And Michael has apparently been experimenting with his laptop or samples or something…

Re: The Fall in Other Bands & Artists

The Fall are just brilliant, and the only band from the first wave of UK punk to have kept the same make-and-do attitude, kept going and moving forward and changing, not looking back, which is what punk was meant to be all about. Unfortunately they are also like a disease and can take over your listening habits completely unless you fight them off a bit from time to time… Fave albums at the moment would be country on the click, bend sinister, and i’m really enjoying Slates at the moment… Pretty daunting when you first get into them as their back catalogue is massive, I’ve got about half the studio albums now and every one has gems on it. They took me a while listening to them to really get into them, but once you’ve cracked it they are a very rewarding band to follow.

Uhh I mean ‘live’ version, not liver…

Re: Nick Cave in Other Bands & Artists

Anyone see the Babe Im on Fire video? Very very funny. I love the way the band has a real tongue in cheek sense of humour despite wha the music might suggest! Stagger Lee video’s another amusing one…
Dunno why everyone’s advising Murder Ballads, true I’ve only listened to it twice but it didnt really strike me as being particularly interesting, maybe someone could explain what I missed? I did like the PJ Harvey song and Curse of Millhaven is really funny too… the liver version on God is in The House DVD is cool.

Re: Nick Cave in Other Bands & Artists

The Best Of is a good way in. Let Love In is good, kind of shows off all his styles. I don’t like Murder Ballads, it’s mainly a bit unfocussed and shallow… though Stagger Lee is an ace song, brilliant when I saw him sing it live last year (smug!). No More Shall We Part and Abbatoir/Lyre are fantastic but softer in places, and if you just want your head caved in (no pun) then go for the early stuff. So in short… probably start from the Best of and see what you like!

Re: therapy? headline Download Festival! in Therapy? Live

If that’s true it’s great news for the band - I’m well chuffed for them!

Re: Let’s See a B-Sides and Rarities Comp. in General Therapy? Topics

Unreleased bits and bobs from all eras of the band that is… live stuff representing all the stages of the band would be nice too, mind…

Re: Let’s See a B-Sides and Rarities Comp. in General Therapy? Topics

Not too bothered about 2 best ofs, I mean most of us have all that stuff anyway, its the rarities and the unreleased bits and bobs I’d kill for!

Re: What song or moment first got you into therapy? in General Therapy? Topics

Whatever was he first song at that Brixton gig MTV used to play. The whole show took me aback. Then my mate gave me Die Laughing single for Christmas (cheers Rory), after that I was hooked. Took me a few months to get near a decent record shop (seriously - and no internet in them days) and bought Troublegum and my mum bought me Nurse (cheers mum!)on tape, couple of months later found Babyteeth and Pleasure death. Ahh those early days of wonder and discovery…

Re: Let’s See a B-Sides and Rarities Comp. in General Therapy? Topics

Funny, I’ve been thinking about this this week before I read the FAQ thing. It seems like every band with a bit of success manages to release a rarities/bsides thing. Obviously most of us would rather have rarities cos we have lots of the bsides already… It would be so cool to hear unreleased ideas they’ve had over the years, alternative versions, well just whatever really, I think we’d all salivate over anything they released… I’m sure it would get sales at least as much as scopophobia surely (not that I know anything about record sales). But what are the chances of it actually happening? Like Andy says, they’re at the mercy of the record labels…

Re: Six mile water, sister, wall of mouths?? in General Therapy? Topics

Well, for starters, its

I used to have somewhere.

And Andy frequently refers to himself and other people as mongrols, see church of noise for example.

Re: The Sweeney lyrics? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Uh

something something
crawling up between your legs
from that moment on you’re in control,
something something
something something
from that moment on you just let go

I’m waiting in desperation
I wait for your damnation
Just gimme some salvation today

then theres a bit aout something me with your something eyes…

ok this isnt useful at all is it?
Cool song though.

Re: Songs T? should play live… in General Therapy? Topics

I want to hear some Nurs songs live other than teethgrinder… never even seen them do Nausea… Neck Freak would be brilliant, well maybe. Theyve done most of the babyteeth stuff recently (not that I’ve seen them play them all, sob) so anything from Pleasure Death and Nurse would float my proverbial boat.

Re: List your 5 favorite songs or compositions… in General Therapy? Topics

You’re asking alot with this topic…, uh,

Gone
Punishment Kiss
Loser Cop
Skyward (actually possibly prefer the re-recorded one, though I’ve only heard it through a dodgy speaker system so maybe that helped?)
Teethgrinder

So my top 5 (today) are all pre-1993, but like everyone else I’d change my mind tomorrow…

Oh and I saw them play Hellbelly in Glasgow Garage, it was either the Shameless tour or the Scopophobia tour :D

Re: Pet Hate in General Therapy? Topics

I’m going to defend Deep Sleep if no one else is, suppose when I first heard Nurse I’d not listened to much music (or decent music) at all, and Nurse sounded so weird to me at that time it kind of freaked me out! The production on Nurse is pretty weird as we all know but I think it works, its a sort of creepy atmosphere, odd lyrics, really like the sound of Andy’s voice on it… hey ho. Not that its my fave on Nurse but I still like it.

As for ones I don’t like…

Yep, Body bag girl. But I HAVE to mention

NICE GUYS. If anyone can come up with a defence of that song I’ll be impressed (other than the fact that the band were losing it…). Never liked it, maybe Our Love Must Die overshadowed it.

Thought Last Blast was pretty weak too actually, your thoughts?

Re: Aberdeen gig! in Therapy? Live

Last time in Aberdeen everything went wrong and I think a lot of folk went home feeling a bit pissed off (not that it was the bands fault)… what Im hoping is the band don’t try to play a crowd-pleasing show this time cos I really want to hear Loser Cop and Innocent X and Epilepsy and new ones anything else they come up with! And I cant make it to the Glasgow show… Ach, basically I just hope they don’t play it too safe! Im sure my fears will prove unfounded!

Re: Shameless - whats wrong with it?!? in General Therapy? Topics

Bit of a sad plea here, whats the easiest way to get the import shameless with the two bonus tracks? Tried ebay, got outbid, is there a reliable site I can buy them from (I live in Scotland)? Thanks folks!

Re: New The Cure in Other Bands & Artists

Cure adverts:

Read an interview with robert smith recently, he said hed been screwed over by someone at fiction records and to get control back over the cure material before he moved to another label, he had to give the record company some concessions ie using some songs for adverts. He sounded pretty pissed off about it too, and that it was something they had never done before and never wanted to.

Babyteeth songs live in Therapy? Live

Title: Babyteeth songs live

Was just reading the T? at wolvo thread. I’m sorry, you said they played Meat Abstract, right? You lucky swines! When I saw them last year I was gutted cos they had to cut the encore short due to time, so they didn’t play Skyward which was on the setlist. But they did play Manson and Punishment kiss, which reduced me to a screaming girly… Basically I’m just really impressed they’re playing so much stuff from Babyteeth cos after the first couple times I saw them I never thought they would go back there (they didn’t play anything b4 troublegum opther that Teethgrinder and Opal Mantra)… Since Andy wrote that stuff about the Babyteeth tracks on the website it seems to have reignited his passion for them… which leads me to wonder what the next album will sound like! Whatever, I hope they open with Loser Cop or something next time I see them!

Whatever happened to George Smyth?

Re: Diane in General Therapy? Topics

I read at some point that one of Andy’s friends had been attacked which made him want to cover the song… dunno if that’s true or not. The single royalties went to rape charities I think too.

Re: 30 Seconds in General Therapy? Topics

30 sec has some of the lyrics from Human Mechanism repeated in it doesnt it? ‘I can screw my head back on’ etc. Always thought that was interesting for some reason. I like the whole album but have to defend Epilepsy, it seems to get slagged off a bit, its not my fave but I do think its in the classic T? killer opening track tradition, its a pretty weird song, hard to pin down really… also love the bit where Fyfe’s drums come back in, really manic drum fill… rocking!

Re: Oh Joy in Other Bands & Artists

Watched 24hourpartypeople for 1st time the other day, got me listening to joy division again, had been meaning to listen to She’s Lost Control again since T? heve been playing it. Joy Div were a great band, I only have Substance and Closer but I find the whole ethos really appealing, all the song titles like Incubation and Digital and stuff and the artwork is great too. Keep meaning to get another album! Never really thought in great detail about their influence on T? but can see what u mean about unbeliever. New Order on the other hand never really appealed to me, are they worth trying?
