Also Whipping Boy’s Heartworm album is still my favourite album of all time…anyone know where i can get hold of another copy as mine is burnt out…

Fantastic album. There’s one on Ebay at the moment, apparently never played, and a quite a few in varying conditions at http://www.netsoundsmusic.com.

Would have loved to see T? and Kerbdog on the same bill. Rico by far and away, the best support I’ve seen with Therapy? though.

Although, I quite liked Amplifier as well…

* Placebo - Where Is My Mind

I’ve not heard it, but surely that can’t improve on the original?

Anyway, I reckon all these are worth a listen:

Guns N Roses - Ain’t It Fun (orig. Rocket From The Tombs)
Senseless Things - Answering Machine (The Replacements)
Johnny Cash - Hurt (Nine Inch Nails)
Redd Kross - Yesterday Once More (The Carpenters)
Seaweed - Go Your Own Way (Fleetwood Mac)
Joyrider - Rush Hour (Jane Wiedlin)
Metallica - Tuesday’s Gone (Lynyrd Skynyrd)
Jimmy Eat World - Firestarter (Prodigy)

And I heartily recommend buying both Guns N Roses’ Spaghetti Incident and Metallica’s Garage Inc - 2 excellent covers albums.

Re: Scopophobia Regional Coding in General Therapy? Topics

My copy of Scopophobia says it’s Region 0 (i.e. not coded to any particular region). Which should mean it will play on any player (standalone or PC) in any region. However, the video signal is encoded in PAL (the standard used in Europe) and not NTSC (the standard used in North America). PC’s shouldn’t have a problem with this, but if you’re playing it on a standalone DVD player, your TV will need to be able to display PAL signals. The manual for your TV may (or may not) tell you whether it can do this. Although, the best way to determine this, is to stick the DVD in the player, press play and see what happens… :)

Re: Thank You Santa in General Therapy? Topics

The thing that annoys me about Scopophobia is that there’s no option to play all the videos consecutively…you’ve either got to go through the menu for each vid individually, or hit skip to forward to the next title each time you get to the (excessively long) A&M copyright bit.

Luckily Santa got me a DVD-burner for Christmas, so I now have 37 minutes of uninterupted, remote control free T? videos to watch :D

However, I can’t kill the A&M bit at the end of Nausea cos’ the bassline is still fading out at the end when the blasted thing pops up!

I only have two words to say about the Barfly gig…

Fuck & me.

They were amazing. (Okay, that’s five words…)

Andy has gone on record as saying he doesn’t really like Infernal Love, and you could construe that as an admission that they did make the wrong album after Troublegum.

But hasn’t Andy also criticised Troublegum and Semi-Detached at various points as well? I certainly got the impression on the SP - YF tour that at that point in time he wasn’t that impressed with either…at the Camden gig he definitely said something along the lines that they only still played Troublegum stuff because that’s what we wanted hear (the implication being that they didn’t actually want to play them). The cynic in me would suggest that the fact that all throughout the tour they were getting crowd members to sing Nowhere (and in one instance, play the guitar parts) indicates that they, or Andy at least, didn’t really want to be playing that song in particular. Thus, I wouldn’t necessarily take that as an admission that Infernal Love was the wrong album to make.

In fact, I’ve always considered Infernal Love a pretty successful album…admitedly it didn’t send T? stratospheric, and it probably didn’t retain some of the fans of Troublegum, but the singles didn’t do too badly, and in terms of profile within the rock industry, I reckon the Infernal Love period was when they were at the biggest. I think the gap between IF and SD and the whole A&M thing was probably more damaging.

And thinking about it, I don’t really like the term “wrong album”. It does sort of imply that the music isn’t all that matters. And I don’t think that’s ever been the case with T? Infernal Love is simply the natural sound of the band at that point in time (Fyfe becoming increasingly uncomfortable with the fame thing; Andy in his own words “losing it a bit”)…I don’t think they could have made a different album if they tried. And besides, something that good can’t be wrong! :)

Re: Your Top 3 Albums @ totalrock in General Therapy? Topics

Title: Maybe I should have voted Troublegum…

it probably has the best chance of making the Top 50.

However I went for…

Therapy? - Nurse
Iron Maiden - Seventh Son Of A Seventh Son
Afghan Whigs - Black Love

Bubbling under were Troublegum, Siamese Dream, Angel Dust & Kerbdog.

Re: Feeder… in Other Bands & Artists

Feeder have always struck me as the type of band you can’t really hate, but on the other hand, they’re just never going to be your favourite band. They’re just sort of…not bad.

I do like Just The Way I’m Feeling a helluva lot though.

Joyrider. Yeah.

Thier singer/guitarist has a band now called Ninebar Internatonal. Been around for a few years. They are definitely really really good.

They seem to have renamed themselves Roque Junior after the crap world cup winning Leeds defender.

Their site is here: http://www.roquejunior.com - there’s 4 mp3’s to download - not as good as Joyrider though.

Re: Best song T? have played to open a show in Therapy? Live

Title: Another vote for Big Cave In…

I’m pretty sure I’m right in saying that Suicide Pact hadn’t come out yet when they played Camden on the SP tour. I seem to remember the gig was on a Thursday and the album came out the following Monday…in which case, opening your set with a 6 minute instrumental that nobody would even know should be A VERY BAD IDEA!!! But Christ, it was a masterstroke…absolute class, and I wish they’d play it again.

Re: well I just got my first tattoo in General Therapy? Topics

I’ll second the Preperation H approach…my last tat hardly scabbed up at all and so healed very quick. Plus, my tattooist sells the stuff, so you don’t have to go through the “embarassing chemist’s situation” :)

Re: Where did T? go “wrong”? in General Therapy? Topics

While I think the whole A&M thing, the lack of a Troublegum II, and the gap between IF and SD, contributed (and still contribute) to the fact that T? aren’t as big as it once appeared they could be…realistically how big could they have been? How many UK rock bands are there at the moment who could sell out an arena tour? Maiden and the Manics, I reckon. Feeder are doing some arena dates, but I doubt they’ll be sold out. I don’t reckon there’s anyone else though - you could maybe argue Leppard, but I think people have forgotten about them in the way they’ve forgotten about T? Despite all the photos of a gurning Justin Hawkins that seem to grace the Sun every day, Rock is never going to be the genre of music for the masses. I don’t think anyone should kid themselves that T? could have ever come anywhere close to being truly huge.

Thus, I have to say that I don’t think there’s that big a gulf between where T? could have been, where they did get to, and where they are now. As a UK rock band, the most they could realistically have expected was maybe a couple more chart-worrying albums and to fill the Brixton Academy a few more times.

Which IMHO makes the fact that they are still playing venues like the Astoria pretty amazing. As far as London venues go, the Astoria is probably one rung below the BA, so for a band about 9 years past their commercial prime, with absolutely no hype to back them up, and who have, by and large, been out of the public eye for about 7 years, I think that’s pretty damn impressive.

Re: Good evening everybody… in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

Cheers guys.

As for least favourite, I’d probably have to say Don’t Expect Roses. It just sort of screams “Look at me, I’m filler” at you. You just know it was only put on SD to make up the numbers. There’s probably a few worse songs, but I don’t think that there are any that are quite so utterly pointless.

was a great set.
It really annoyed me though when the likes of Punishment Kiss & Dancin With Manson were played, there was no real crowd reaction.

Have to agree with that! It seemed like I was only one of a few people that even recognised Punishment Kiss, and the lack of reaction for Dancin With Manson was surprising seeing as that was one of the poll winners. And yet everyone goes mental for Church of Noise, which is a good song, but not a great song.

Having said that though, I thought PK was one of the weaker points in what was overall an excellent performance. Teethgrinder, Moment of Clarity, Turn and Sister were all absolutely blistering.

Did anyone else notice how empty the Astoria was though? I reckon it was only about 2/3rds to 3/4 full. It was rammed for The Distillers a couple of weeks ago, yet last night I made my way to the front without having to say excuse me to anyone, while the upstairs seating bit (which I’ve never really understood…why would you want to sit down?) was virtually empty.

Anyway, for those of you not there last night, here’s the setlist. I think I’ve remembered all the songs but I’m pretty sure I’ve screwed up the order!

(Speeded up William Tell Overture intro)
Nowhere
Teethgrinder
Nobody Here But Us
Limbo
Straight Life
Who Knows
Moment Of Clarity
Sister
Punishment Kiss
Turn
Church of Noise
Dancin With Manson
Rust
If It Kills Me
Stop It Your Killing Me
Potato Junkie
Screamager
Stories
Knives
Die Laughing
Isolation
(Your are my sunshine outro)

Good evening everybody… in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

Title: Good evening everybody…

I’m Kids Stuff, and I have to say that T? were damn fine at the Astoria last night.

I first got into Therapy? in the backseat of my parent’s Metallic Blue Volvo 740GLT somewhere on the Uckfield bypass in Sussex, when I heard Opal Mantra on the Evening Session. Which I think must have made me 15 at the time. And ever since then, along with Afghan Whigs, Kerbdog & Faith No More, they’ve been one of my favourite bands…and I’m damn glad they are still around, because I ain’t ever goin to get to see the others again!

Favourite album would have to be the mighty Nurse, and as for favourite song, well, I can narrow it down to a Top 15!
