Re: What distortion units do have? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I use a Fulltone Bassdrive and a SansAmp Bassdriver. They love each other :).

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I consider every concert like a 2 hour bass solo. :)

I don’t quite get it in General Therapy? Topics
Title: I don’t quite get it (moved from Chit-Chat)
Therapy? has everything, and I mean everything, to be an extremelly successful band.
More innovative and forward pushing than most self proclaimed progressive bands, a charismatic band leader (although he doesn’t like too much to hold this role), catchy songs with excellent lyrics, diversity in style and arrangements, honest and dedicated human beings, a guitar player who can actually play.
As a bonus, they’re extremelly nice to their fans.
I’m pretty sure they wouldn’t like to be the new U2, on the top of everybody’s playlist. Muse already took this lodge anyway.
Still, they should get a lot more airplay and interest from music magazines.
As a musician, I find Therapy? an extremelly inspiring band. Everytime I play their records to somebody, they either love or totally hate it. Either ways, they always show interest.
I must be missing something but I don’t know what.

Festivals ? in Therapy? Live
Title: Festivals ?
We rarely see Therapy? in festivals.
Sounds odd to me. They could fit in many, them being rock, alt or metal.

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I think Pastorius is a major influence for most fretless and/or jazz players. :)
I’m not a die hard fan but i certainly listened to him a lot and worked on a few of his tunes. Lately I got a lot into Michael Manring and Victor Wooten. These guys really seem to bring something new. They show the way, sort of.
Different styles call for different approaches.
For example, I wouldn’t see myself noodling and slaping all over the neck to cover Therapy? songs.
I can really get my kicks playing roots behing the guitar player. Right I mostly play funk and this music is really bass driven.
As for rock/metal bass players, I’m an all time Steve Harris fan. I also like Alex Webster from Cannibal Corpse and… Michael from T?. Does he post on the forum from time to time ?
What about you guys ? What style do you play ? What kind of bass ? Who are your favourite bass players ?

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Ok.
Yeah I misunderstood the post.
Left hand slapping is a good way to speed up your slap.
Basically, the idea is to slap the string with your fretting hand too.
So for example you fret a G with your pointer on the E string, then slap the string with your right thumb and just after, use your leftover left fingers (middle, ring, pinky) alltogether to hit the string. Like you’d mute, but much harder and your hand needs to bounce on the string. With a bit of work it will sound exactly like hitting with your thumb. It allows for very fast sequences alternating right and left hand.
I know my pedalboard is a bit oversized but it’s so much more practical to have them all wired together.

What kind of amp and effects do you use with both the fretted and the fretless basses, and which (effects) do you prefer?
I noticed that overdrive doesn’t work too well with fretless. Over than than, everything works fine. My favourites are pedal wah, bass synth and delay.
Flanger works fantastically on fretless.
I tend to use a lot of effects, probably too many .
Here is a pic of my pedalboard just so you get the idea.

Thats a nice mp3 Jazz Ad …
I am working on the technic to play the tapping style with the right hand with 3 fingers … cause i need that speed.
I saw it once on a bass video called “The Slap bass programm” … Totally freak basser there was *g*
Try to hit the same fret on the same string with your three fingers after each other. A bit weird, but it works after some time.
Well the basser i saw did that in enourmous speed on every string he liked …
Really impressive!
Thank you very much !
I’m terrible at tapping. I really don’t do much. Actually I only use it to reach notes I couldn’t play normally.
The slap method you describe is called left hand slapping I think. I use it pretty often. Really speeds up things.

I won’t do it again sir. :)
Thank you for the attachment.

Clatter in Other Bands & Artists
Title: Clatter
Their dark lyrics make me think of Therapy? by some ways.
Music is different though. Heavy but not as violent.

Re: BASS - the final frontier in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Oh yeah I guess the pics may help a bit about the current fretted/fretless discussion :).
Playing fretless brings a lot of possibilities. General tone is not as “mean” as with a fretted but there are a lot of possibilities. You can add a lot of tension to your lines, it plays faster than a fretted because nothing is in the way and you get a huge feeling of freedom.
Slap is harder to make sound right and of course intonation is a constant concern.
Harmonics are played just like on a fretted and you have even more possibilities, like sliding them along the neck.

Re: Hi in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
My favorite album is Infernal Love. I love the production and general color of the album.
The one I like the least is Shameless. It seems a bit shallow to me.
I like all other albums.
Martin is a very talented musician and IMHO he really brought a lot to the band in terms of originality.
Now, I like the idea of a power trio so for me it’s all good.
I don’t have the DVD yet but plan to buy it.

Hey there, welcome!
Bassists are always welcome here! :)
SO: how long ahve you been playing, and WHAT bass do you have?
I’ve been playing for about 12 years.
I play 2 custom 4 string basses. 1 fretted (the “Zipper Bass”), 1 fretless (the “SweetPea Bass”).
My current band is White Zool and we play jazzrock and funk. Not much to do with Therapy? :D
I’ve played in many styles. I just happen to do that right now.
mp3 ?
I also moderate 2 bass forums, eBassist and Harmony Central Bass Forum

Hi in New Members (Introduce Yourself)
Title: Hi
My name is Jazz Ad.
I’m a french bass player.
I’ve been listening to Therapy? for over 10 years. I discovered them with the Troublegum album and never looked back.
This band seems to have it all for me.
Andy’s lyrics and Michael’s outstanding support playing are very inspring to me.
I play in a funk/jazz-rock band but am open to about any style.
I’m very active on the online bass community. I moderate 2 bass forums and manage a site about effect units.
Other than that, I still haven’t seen Therapy? live and am wishing to do so very soon.
