I see it more like having ABS or power steering on your car - its not totally necessary but it would be a cool thing to have

See if DEDE73 has email linked to his profile - I know he’s a member of the board

I’ll bet he’s still got the files.

Re: Learning Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Its well worth looking out for Guitar Pro (i think you can probably get it from a torrent site with a crack - but I would never condone that kinda behaviour).

I dont think it costs the earth to buy either - they used to have a 30 day trial version on their site http://www.guitar-pro.com/en/index.php

Re: Learning Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

There is a really, really handy program out there called Guitar Pro (i think the last one was guitar pro 5, but its a long time since I have used it)

It basically has the tab on screen, and you can either look at the bass, lead, rhythm or drum tab - you can also play a midi interpretation of the track (its not as bad as it sounds) to get the timing right - you can also mute each instrument so you can hear the part that you want.

They used to have the tab files up for download on http://www.mysongbook.com but due to legal twattery they havent been able to allow tabs for most artists for a while. I’m sure you can still get hold of the files from other sources though.

I know the guy that did most of the therapy? tabs on there posts on the board sometimes (DEDE73)

Re: Learning Bass in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Tabs alll well and good but its not like musical score - its just telling you what frets to hit in what order.

You gotta listen to the track and look at the tab at the same time and just go with what you hear. Try ripping the track to mp3.

There are a load of plug ins for media player or whatever that you can use to slow the speed of the track down - try playing it at 75% and getting the feeling right and then speeding it up.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Mastodon are great - I’m not sure what you mean about emotion… they aren’t singing about boken relationships or how hard growing up can be, rather more about winged man-beasts and whale hunting and the sort, but they have some awesome tunes and live they are huella good!

I will never ever ever ever buy a guitar with a Ffloyd Rose locking Trem again, nothing but a pain in the arse.

I have one on a Jackson and I have to agree. Only consider getting one if you absolutely must have a trem… even then, you probably shouldnt bother

Re: Buy me: 18 track digital studio in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Its a bit expensive cause it cost over a grand 4 years ago when we bought it.

So now its a bargain.

Try having a browse through those - its quite easy once you get the hang of it (reading tab that is, playing depends on your ability)

I have a phone that already does this… it indicates when I have drunk all the beer by becoming ‘lost’ and turning up a few days later…

I’m sure Les Claypools main role in life is to remind every aspiring musician, that no matter how good you may think you might be, you dont know shit when it comes to playing bass!

I have a Peavey which is a copy of a Fender Jazz bass, and I can vouch for it… think I picked it up for about £100 and it plays well and sounds fine after 10 years of abuse!

Theres nothing wrong with Encore for the beginner! Thats where i, and several friends, started!

I think Encore used to have a bad name, but I dont think this is really the case anymore - I have an Encore Thunderbird and it is a fucking fantastic sounding instrument and great fun to play.

I have an Encore SG as well, and £pounds£ for instrument, its a bargain!

There is no point in spending £600 on a bass to find out you dont like it…

Re: Get guitar pro! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

You can also output songs to midi files - should you be that way inclined, and make nice ringtones for your mobile phone

Re: Get guitar pro! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Guitar Pro is copyrighted software so i doubt you could post it on here - even if it was small enough.

But the cracked version is out there and easy enough to find.

DONT’s for BASSISTS

Avoid crap like Trace and Laney stuff - its dead and buried, buy it you will sound old! Get something modern that really grinds like an Ashdown. For bedroom purposes try Park (Marshall little brother).#

Completely disagree. My Trace had a fantastic sound and I had a Laney 60w that served me well for years.

I wouldn’t take a Park amp over a Trace or Laney for all the tea in China

Re: amps to record with in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

thats drop C - you shouldnt really have a problem dropping it to that with heavier strings - even if it is a cheap bass.

Posted on Mon, 7 November 2005 at 12:56

Re: amps to record with in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I used to play in dropped C, with the top string being about 105 or 110 i think.

What are you looking at tuning down to?
