Warner Bros have released a statement saying something went wrong with the single they distributed so it sounds distorted. So i’m hoping the quality is far superior on the final CD album.

It actually sounds much better live. I dunno, the whole recording just stinks of Pro-Tool corrections. It is sad that they can’t even pull off songs that aren’t that technically demanding anymore. Lars should take drumming lessons - this is the same guy who recorded Kill ‘em all without a click track! Looks like he is more interested in art nowadays.
I am still pissed off that you can hardly hear rob at all.
Yeah, but lets be fair mate, that was 25 years ago, you’re not gonna be able to bang away at the same pace now!
Fair point about Rob though.

Re: I just bought… in Other Bands & Artists
depends where you buy it from i guess. I’ve always managed to get hold of albums before their release date, you just have to know the right stores!

- Guitar sound is fucking weak, sounds like the older they get, the more the distortion gets taken out
- Snare drum also sounds cheap. More Hard Rock than Metallica
- Bass guitar is somewhere underneath the guitars (I guess Metallica will never learn) - poor Rob
Surprisingly Jame’s vocals are quite good on this one, I think anyways. Kirk’s solo is OK, at least not the usual fast wah crap.
.
I think i agree with most of this. particularly the comment about the less distortion, but nevertheless the overall sound is getting back to a more “classic” metallica sound. James’ voice sounds so much better when he’s not trying to sound like James.
Generally, very encouraging, i think.
Fucking shithouse album artwork though!

Amen!!!
1. Its an insult to the fans that they’d deliberately put a filler track on the album.
2. If it IS the filler, then why would they play it live? “heres a brand new song for you! we know you’ve waited a long time, but we’re gonna play you the crap one”. Utter, Utter bollocks.
Squall, are you not insulted??? Seriously, theres only so much i’ll put up with from a band, your loyalty is seriously misguided. Theres a whole world of bands out there! Oasis, they’ve got a new single out!

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Yes but gave away some of it and then gave away an entire new album, “The Slip”.
I’m not justifying the $300 price tag, like you said yourself these things are collectors items, you don’t HAVE to buy them.

:D
Does anyone here actually like metallica apart from Squall?
I’ve come to the conclusion that they are this generations Rolling Stones, ie The Stones have been banging albums out for donkeys years but haven’t been taken seriously as artists since around 1974. Artistically redundant, i believe the expression is.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Oh i know what you mean Gav, i too found the songs a little more “human” after seeing them live, its just…well…i dunno how to put it…A NIN album, for me, has always been an event. You wait a long time, get the buzz, then come the release its a totally exciting, not just the music but the whole artwork/packaging etc as well. Especially with the build up to Year Zero, that was just amazing. Then with The Slip, it was kinda like “here you go”, flung at you with no fanfare and i feel a little bit “wha…?” Disappointed i suppose.
I’m rambling, i know! :D

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Despite writing it off with a “what the FUCK??” type attitude many months back, for some reason i’ve decided to revisit NIN’s “ghosts” this last few days and my word, its actually really rather very good! Shame on me.
Still undecided on “the Slip”, mind. Thers nothing wrong with it per se, its just a bit…well…non progressive?

I agree about the rolling stones comment - If songs that you wrote when you were 19yrs old (Phantom Lord, Whiplash, Hit The Lights) get on your setlist instead of any new output… you need to sit down and ask yourself some questions.
Like “just what the fuck is that on my chin?”, “where did that fella with the bellbottoms go?”, and “why is this drummer such a cunt?”
