Re: Guilty pleasure movies in Chit-Chat

I’ve got two Transformers box sets. I didn’t pay them, I won them through a competition through the Big Issue. I do intend of buying the movie and a few other boxsets when shops realize that no one is going to pay thirty odd quid for a couple of cartoons, no matter how good they are.

(Oh, but Transformers are cool;))

Wha’ you mean, me and Hooch? Look, that Tom Hanks film with that large mutt was okay at the time and I was never fussed on that alcoholic lemonade.

Thanks for agreeing on Transformers, by the way.

Thank you, thank you, thank you…I’m overwelmed that some people here had good taste as kids.

Re: Guilty pleasure movies in Chit-Chat

I have a soft spot for Lost Boys - a true 80’s classic. Oh, I also have a thing about Transformers and Gummi Bears cartoons.

Am I that weird or just normal like everyone else on WoM?

I really hope they don’t fuck up Episode 3 like they did with 1 & 2 because the storyline has the potential to be really cool.

My favourite Stars Wars film is The Empire Strikes Back it made quite an impression on me when i first saw it,i think i was about 4 or 5 at the time and it was the first film i’d seen where the heroes didn’t win at the end.

Same here, cause it got you wanting to see the next film (Return of the Jedi, which I didn’t think was that bad cause of the Ewoks), but I saw Phnatom Menace and thought it was a bit slow. Jar Jar Binks didn’t bother me, but it lacked the magic of the trilogy that we all knew first time round.

Re: The General Election in Chit-Chat

I know this is a bit late, but from where I am (I voted Lib Dem, by the way), the BNP only had 770 votes. Not so much of a threat in Swansea after all, thank fuck.

Re: Smug Bastards in Chit-Chat

Anyone from the BNP

I knew I had forgotten some people along the way. They had one canidate on my voting slip. Just one word to describe them. Well, two, okay three: FUCKING NAZI BASTARDS.

Re: Smug Bastards in Chit-Chat

Christ, where I start. Lets see now:

Posh and fucking Becks
Vernon (sorry, VERMIN) Kaye
George Bush Snr and his jackass son
Lee from Blue
Simon Cowell
Some of the reviewers on Newsnight Review (but not Mark Lawson)
Jeremy Paxman
Dani Filth
…fuck, who else…
The Gallaghers (I might have spelt that wrong, but bollocks to it)…
Richard and Judy
Tony Blair (like I really needed to put that down)
…and to top it off, some of the bastards on the gay scene. Some can be so big headed, they’ve got their heads up their arses. They also like to put people down, which is why I’ve mentioned them here.

Re: The Pope in Chit-Chat

Great, we’ve got an ex-Nazi for a Pope. Same as John Paul II, he probably hates me already as I am gay. But then again, at the end of the day, the Catholic church is only killing itself. I’m sure God would rather have us to be normal humna beings, not talked down to like filth, or whatever.

Re: Your First Album? in Chit-Chat

First album that I bought for myself (rather than bought for me) was Queen II by Queen. The album is now scratched to death, but its a good album. I was eleven years old and was Queen mad - till a year later when I got into Def Leppard (I know, I should hang my head in shame) and Iron Maiden (see, things did improve).

I’m not sure whether to take that as an insult or not… But yeah I suppose I will get out of homework :D

If its any help, I went to a Catholic school myself and it felt like I was being told what to believe. As a result, I don’t have much respect for the church. Sorry to see John Paul II go though.

Re: as today is the 11th anniversary of kurt cobain’s death in Chit-Chat

I remember the day that day well. MTV had Phil Collins on all weekend and they had newsflashes every hours. Oddly enoug, I was playing T?’s Troublegum album. Iwas numb when they said that he died from a gun shot wound, a few days before.

Re: Doctor Who in Chit-Chat

I was never a massive DW fan growing up, but I did enjoy the show and I’ll tune in again.

can’t think of anything else for the moment.

There’s a brief scene in Airheads where T?’s Nurse poster is hanging on the wall. The Crow is a great film, but don’t remember seeing a T? poster there though.

Re: Hunter S Thompson tops himself in Chit-Chat

I thought he was one of these people that would stick around forever. He’ll be missed, of course, and I’ve yet to read Fear and Loathing in Las Vages

Re: Happy New Year… in Chit-Chat

I honestly thought I’d never see the end of this year. Not being morbid or anything, but my view on life was bleak at the start of the year, as it has been for the last couple of years.

However, with a little encouragement, I’ll be out tonight to celebrate the New Year, at The Kings Arms in Swansea in fancy dress (Clockwork Orange, would you believe).

I had my moments, for good and bad, but I’m hopefull, if anything.

Happy New Year to the lot of you, my T? loving friends. Who knows, I might have another T? tattoo.

Have a good one.

Re: Best films of 2004 in Chit-Chat

For me, its got to be The Football Factory.

A great film that came out of a great book (which is a rare thing).

Re: John Peel in Chit-Chat

I know this is a bit late, but his funeral had just gone by and I’m still numb that he’s gone. I only heard bits of his show on Radio 1 but I liked what I heard.

The fact that he had Napalm Death and Carcass do a session for him was out of this world. Whilst the other rock show on Radio 1 played mostly poodle rock and the odd bit of thrash, John touched the nerve of the underground, and brought grindcore and Death metal to the light.

There won’t be like one like him again.

Rest easy, John.

Re: The Football Factory in Chit-Chat

I must be honest, I found Powder hard reading. For me, it started well, but towards the end, I didn’t know what the hell was going on.

But Kevin Sampson has written some good books, I’ll give him credit for that. Awaydays and Outlaws are good books, but Powder just became hard work in the end.

The Football Factory in Chit-Chat

Title: The Football Factory

When Irvine Welsh’s book Trainspotting was turned into a must see film in 1996, another cult classic was soon making its way into print. That book was called The Football Factory, penned by Londoner John King.

Now, its obviously a football book but you don’t need to be a football fan (which I ain’t) to enjoy it. In fact, its the otherside of the game - the hooligan side, who travel around the country,on the… and always ready for a fight.

The books main character, Tommy Johnson, is the sort of person that we all see around; likes his beer, has an eye for the ladies, hates his job but has to fund his violent hobby and cocaine habit.

But there’s a more human side to the story; the people from another generation, those who went through the Second World War that began to die (Albert Moss) and the hopeless feeling felt by others (Bill Farrel, though known as Mr Farrel here. His full name is mentioned in the other two books in the serious - Headhunters and England Away).

Eight years after Trainspotting, this cult classic was turned into a film by Nick Love, and Danny Dyer as Tommy. As the old saying goes, the book is always better than the film and it apllies here, but Love touches all the main key parts of King’s book, and on top that, its a grin as well as frightning.

The only gripe is that Love could have used some of the black characters in the book, so it wasn’t all white.

Either way, they’re both worth checking out. Also, check out John King’s other books, Human Punk and The Prison House - both worth a read.
