Re: How old are Therapy? fans???? in General Therapy? Topics

Quote (author unknown):

ive been listening to therapy since my uncle gave me infernal love and i heard a moment of clarity

That’s scary. I’m calling the authorities.

Ahem. I thought I had posted earlier in this topic but I can’t see it now. Still, if I did I would have said I’m 31, and I’m 32 now.

Re: Best NANE track in General Therapy? Topics

Rock You Monkeys it was for me. Top riff! And as Ginger said, ‘It’s all about the riff’…

Re: Press attention in General Therapy? Topics

Indeed. And I have defended them on that very page against a couple of slightly ignorant comments…

Re: List Where You Want T? in Therapy? Live

Title: Bristol!

Bristol - Academy or Anson Rooms. Judging by the amount of people going mental for them when they supported The Wildhearts there in May, they should get a respectable turnout.

Or failing that, my house.

My copy finally arrived. Cease gloating now.

It’s rather good, isn’t it?

Mailed the Xfm DJ in question, who replied pretty quickly, saying that the record company still haven’t sent him the copies. So not lost in the post then… but more waiting!

Re: I won’t be buying the new album… in General Therapy? Topics

Update: it never arrived. I still don’t have the album and certainly can’t afford it right now. Have contacted Xfm… fingers crossed…

Re: One problem in General Therapy? Topics

The Wildhearts Must Be Destroyed - 31 mins
It’s A Shame About Ray (Lemonheads) - 27 mins (or just over 30 on the version with Mrs Robinson on it)
Disappear Here (forthcoming Silver Sun album) - 30 mins

…and so on. Sometimes, albums that don’t outstay their welcome rock! Don’t know about NANE yet as my (Xfm competition winning) copy hasn’t arrived yet. Mind you, it’s a given that it’ll be ace.

I loved Andy’s impassioned defence of a man in his thirties writing a song of that title. Truly a (rock) God amongst men…

Still, this does mean now that I won’t have my copy on Monday, so you can all gloat at me then…

Happy birthday then Andy, you mad rocking old bastard. Long may you bring high-quality noise to the masses!

Cheers,
Damian.

PS. And if you fancy doing so in or around Bristol in the near future on the NANE tour, so much the better…

Well my ears are still buzzing from last night, Therapy? rocked hard…anyone else there?
I also really enjoyed Glitteratti and The Wildhearts, the whole thing was over far too quickly.
Only complaint the merchandise was crap, had money in hand ready to buy a new hoodie, none to be seen, what’s going on?

Blimey… you’re right. That was the loudest gig I’ve been to in a long time.

Therapy? were majestic and I thought The Wildhearts would have a job following it, but I should have known better. They were brilliant. But then, they are my favourite band and Therapy? are in the top five, so I was hardly expecting to be disappointed… oh, and The Glitterati weren’t bad either.

Re: is martin back yet?? in General Therapy? Topics

Earplugs are NOT sissy. I’m 31 and still enjoying gigs… I’ve never worn earplugs but I now stand well back (I used to stand near the speakers at gigs) and so far, my ears aren’t ringing at night. But I don’t want that to happen either, and may invest in them in the near future.

Martin, if you don’t have them yet, I understand that there’s a make called the Slikplug which costs about a tenner and doesn’t muffle the high frequencies like cheap ones do. A reviewer went to a Raging Speedhorn gig and stood by the speakers. He said the sound was as clear as day and he came out of the venue with hearing intact.

I don’t know shit about them and I think that never will… But that is my fault, nobody’s else. ;)

You soon will, when you see the gigs. The two bands are kindred spirits with good reason. And the best news of all is that your gig date now looks like it will be unchanged! Keep an eye on the website.

Re: Tour in April in Therapy? Live

I don’t think that’s entirely fair. To take a point from your earlier post, I think you’ll love them when you see them, but regarding the ‘fame and wealth’ issue, they’re on a record label that has let them down at every turn, and if you had had the run of luck that they had recently, you would have done the same. I can understand the frustration (particularly of a small number of people who had plane tickets for cancelled US dates) but really, the only people they’ve ever let down over the years have been themselves… the fans generally get a very good deal. If only they could have controlled things in the mid-late 90s, they’d be massive by now.

The ties between The Wildhearts and The Darkness (read the news item on their site if you don’t know what I’m on about) go back longer than the last couple of months. The bands were personal friends a long time before the latter had any level of success, so this wasn’t simply a case of ‘hitch onto the big band’s tour’.

Question for the band in General Therapy? Topics

Title: Question for the band

As you probably know by now, the Wildhearts April tour is being rescheduled and some or all of the dates are changing slightly, although it will still happen around the same time. I just wanted to know whether you know if you’ll be playing on all the rescheduled dates, given that mine (Bristol) is definitely one of those affected!

Thanks,
Damian.

Re: Tour in April in Therapy? Live

Title: Wildhearts tour

You MIGHT be in luck. The Wildhearts are now in the USA until 18 April (which was the Cardiff date). It seems possible that they could be back for about the 20th or 21st and the Glasgow date is on 24 April. So it would make sense for them to keep the dates that they can still play and only reschedule the ones they can’t (one of which is mine, in Bristol). There should be details in the next couple of days - keep an eye on their website.

Title: The tour

A quick note regarding the Wildhearts tour. It’s still on, but the dates are going to change slightly… somewhere within about a week of the original ones, so keep your eyes peeled.

Re: Tour in April in Therapy? Live

Well, The Wildhearts are my favourite band and Therapy? are in the top five, so this is quite honestly the best news ever. I hope nobody on here is too put out that T? are the support… right now it’s true to say that The Wildhearts play to much bigger audiences in the UK. (The fact that T? have had bugger all radio/TV support for years doesn’t help) For a few people with short memories, they’re about to have a real ‘have you forgotten how good they are’ moment!

It will be the best night ever though. When I read that T? had been added my eyes glazed over… I was at work and got some funny stares from the person sitting opposite!

I went to TJ’s on Saturday to see The Wildhearts. Watch out for the low ceiling there - in parts it just touched the top of my head with me standing up straight.

The website for TJ’s says TBC so it might be worth checking that ever so often. I’m in Newcastle that night for a Maiden gig so can’t make it unfortunately.

I was at both that gig and the Therapy? one. In between the two, they’ve dealt with that dangerous ceiling and you can now jump to your heart’s content!

Re: TJ’s, Newport (Dec 3rd, 2003) in Therapy? Live

Title: Newport TJs (merged thread)

Just wanted to say that the Newport gig was fantastic, if a little insane… the small space between crowd and stage meant that every time some crowdsurfed, something needed fixing. The drum kit had to be reset after the first song.

And Andy is still quite the comic genius. After about five attempts at ‘A Moment Of Clarity’, he looked to the sky, said “Dear God, give the fat man a break”… and they finally nailed it. After another song he said “my kids say Daddy, what did you do last night, and I say… I drank some liquor, played some punk rock and got my head kicked in by the crowd… they must be so proud”.

Anyway, enough of my wittering, it was genius and I nabbed a setlist if anyone interested to know what they played…
