Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics
Update: Most lines are famous dying words
Pull up the shades I don’t want to go home in the dark (O. Henry)
Now comes the mystery (Henry Ward Beecher)
Friends, applaud, the comedy is over (Ludwig van Beethoven)
Don’t Try (x3)
Try to leave the shadows
You can’t hide
Don’t Try (x3)
Look out here it comes
The whole thing’s coming out in the dark (Samuel Beckett)
I must go in, for the fog is rising (Emily Dickinson)
Yeah. Why not? (Timothy Leary)
Go on, get out - last words are for fools who haven’t said enough (Karl Marx).

Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics
Oh yeah, just remembered and googled one line
I must go in, for the fog is rising (Emily Dickinson)

Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics
it is all lines or references and goes something like:
Pull up the shades I don’t want to go home in the dark. (book by O. Henry)
It’s just a mystery
Friends applaud the comedy is over (Ludwig van Beethoven)
Don’t Try (x3)
Try to leave the shadows
You can’t hide
Don’t Try (x3)
Look out here it comes
The whole thing’s coming out in the dark (a Samuel Beckett quote)
I can’t remember how the second verse starts but one line is:
Go on, get out - last words are for fools who haven’t said enough (Karl Marx’s dying words).

Re: Crooked Timber (Deluxe Gold)? in General Therapy? Topics
I like the sample version of Magic Mountain, it really improves the original song. Bad Excuse sounds a bit better too. I’m not a huge fan of the snug slut remix of Magic Mountain, it sounds a bit cheesy like the sort of music I saw on a staff training video when starting work at Tescos.

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics
Going on the strength of the album it would be great to have another single. I could be wrong, but I think the Crooked Timber single sold well at gigs, I saw plenty of people buying it anyway. I think we kind of have to get used to the fact that most singles from now on will be digital or sold at gigs.

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics
You know my comment about the long version of Magic Mountain was a pisstake.
23 minutes, are you joking me???!!!

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics
Exiles would be a great single. It’s got that “cinematic” quality that would be good on music channels and it’s got a great chorus. But what about I Told You I Was Ill? Also great single potential.

Re: A new single ? in General Therapy? Topics
A release of the 23-minute version of Magic Mountain would be nice

Re: Eamon Doran’s in General Therapy? Topics
Maybe Grant Hart has an override switch somewhere. I remember him saying he hated T?’s version.
But while on the subject of slagging Eamon Doran’s, the beer on tap is usually shite. And Eamon never answers when you stand at the bar shouting his name. Bastard.

Oh, I forgot the “Born over a grave”…Jesus, is Beckett in every one of the Crooked Timber tunes?

Re: Therapy? remix album in General Therapy? Topics
That’s it really, I would also have to check the songs before I purchase. I loved the Cashier No. 9 remix that was on this site though I never heard the original. If this does come to fruition, I hope it’s an interesting mix from Therapy?’s career with some more recent stuff remixed and/or some B-sides reworked.

Beckett allusions in Crooked Timber in General Therapy? Topics
Does anyone else notice all the Beckett references in Crooked Timber? e.g. “My shade will comfort you” “what do we do, now that we are happy” “I’ll go on” etc.?
On a related note, the “Lessness” Beckett T-shirt that Andy is wearing in the inlay card is ace. I want one.

HMV T? Album prices in General Therapy? Topics
I’ve noticed, over the past while, and especially after buying Crooked Timber, that HMV here in Ireland have a strange way of pricing albums. Crooked Timber retailed at 11.99 (euro) on the day it was released, yet NANE still retailed at 22.99. Checking out other HMV’s in Dublin and Cork I’ve noticed that there wasn’t any change, although I did see NANE at 20.99 in one place. High Anxiety I usually see costing around 13 or 14 euro, and OCFA at around 18 or 19. I think it’s bizarre that there is such a discrepancy in the prices. It’s probably nothing to do with the band and more to do with record company/distributers/retailers, but on the point of NANE, I think HMV have overpriced it.

Re: Geeky fact in General Therapy? Topics
My geeky fact: A few months ago someone posted a live gig of Therapy? in Aalborg around 1992 or so. The song “Skinning Pit” had a sample from the British movie “If…” which went “What I’d really hate is to have a nail banged through the back of my neck, slowly.”
Just saw that film on Film4 a while ago, excellent movie.

Sounds very good, myself and my mates’ appetities are whetted around here, looking forward to new album and hopefully a headlining slot in Ireland soon after

Re: New album “Crooked Timber” 23 March 2009 in General Therapy? Topics
Great news, it’s made my day anyhow. Strange to see a Kant quote in there, I spent the last few years studying Kant and I never thought a musical act would use a quote by him. The titles seem snappy!

Re: Therapy? 20th Anniversary! in General Therapy? Topics
I like to see a live DVD featuring Magic tricks by Andy and stand-up routine by Michael. Neil could do announcements and drum-rolls.

I think a cover version of No Limit by 2 Unlimited is called for.
I can just picture Neil and Michael pounding out that rhythm…

Re: Casey Jones Reaction Songs in General Therapy? Topics
yeah it more likely would be “deaf” but I’m almost certain andy sings “death” rather than “deaf”
it seems more likely than “deaf” was on the lyric sheet
But as its a demo, mistakes are bound to be everywhere
I wonder if Martin and Andy were serious about this as a side project, in terms of releasing material, or was it just larking about with songs that didnt “fit” the Therapy sound or were rejects from the Infernal Love sessions

Re: Petition !! in General Therapy? Topics
If anything was released or re-released, I think it would negatively affect the band. If, the people who bought say Troublegum and dont know the band even exist now were to get into the band again, then I think it would just increase the emphasis on Troublegum on the setlist. The argument of re-releasing Babyteeth etc is not a great one to me, they are pretty obscure records and this sort of thing would only appeal to completists.
Look at U2, the supposed biggest band in the world, their re-releases of their first three albums are only bought by the most hardcore of their fans, considering their wide appeal it seems like a bit of a fruitless enterprise and even more so for a band of T?’s scale. So economically there isn’t much of an argument. Artistically, unless the band have an actual problem with Babyteeth et al in their current state, then why bother releasing them? Why rehash?
To be honest I quite like the lo-fi tone and low quality of babyteeth and pleasure death. If everybody’s debut album was re-released because it wasn’t a beefy, sheeny, large-sounding album we would have nothing but re-releases in our record stores

Re: Petition !! in General Therapy? Topics
I dont wanna see another retrospective, at least not yet. I’d rather wait ten years or so for a box of rarities spanning the band’s full career rather than a focus on one album. T? have just released Music From A Cheap Transistor and Webgig recently (remember they didnt get enough votes for any songs of their last album) so I would not be happy if there was such a paucity of new material being released. I want new stuff more than this “golden era” nonsense.
If I remember rightly, the Manics Holy Bible had a completely different American mix, which perhaps was a strong reason to release it to fans.

its funny that everyone is focusing on andy’s hair just because we weren’t given a sample of some new music.
Unless that is the new music…
If so, the drums are a bit low on this one as well ;)

i agree, although i didnt hear it live, when i bought OCFA i put it on my dodgy player and like an idiot turned the volume wayyyy up during Outro thinking there was something wrong… Sprung certainly benefits from that opening!

Re: Casey Jones Reaction Songs in General Therapy? Topics
Marie Celeste lyric attempt:
On the Marie Celeste
I was the only one left
Bruised, buggered and death
Left bleeding to death
On the Marie Celeste
All the others had gone
I was the only one on
Drying dead on the floor
No head for my health
On the Marie Celeste
All my company’s gone
My friends have been torn
Out of my clinging hands
I’m friends with the damned
On the Marie Celeste
There’s no-one else here
My oath disappeared (?)
They were lost in the night
Everything didn’t right
On the Marie Celeste
What do you do if the things that you see
Are suddenly taken away?
Nothing is here but an empty hand
You want a slap in your face
On the Marie Celeste
Marie Celeste
On the Marie Celeste
There was nothing else left
We were put to the test
On the Marie Celeste
Everything was destroyed
Nature used us like toys
Cast us back in it’s face
An awful disgrace
On the Marie Celeste
What do you do when the world you know
Is suddenly taken away?
You scream at yourself but there’s nothing to do
Maybe it should be this way
Maybe you know what you’d take
On the Marie Celeste

Re: Casey Jones Reaction Songs in General Therapy? Topics
Here’s my attempt to but lyrics to Serge, it’s the best i can do
I look through tired red eyes
Inside your way you find you’ll know the way
Only there in-between us
I think of silent things
And everything they bring when you’re meeting me
I can’t hear what you’re saying
I’m listening to you, I’m watching you move
Trying (dying?) to figure my way around the room
I am alone, you’re in-between us
In you an me sometimes
I’ll be there when you mean it
And looking dark inside
That feeling that I know we’ve arrived again
Cold and shiver (…)
Is love for older things
I know that you won’t bring this down to me
This one I won’t believe in
I’m listening to you, I’m watching you move
Trying to find my way around the room
I am alone, this in-between us
Between us
I’ll be there when you mean it
I try wake anyway
I watch you freeze and then waste away
I won’t hear you go when the way? outside you way inside
I squint through tired red eyes
Through something I despise that’s left me here
I can feel it and need it
I take it all away and leave this here but I don’t know next(?)
I just trip when I’m sleeping
I’m listening to you, I’m watching you move
Trying to feel my way around the room
I am alone, this in-between us
In you an me sometimes
I’ll be there when you mean it
