Re: Please recommend me some Therapy? album in Chit-Chat
Dear trohat,
The boy’s asleep is a good song but not representative. I would suggest you listen to Nurse, Troublegum, High Anxiety, Never apologise never explain and Crooked timber. The not-mentioned albums are fantastic as well, but you have to start somewhere…:)
yours truly,
3ddo
…and if it makes you happy, it doesn’t make me sorry

Don’t worry Fiona, holidays will always make you feel better. Especially when you meet some beautiful bottle nose dolphins and pilot whales!

Re: Your taste in music… in Chit-Chat
very intersetting thread, and never seen before (at this forum anyway). from what i’ve seen untill now, i think i can add a few bands and composers. what about J.S. Bach (believe it or not, he’s my all time favorite), Vivaldi, Händel, Locatelli, Gustav Mahler, Claude Bedussy, Charlie Parker, Miles Davis, Coleman Hawkins, Syd Barrett, Pink Floyd, Genesis with Peter Gabriel, King Crimson, Talking Heads, The Cure, Killing Joke, The Sound, Crass, Dead Kennedys, Stiff little fingers, The Damned, The Mission, Metallica, Wolfmother, Tool, Editors, New Cool Collective, Hans Teeuwen, Benjamin Herman, Racoon, Gruppo Sportivo, and some more…

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat
Usually I read a few books at the same time. Momentarilly they are Sherlock Holmes, the complete novels and stories (off course by Conan Doyle), The complete works of E.A. Poe, a travelling book about Berlin (I’m going there to run the marathon and do other things) and short stories by a recently deceased Dutch author called Martin Bril. The books are totally different, but also similar: short stories.

Re: What is your perfect song? in Chit-Chat
The perfect song doesn’t exist. Every day another song or tune is ‘the best’, but never perfect. Almost perfect is more interesting than perfect!

Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat
6th June: Kaderock in The Hague. There was this fantastic rockband with three female singers: Two Way Radio The best Dutch band in years!

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat
I always read more books at the same time, depending on what time of day, what mood I’m in… The past few months I’ve been reading Sherlock Holmes, the complete novels and stories by Arthur Conan Doyle, Edgar Allan Poe, Mijn leven als hond by the recently departed, brilliant Dutch columnist Martin Bril and an interesting book about the secret history of the world.

Re: European elections in Chit-Chat
If we vote(d) or not, we can’t ignore that we’re part of the EU. Once every five years we have something to say. It’s easy to vote for parties that are against everything that smells like EU. But what do they have to offer? Nothing. The PVV, an extreme right wing Dutch party ended up second. They are going to do nothing in Brussels but shout and disagree with everything. Count your blessings!
I’m not entirely pro-EU, but I think that we need each other to get things done. And, it has it’s benefits. Dutch citizens pay € 245.00 per person a year and benfit approximately € 600.00 per person a year. Ignorance ruled the EU-elections, otherwise this PVV had not won in Holland.

Re: What is your perfect song? in Chit-Chat
if perfect ‘songs’ exist, mine will be:
therapy? - long distance, if it kills me and turn
charlie parker - bird of paradise (best altosaxsolo ever)
syd barrett - dominoes
pink floyd - interstellar overdrive
the cure - a strange day
joy division - love will tear us apart
new order - dreams never end
the sound - sense of purpose
j.s. bach - ciaccona from partita in D minor for violin solo (bwv 1004), violin concerto in a minor (bwv 1041)
talking heads - the great curve
the damned - smash it up part 1 & 2
alice in chains - would
but that’s today. tomorrow i might choose different songs

Re: Training in Chit-Chat
My ideal cicumstances last sunday during the marathon in Rotterdam. I beat my time of last year’s edition with 7 minutes and 20 seconds: 3:40:57. Hopefully I’ll run under 3:35 in Berlin next september. Whoever finishes a marathon is a hero, even your niece beats you in the last metres Ronald!

By the way: great name for a tour: the T? tour the france. Punkwak, a few other cycling WOMbles and I do the promotion on bike and at night the great T? will play a gig.

Re: hello, again in Chit-Chat
just woke up from my hibernation. it took me some time to catch up, reading all Discussions, but it seems like nothing has changed: same faces, same names, same friendliness. i’ll try to visit the WOM more often, because it’s uplifting and sheer fun to share thoughts and ideas with you.

Re: Depression - Can’t hack it any more in Chit-Chat
My dear friend fatboy, you’ve got a world to gain and it looks like you’re doing better than when you started this thread. That means you have courage. I respect you for that. I recognise your problems because someone very close to me deals with more or less the same ones.
I can only wish you strength and courage to go on with your life. If you ever feel the need to have chat, just drop me a line. I’m honest.

Re: What did you do of your 80’s in Chit-Chat
how nostalgic! the (early) eighties were great (for me.) I remember attending a U2 gig in Het Paard in The Hague in 1980 and Killing Joke at the same venue a few months later; they played so loud, it still hurts.
gigs were cheap in those days. we could go to the UK Subs for 2.5 guilders.
the first half of the eighties were better than the second half, musically speaking. there are exceptions off course like the mission, metallica and therapy?, but they’re not really eighties’ bands.

Re: Life on Mars CONTAINS SPOILERS! in Chit-Chat
Mrs Balcony and I watched the series and we enjoyed it a lot. Fortunately we can watch a lot of good quality British drama on Dutch and Belgian tv, and BBC 1 and 2.
