If you had the money you should definately buy “Heart and Soul” 4 disc boxed set. It has everything and slightly more :p

There’s some classic stuff on Heart and Soul, including the two albums (Closer, at times, has me to the brink of tears. Believe me)lives tracks (including a live set which was breath taking), and a couple of remixes.

However, there’s a few unissued tracks still in the vaults that we’ve yet to hear. That’s my only gripe with the otherwise faultless set.

Also, try reading Touching From A Distance by Ian’s widow Deborah. Talk about thought provoking. Whilst you’re at it, check out 24 Hour Party People.

The first two albums are so brilliant, they nearly make me forgive them for turning into a crappy AOR band.

Well said. WGA was (well, still is) a top album.

What, no ‘Its The End Of The World As We Know It’?

I AM NOT HAPPY WITH THAT. SORRY!

Re: Your Fave unknown band? in Other Bands & Artists

I’d have to add Black Train Jack. They were a New York band that were around when Life of Agony and Biohazard were starting to break through.

Though BTJ were not like those bands. I read the review for their first album, No Reward, in Kerrang!in August 1993 and basically said ‘if you like Therapy? or 70’s bands like the Skids and Sham 69, you’ll like this’ and I bought the album with some money I had from doing a pointless YTS thing…and I loved it. They toured with Sick of It All in September 1993.

They released their second album, You’re Not Alone, in the spring of 1994, just as the Offspring and Green Day were starting to break big, and label mates Dog Eat Dog (they were on the Roadrunner label)released the No Fronts album. However, they split in early 1995 and to say that I was gutted would be an understatement.

I say that cause I wrote off to them, thinking nothing more of it. However, I had a reply from their drummer, saying that they’d do a headlining tour of the UK (which didn’t happen)and had a sticker of the bands symbol.

Lets say I was in heaven and I’ve still got them.

Re: Foo Fighters- In Your Honour in Other Bands & Artists

I’ve only played the album once and I quite liked it. Okay, its not a patch on The Colour And The Shape, but the rock and acustic thing worked. (Some of the softer stuff could have been done by Jeff Buckly, and that’s no bad thing).

Got a freebie ticket from The Devlins , who played support.

Not a big fan , but think they did pretty good.
‘Its the end of the world as we know it…’ goes down very well after a day of drinking beer in the sun !

That just sounds wonderful…I can see myself shouting the words out along with Mr Stipe…yes, even if I’m…ing a couple of people off. Don’t want to get drunk though.

Out of interest, how much of the old stuff did they play?

REM on Tour 05 in Other Bands & Artists

Title: REM on Tour 05

Roll on Sunday July 10th, 2005, when I’ll be going to see REM in Cardiff. I know that touring Europe at the moment and doing Live 8, but I’m really looking forward to it.

Alright, Around The Sun wasn’t up to much (though it did have its moments)but is anyone going to see them.

By the way, my fave REM albums are Reckoning and Life’s Rich Pagent. What’s yours?

Re: Best AC/DC Album? in Other Bands & Artists

Its a tie between Highway to Hell and Back In Black, but BIB does it for me.

And I’ve yet to start getting those reissues.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

At the moment, I’m not listening to much. I bought two Nick Drake CDs yesterday, and they’re good. Before logging on, I was listening to Iron Maiden’s Powerslave.

At the moment, I’m working on my novel, so I’m picky when it comes to listening to music. I need to listen to stuff that would trigger the creative juices.

And yes, T? have been part of the creative process. They’re like a soundtrack to a film that’s yet to be made.

Re: 5 most embarrasing records you own in Other Bands & Artists

I admit, I’ve got some dodgy stuff in my collection. I’ve got a couple of Dog Eat Dog albums, but they were good for that time.

The first Priest album was a bit shite, and, er…I know I got rid of most of the bad stuff…ALRIGHT, I admit to owning a copy of the Crash Test Dummies song Mmm Mmm Mmm. Come on, you know the one, where the singer looked like a smarter version of Anthony Kedis from RHCP…yet I’m embarresed by it…though some of you would want my head on a stick.

Here’s another one. Before I got in Metal, I was just another kid that liked chart music, anything that was in the Top 40 - and I bought Bros’s When Will I Be Bloody Famous - AHHHHAHHHAHHARRRRRAHHHH - MY OLD MAN WOULDN’T LET ME FORGET IT. Still, I had the good sense to get rid of it when I bought Maiden’s Can I Play With Madness single, that Easter…please, don’t hate me.

Re: life of agony in Other Bands & Artists

It’ll be interesting what Broken Valley has in store. I liked the three studio albums, but for me, River Runs Red still holds up as their best (no offence to those who like Soul Searching Sun, by the way).

I liked the rawness and the theme that carries through the album…I remember buying my copy. Roadrunner reissued it in a digipack with extra live tracks…oh happy memories (unlike the character on RRR).

Re: koRn in Other Bands & Artists

Talk about a band that were hyped to the limits. I loved the first album like I did with Troublegum, and was lucky to see them on the Kerrang! stage at Donington - a blinding set. Life is Peachy had its moments. Saw them again at Newport centre - good but not great great (though I would like to shake the hand of who ever threw a pint a Fred Durst’s head).

Follow the Leader, great, thought it was something special. Pity they never toured that album in the UK though. Issues I thought was great, but Untouceables was bollocks. Four million dollars for a shit set of songs. Clearly, the money went to their heads and those whom followed who could relate to Jonathan Davis’ lyrics, myself included, wanted nothing to do with them.

Thankfully, I don’t have any Korn tattoos. Personally, I think Head made the right choice, by jumping off a sinking ship.

Re: SOAD- Mesmerize in Other Bands & Artists

I paid twelve ninety nine in HMV. Not bad considering. As for the album, well, I’ve played it once and ITS FUCKING NUTS. In other words, its a good album.

Re: Boy Bands in Other Bands & Artists

That’s a hard one, cause they think they’re ‘artists’ - puupets on a string is the best way to describe them.

Re: life of agony in Other Bands & Artists

Thing is though, they probably won’t be as good when they came out with River Runs Red.

God, wasn’t that a classic album.

Fatal in Other Bands & Artists

Title: Fatal

Does anyone have any information about the rap group Fatal? They were the band that teamed up with T? on the Judgement Night soundtrack in 1993. The track was called ‘Come & Die’, a brilliant track that is often overlooked.

If you’ve heard the track, you’d probably agree with me, but I hardly know anything else by them. They were around the same time as House of Pain and Cypress Hill, around the early to mid 90’s.

Re: Judas Priest - Angel of Retribution in Other Bands & Artists

Must admit, I wasn’t that fussed about the album. That’s not to say that the album is crap, far from it. I’ll give it a few listens, but it just shows the band have a lot of time to make up.

In saying that, ‘Judas Rising’, the opening track, is amazing.

Re: Edwin Collins has a brain hemmorhage in Other Bands & Artists

Same here. May not be too fussed with his music, but he comes across as a fine person.

Here’s hope that he recovers.

Re: What is your faviroute support band from the two British Therapy? tours this year? in Other Bands & Artists

How about Pet Lamb, who supported T? on their last UK tour of 1994. I thought they were great, but very little has been heard of them since.

Re: NASUM - Mieszko is lost :(( in Other Bands & Artists

I don’t own any NASUM albums, but I have had the pleasure to hear them.

My thoughts, after reading this weeks Kerrang! and the messages here, are with the band and his family.

Re: Underrated Albums in Other Bands & Artists

Most Therapy? albums after Troublegum were ignored, but I’ve got loads of albums that deserve attention, and some most have never heard before and read briefly.

Vision Of Disorder - S/T
Black Train Jack - No Reward
Suicidal Tendiances (I’ve spelt this wrong)- S/T
Possessed - Seven Churches
Labrat - Ruin It For Everyone
Pink Floyd - Piper At The Gates Of Dawn
Queen - S/T
Levellers - S/T (but like T?, most of their albums got ignored after release)
Obituary - Cause of Death
Death - Scream Bloody Gore
David Bowie - The Man Who Sold The World
Mercyful Fate - Melisa

…that’s just a few. I’ve got others in my collection, but this list will have to do for now.

Re: Albums for 2005 in Other Bands & Artists

Its far to early to say what albums I’m going to get. The two SOAD albums look promising. It’ll interesting what the Priest have got lined up (Painkiller was a classic), Maiden might return, and who knows, perhaps Therapy? will release another album.

But as said, its a bit early to say until release dates are confirmed.

Re: For Joy Divison fans in Other Bands & Artists

I just hope the film can live up to the book that Ian Curtis’ widow wrote. 24 Hour People was a good film, but it only touched the surface a little.

Peter Hook (JD bassist) was read that Jude Law would be taking the role of Ian. To be honest, I think that’ll be a good one.

Re: Pantera ex-members killed in Other Bands & Artists

I am gutted to hear of Dimebag’s passing. Pantera’s music formed part of my life between the ages of 16 and 22. I must admit that I don’t follow Damageplan, but I was lucky to see Pantera on their Far Beyond Driven tour in 1994.

Rest easy, Darrel, and thanks for the memories.

Re: Iron Maiden in Other Bands & Artists

Bruce is Maiden, full stop. Paul Di’anno was great for those first two albums but I don’t think he’d sound that great on Run To The Hills or The Trooper.

With Bruce, he just gets the crowd going. I saw Maiden in Cardiff last year, and everyone in the hall just listened to what he said, even though the crowd boo’d when their Earls Court gig was mentioned. But he gets a response, and that is something.

I never got into the Blaze era. During that time, I must admit, I lost interest in Maiden. I recall there were high hopes for Blaze to be Bruce’s replacement and after two albums he was out. Just reading the gig reviews just said it all - he was no Bruce.

Re: the dead kennedys in Other Bands & Artists

Dead Kennedys were a great band. I can’t say much about their recent reformation as I’ve yet to hear them, but in their heyday, they were really something.

Fresh Fruit…is their best known work along with Too Drunk To Fuck (can’t believe that was a Top 40 hit), but my fave DK album has to be Frankenchrist.

Yup, that was the album that had HR Giger’s infamous poster included and later had Jello Biafra in court, but look pass all that and there’s an underrated album. For me at least, it’s still relevent like Fresh Fruit…and the social issues and stereotypes of the States still stick out to this day.

Check ‘em out

Re: 2004 - pretty weak year in Other Bands & Artists

I don’t think musically its been that bad. On the personal front, I’ve had a REAL mixed bag, but I’ve bought some good albums this year.

Therapy? - NANE(of course)
Slipknot - Vol 3
Franz Ferdinand - Self Titled
REM - Around The Sun

Add to that, loads of back catolouge stuff.

I’ve also bought some real good books this year; John King’s The Prison House, Jonathen Trigall’s Boy A, plus some older novels from skinhead writer Stuart Home and the late Hubert Selby Jnr.

Re: Senser in Other Bands & Artists

Title: Senser

I remember Senser indeed. They were Britain’s answer to Rage Against The Machine and had a following. I never got to see them, but I think Stacked Up is a classic album but I think its also a very underrated album that’s been lost.

By rights, like Therapy?, they deserve better.

Now that the likes of these ‘nu metal’ bands are dying a death, where the music doesn’t seem much anymore, Stacked Up still pulls a punch.
