Re: Metallica & Lou Reed in Other Bands & Artists

I’m going to be honest here.

I’m a fan of Metallica’s 80’s/early90’s output and enjoyed Lou Reed’s work with the Velvet Underground. Whilst this collabaration is questionabale, having now heard it this needs a few listens to really get into but if anything its an aquired taste. This is more aimed at Lou Reed fans rather than ‘Tallica devotees.

By the way, there’s one track that wouldn’t be out of place on a T? album.

Re: Levellers - Brixton Academy 19 March 2011 in Other Bands & Artists

Wish they came to Wales and play the whole thing live. Its a great album and it still stands up today.

Re: RIP Gary Moore… in Other Bands & Artists

My father told me earlier.

Another fine player no longer with us, now jamming with Phil and Rory.

RIP

Re: 2010 end of year round up in Other Bands & Artists

I had totally forgotten about Arcade Fire’s album, which is great.

For whose who hasn’t Mongrels, here’s a sample

Re: 2010 end of year round up in Other Bands & Artists

I’m looking forward to 127 Hours. As much as I enjoyed Slumdog Millionaire (Danny Boyles previous film), it appealed more to the mainstream whilst his latest comes across more cult like…and I don’t mean that in the Trainspotting sense either.

Re: 2010 end of year round up in Other Bands & Artists

I saw Mr Nice and The Social Network at the pix, and though they are both well made, they’re the kind of movies that you wait to come out on DVD but then wait till they’re on 2 for a tenner deal at HMV.

One film I curious about seeing is Let me In as I’m a big fan of the original.

Re: 2010 end of year round up in Other Bands & Artists

The only albums that I’ve bought that came out this year was Maiden and T? and the rest is old stuff that I had been meaning to get for years.

Only one gig this, Gallows in Cardiff but what a band.

TV wise, I loved BBC 3’s Mongrels but no one else seems to be bothered about it. This is England 86 is there too.

Read quite a bit too this year but thats another long list.

Re: BLACK SABBATH ON TV in Other Bands & Artists

It sounds like a very old programme. I’ve been listening to it for the last hour and its very crackly, no doubt when Radio 1 was still playing seven inches.

Re: Saxon in Other Bands & Artists

I was pretty close to buying Wheels of Steel today. Didn’t get it but will do eventually.

Its hard to think now that Maiden and Saxon were pretty close rivels back in the day, where one of them would be the biggest Heavy Metal in the world.

And we know who won there.

Here’s a thought - if Venom didn’t mess around and ended up being the idiots that made bad records after Black Metal, would they be as big as Metallica?
Also, if Def Leppard continued to make albums like On Through The Night, with the sound that they lost a few years later, would they be as big as they were in the late 80’s?

Pro-Pain - Foul Taste of Freedom

God, I’ve got that on Vinyl. I’ve not heard that album for years but its a cracker, a lost gem.

Currently got Biohazard’s Urban Disicipline on at the mo. Before that it was Pennywise’s self titled release.

I feel like playing 90’s metal/punk today \M/

Re: new MAIDEN song - free download! in Other Bands & Artists

I loved Dance of Death and Brave New World. A Matter of Life and Death had their moments, but, new track aside, lets hope the new stuff doesn’t go back to the early 90’s where they just lost the plot and wanted to be AC/DC.

Re: new MAIDEN song - free download! in Other Bands & Artists

The art work is awful…its not Eddie for a start.

But the track is pretty good.

Re: Favourite UK Bands in Other Bands & Artists

Some classic bands mentioned here. Glad to see Sabbat mentioned; i missed out on them in my teenage years but glad I bought into them later. Carcass, well, whats to say what hasn’t been said already. Bolt Thrower, under-rated, nuff said. Can’t think of anyone else right now, but Xentrix are on my mind as I write this. Okay, they might’ve been a little brother version of Metallica, but when I first heard them in 1989, they were class, and a cover of Ghostbusters to boot.

Gawd I feel old thinking about it.

Re: IRON MAIDEN + HEAVEN AND HELL Dublin O2 - 30th July in Other Bands & Artists

That is a sound line up there.

Though I can’t help wondering, as Maiden’s new offering is titled The Final Frontier, this meaning it could well be their final studio album…????

Re: Vol 4 by Sabbath in Other Bands & Artists

I’ve got an old pressing of the album if rather odd.

Its a NEMS sleeve but a Vertigo label pressing and photos of Ozzy and Bill are missing. Well, I did buy it second hand.

London Calling by the Clash - surprised no one’s mentioned that

Re: Ever walked out of a gig? in Other Bands & Artists

The only time I walked out of a gig was when Motorhead was headlining a festival in Swansea. The bands were great but poor ticket sales showed it wasn’t going to be the best gig I had been too. About five songs into their set, Lemmy talked for ages between songs, some stupid sod decided to throw a bottle of piss at the stage, I turned to my mates and decided to leave and see the band some other time.

Re: Metal gods Iron Maiden 2010 in Other Bands & Artists

Seen them twice myself and they do put on a show but would love to see them in Cardiff again as i’m not keen on festivals myself. In saying that, saying its only their UK gig might be a selling point, so who knows

Re: Best albums of the 90’s in Other Bands & Artists

The Judgement Night Soundtrack, that was a classic.

Has to be said, the album did better than the film

Re: Best albums of the 90’s in Other Bands & Artists

Here’s a few

Black Sunday by Cypress Hill
Mean Time - Helmet
River Runs Red - Life of Agony
Urban Disicipline - Biohazard
Static - Senser

there’s just five and I could add loads more but the ones I’ve chosen were wildly praised on release and somewhat forgotten since, much like T? stuff

Re: 2009 End of year Best of list in Other Bands & Artists

I buy back catalouge stuff than I do with newer stuff, though Crooked Timber is THE best album that came out this year, followed by Fleet Foxes (or did that come out last year?)

They were around for a while before they got dropped casue they weren’t selling the amout that Oasis were; around that time, if I remember rightly.

Re: The Specials Tribute ! in Other Bands & Artists

Loved Fun Boy Three’s Tunnel of Love, but doesn’t hold a light to Ghost Town or Gangsters.

And if I remember rightly, Ghost Town is banned is certain States…hmmmm

Re: Beatles Reissues in Other Bands & Artists

I’ll buy them but I’m going to wait for the prices to come down. They’ll be selling for stupid amounts, and it’ll be the 66-70 era albums I’ll be buying
