Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics

Update: Most lines are famous dying words

Pull up the shades I don’t want to go home in the dark (O. Henry)
Now comes the mystery (Henry Ward Beecher)
Friends, applaud, the comedy is over (Ludwig van Beethoven)

Don’t Try (x3)
Try to leave the shadows
You can’t hide
Don’t Try (x3)
Look out here it comes
The whole thing’s coming out in the dark (Samuel Beckett)

I must go in, for the fog is rising (Emily Dickinson)
Yeah. Why not? (Timothy Leary)
Go on, get out - last words are for fools who haven’t said enough (Karl Marx).

Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics

Oh yeah, just remembered and googled one line

I must go in, for the fog is rising (Emily Dickinson)

Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics

it is all lines or references and goes something like:

Pull up the shades I don’t want to go home in the dark. (book by O. Henry)
It’s just a mystery
Friends applaud the comedy is over (Ludwig van Beethoven)

Don’t Try (x3)
Try to leave the shadows
You can’t hide
Don’t Try (x3)
Look out here it comes
The whole thing’s coming out in the dark (a Samuel Beckett quote)

I can’t remember how the second verse starts but one line is:

Go on, get out - last words are for fools who haven’t said enough (Karl Marx’s dying words).

Irish band Ham Sandwich. There’s a poor name.

Re: Crooked Timber (Deluxe Gold)? in General Therapy? Topics

I like the sample version of Magic Mountain, it really improves the original song. Bad Excuse sounds a bit better too. I’m not a huge fan of the snug slut remix of Magic Mountain, it sounds a bit cheesy like the sort of music I saw on a staff training video when starting work at Tescos.

Re: What’s everyone never going to listen to again? in Other Bands & Artists

Oh, Def Leppard. When I was 7 or 8 I used to love them and I bought six albums or so. I stopped listening to them when I was twelve and discovered the Smashing Pumpkins and Nirvana. I’ve never looked back.

Although it was pretty distressing one day a few months ago when I was on a bus and I seen two 15 year old metal kids opposite me discussing going to see Def Leppard and Whitesnake. You would think kids would have their fingers on the pulse when it comes to music, but I guess not.

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics

Going on the strength of the album it would be great to have another single. I could be wrong, but I think the Crooked Timber single sold well at gigs, I saw plenty of people buying it anyway. I think we kind of have to get used to the fact that most singles from now on will be digital or sold at gigs.

Re: What’s everyone never going to listen to again? in Other Bands & Artists

I remember hearing a cover album/tribute to The Clash, not too long after I became interested in The Clash. Songs like Hateful which was covered by No Doubt, Gwen Stefani I truly despise your voice, are tainted for me now.

Oh and someone gave me a copy of Chris Cornell’s latest album. It’s fairly putrid.

Re: hands up who’s having a shit summer in Chit-Chat

Dismal to say the least. I work on a farm for a living so it’s pretty shit when you can’t do much because you’re waiting for the ground to dry up.

Dismal, lol I like it

hands up who’s having a shit summer in Chit-Chat

What a shit summer! Shit weather, recession everywhere and fuck all football on the box!
Ireland’s new “tourist” tax means that hopping over to the Netherlands is chipping into my bank balance, the weather over there is pretty shit too, or at least only when I’m there.
More bombs in Spain, Teenagers murdered in Tel-Aviv, Plane crashes and whatnot

Only highlights have been Psychoville on the box, T? blinder at the Academy, and Charles “Cannibal” Taylor defending himself in the International Criminal Court.

Is anyone else waiting for it all to end? Is it me or are summers getting progressively shitter these last few years and it’s now the winter we look forward to?

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics

You know my comment about the long version of Magic Mountain was a pisstake.

23 minutes, are you joking me???!!!

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics

Exiles would be a great single. It’s got that “cinematic” quality that would be good on music channels and it’s got a great chorus. But what about I Told You I Was Ill? Also great single potential.

A release of the 23-minute version of Magic Mountain would be nice

Re: Eamon Doran’s in General Therapy? Topics

Maybe Grant Hart has an override switch somewhere. I remember him saying he hated T?’s version.

But while on the subject of slagging Eamon Doran’s, the beer on tap is usually shite. And Eamon never answers when you stand at the bar shouting his name. Bastard.

Oh, I forgot the “Born over a grave”…Jesus, is Beckett in every one of the Crooked Timber tunes?

Re: Therapy? remix album in General Therapy? Topics

That’s it really, I would also have to check the songs before I purchase. I loved the Cashier No. 9 remix that was on this site though I never heard the original. If this does come to fruition, I hope it’s an interesting mix from Therapy?’s career with some more recent stuff remixed and/or some B-sides reworked.

Beckett allusions in Crooked Timber in General Therapy? Topics

Does anyone else notice all the Beckett references in Crooked Timber? e.g. “My shade will comfort you” “what do we do, now that we are happy” “I’ll go on” etc.?

On a related note, the “Lessness” Beckett T-shirt that Andy is wearing in the inlay card is ace. I want one.

Re: T? in Dublin 15th May in Therapy? Live

What a fantastic gig, the crowd were great, all were up for the crack and there was very little animosity or unnecessary aggro in the mosh. The band played wonderfully although I thought sometimes the vocals were a bit drowned in the mix. Good banter from Andy and heart-warming to hear of Petri and Kati’s marraige (congratulations both!).

One thing I found strange was the girl near me who on two occasions tried to pull my ear off… what’s that all about?

Re: T? in Dublin 15th May in Therapy? Live

I managed to rope 5 others into going, only two of them have heard of T? before, and both of them have not heard anyhting post-Infernal love

HMV T? Album prices in General Therapy? Topics

I’ve noticed, over the past while, and especially after buying Crooked Timber, that HMV here in Ireland have a strange way of pricing albums. Crooked Timber retailed at 11.99 (euro) on the day it was released, yet NANE still retailed at 22.99. Checking out other HMV’s in Dublin and Cork I’ve noticed that there wasn’t any change, although I did see NANE at 20.99 in one place. High Anxiety I usually see costing around 13 or 14 euro, and OCFA at around 18 or 19. I think it’s bizarre that there is such a discrepancy in the prices. It’s probably nothing to do with the band and more to do with record company/distributers/retailers, but on the point of NANE, I think HMV have overpriced it.

Re: Geeky fact in General Therapy? Topics

My geeky fact: A few months ago someone posted a live gig of Therapy? in Aalborg around 1992 or so. The song “Skinning Pit” had a sample from the British movie “If…” which went “What I’d really hate is to have a nail banged through the back of my neck, slowly.”

Just saw that film on Film4 a while ago, excellent movie.

Re: New album “Crooked Timber” 23 March 2009 in General Therapy? Topics

Great news, it’s made my day anyhow. Strange to see a Kant quote in there, I spent the last few years studying Kant and I never thought a musical act would use a quote by him. The titles seem snappy!

Re: Therapy? 20th Anniversary! in General Therapy? Topics

I like to see a live DVD featuring Magic tricks by Andy and stand-up routine by Michael. Neil could do announcements and drum-rolls.
