Re: Ronnie Drew RIP in Other Bands & Artists

I love the Dubliners but I wasnt a fan of Ronnie Drew solo. Still, a great legend of a man. His voice on Auld Triangle gives me shivers down the spine

Re: If you could bring a dead rock star back to life in Other Bands & Artists

Kill_Hill is right. In Ireland it was actually cheaper to fly no-frills to Paris to see his gig rather than pay the asking price at his Dublin concerts. I live in Cork and if you include the train fare (60euro return) accomodation (approx 50euro) food (20euro minimum) beer (varies) and the fact that I would have to take two days off work (midweek concert) I would practically be losing several hundred quid just to see Mr Waits.

But back on topic, what about Janis Joplin? she was taken in her prime

Hungover Housemate Awakener in Other Bands & Artists

Im a sadistic bastard at heart, and whenever my housemates are out on the lash and I’m not, I love to wake them early next morning with an great foot-stompin’ fist-in-the-air pumpin’ tune. A few years ago my “wake up everybody and make them hate me” song was Meat Abstract.

I stayed up all last night as I have an assignment due soon, so I’m a bit hyperactive. This morning i woke the sofa-folk with Complete Control by the Clash (as I dance in the middle of the living room obviously to catch a glimpse of the grimaces).

Does anyone else do this or am I the only one?

And has anyone any suggestions of good songs to use?

Good answer Muskeg. He was a star to me

I’d love richey to walk into the studio one day, (nicky laying down some lyrics, james playing a melody, sean warming the stool) and go

“Where did it all go wrong fellahs? By the way guys, where’s my paycheck? I’m off to the Caribbean proper”

Richey Edwards, shake up the manics a bit if he came back. And he’s the most likeliest dead rock star to come back!

Re: I just bought… in Other Bands & Artists

The Clash’s debut. Six euro.

Re: Johnny Rotten on Coldplay… in Other Bands & Artists

An average Coldplay/Snow Patrol et al gig consists of mainly 20,000 couples in the 30-something age bracket snogging to ‘their song’. I do not respect Chris martin for appearing in Extras. It’s the most self-consciously driven guest appearance in the show and the one which is most designed to re-construct a celebrity’s public image.

Re: Graham Hopkins’ new band in Other Bands & Artists

I like their new single, ten times better than what Halite could come up with. Hope it works out for Graham.

Westlife-Allow us to be frank.

Re: The Cooper Temple Clause in Other Bands & Artists

I met the bassist Didz Hammond after a gig we played, he was a complete arse.

Re: Cobain in Other Bands & Artists

When I was in Dublin in 2004 December for the T? gig, I met a bunch of sixteen year olds who thought High Anxiety was their first album (before the gig obviously, i think they would have copped on after the set-list) so T? are still reaching the yoof, but the yoof will forever be naive. I’m nineteen and have been listening to T? for eight years. What does that make me?

Re: The Dandy Warhols in Other Bands & Artists

I think Everyday Should Be A Holiday is a fantastic song. What did everyone think of Dig? I think its an amazing film, but the Dandies come off really badly in it, real hypocrites and really boring compared to Anton’s crew.

Re: “Guns n Roses” To Play Download in Other Bands & Artists

He should have called himself ‘Oral Sex.’ Why have an anagram when thats a cooler name in itself?

Taunty Dan wrote:

well lets be honest, his names in the name, and he did buy the rights to the name, so you can’t say they shouldn’t be called GNR anymore! If thats the case then technically they should’ve dropped the Guns part when Tracii Guns left the band!

I thought the only reason that ‘rose’ was in the title was because they formed from the ashes of LA Guns and Hollywood Rose? Did William Bailey (sometimes hilariously called Bill Bailey) not come up with the pseudonym ‘Axl Rose’ after the band formed?

Nah it will be full of shit dressed up as anger as per usual. I only like Metallica when they arent making music. At least recently.

Re: JJ72 in Other Bands & Artists

I remember hearing one of their new songs, probably their last single. the music, vocals and especially the lyrics were some of the worst I’ve heard from any band this side of the Irish sea.

Re: Another johnny cash song that made me cry in Other Bands & Artists

Rusty cage is his best cover version I think, I love the change in it. Pisses all over Cornell’s ‘emotive’ singing as well which is commendable in my opinion

Re: Queens Of The Stone Age With John Garcia in Other Bands & Artists

Would it really be that much of a cash cow? Id say more money would be made if he just joined the Queens on stage. This whole reforming bands when you have moved on career-wise is beyond me.

Re: So what do you think of Kirk Hammett?? in Other Bands & Artists

Hes a funny guy. Nice skin. Dodgy hair. Probably the most camp out of the four Metallica lads. Nice leather.
