch one show, @ the Khyber in Philadelphia in 2001. wish they could make it over here more often.
also wish i could’ve made it over there to see ‘em when they played with Clutch (my other favorite band) a few years back.

Re: Do Therapy? dislike “Semi-Detached”? in General Therapy? Topics
Semi-Detached is my favorite. the thing that’s been getting to me about Shameless and now High Anxiety is that the “darkness” seems to be gone. even an album like Semi-Detached, which was laden with hooks, still had a dark feel, a measure of venom, that’s missing these days.
