Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

good night to you too

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

i couldn’t do that; much too technical for me. i’m alreay proud of myself if i succeed in restringing my bass properly.
you must know what you’re doing. shouldn’t you try to find a wood worker and cooperate in making a new custom made bass guitar? i think i’d be interested in a 5 string version

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

do i understand you correctly if i understand that you’re actually building your own bass, or is my understanding of the english language too poor considering the time of day?

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

my first bass was a genuine rubbish made by sakai. it was a true rubbish jazz bass and it sounden like crap amplified by a 50 watt guitar amp :)

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

and here we are again: bass the final frontier. have it your way, even if it means boring discussions about status versus stingray basses. evrything is possible and plausible

A Musicman Stingray 5 string, an acoustic Washburn AB10 5 string and a 12 string acoustic guitar of the unknown dutch brand Gerrinez.

Re: New baby in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

It’s obvious you never played or heard this instrument. Your assumptions are therefore not reliable, but you’re entitled to your own opinion, off course.

Re: Turn Unplugged in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

The bass line isn’t too hard, but you have to practise. Why do most of you always thinks you can play a riff, chord patern or bass line when you found out how to play it? Practise is the magic word. :D

By the way, I also don’t understand what you mean with ‘the wood is a bit in the way’. Without the wood, my bass would sound like shit.

Re: Bass advice needed in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Be prepared that your fingers will hurt the first weeks. It will go away eventually. Don’t do too much in the beginning and don’t force it. If you have a good teacher he (or she) will tell you all you need to know. I hope you’re a quick learner,’cos imo bass is the finest and most rewarding instrument to play. Have fun!

Re: The Most Fun T? Song To Play On Guitar…? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

In my case it’s not on guitar but on bass: Turn, Die laughing, Long distance, If it kills me and Teethgrinder.

Re: Earthworm Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Professor Misanthropologist is right. And if it doesn’t help (which can only mean you didn’t do it right) I advise you to go to a good shop with excellent technicians and they’ll do the trick for you. Good luck!

Re: Out of interest: String Gauges in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I always use the DR set for 5-string bass. They’re quite expensive (about € 65) but last for almost six monts and the sound is fantastic!

Re: Bass to start out with in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Epiphone and Yamaha have some rather cheap but reasonable basses, but you can also try to buy a second hand bass. That’s what I did, many years ago.

Re: I can’t play barre chords, please help me! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

It seems not easy but it’s easy to learn: practise a lot and strenghten your fingers. Like all good things; do it a lot every day. Discipline’s the key word.

Re: anyone come across one of these? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I hope it sounds good, ‘cause it looks awfull!

Re: Bass Equipment in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

If you need a cheap (€ 45)and good one, I can recommend the BEHRINGER ULTRA-DI DI100. I know a keyboard player who uses it and it’s a stable device that takes away the ‘hum’. I however prefer amps with an integrated DI.

Re: Need Advice- Solid Beginner’s Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Well, not in my garden because I don’t have one, but I play bass on my (oh yes) balcony :)

Re: Need Advice- Solid Beginner’s Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

deadsetgav an pip are right. But, if you can find a second hand Fender or Ibanez, don’t hestitate. It leaves you all the more money for a small amp.

I recently bought a Crate TXB50, which is great for the living room, and even the garden. It also has nine effects on-board. But, if you’re just looking for a small amp that does nothing else but producing a sound, go for something cheap, but never less than 50 watts.
