Re: song titles as days of the week in Chit-Chat

Yeah Thursday by Morphine is a great tune, was just listening to it last night after finding the CD after missing it for two years!

What about Bloody Sunday from Stiff Little Fingers? that should get precedence over U2’s overblown bullshit. (ironically, being from the north and quite a political band, SLF’s song is about how boring sunday’s are)

Re: Serious Help Needed!!! in Chit-Chat

what about Movin’ On Up by Primal Scream? I think a bit of funky/gospel-rock/soul would work

Re: Cover of T?-song in General Therapy? Topics

I think a cover version of No Limit by 2 Unlimited is called for.

I can just picture Neil and Michael pounding out that rhythm…

“kilts are better…not that you’d wear one to a job interview of course.”

Unless you are confident in your ability to ‘impress’.

Re: Unemployment in Chit-Chat

I worked for Dunnes as well, they weren’t too bad. I worked for Tescos for a month before being sacked for “bringing down morale”…i’m actually proud of being able to bring down morale in Tescos, as if the working conditions, blue red and white bullshit, compnay policy-spewing managers etc. isnt morale-killing enough

“I can imagine Neal working in a sports shop, Andy as a builder and Mikehell would be an unscrupulous wheeler dealer in mirrored shades”

Haha thats excellent!

Cheers guys for your help. You’re right, a positive attitude is half the battle. For a start I’m going to move to Dublin, as there seems to be more opportunities there than in Cork.

Re: Unemployment in Chit-Chat

Hah I would love to work in a bookshop, i have applied to a good few of them in dublin and cork. I’m finishing up my masters in english lit, which is not very vocational, I’m doing it as a stepping stone to a PhD which I hope to start in spetember 2009. Until then, I need money and I’m pretty destitute. I’m trying to call in my debts, (some pals owe me several hundred quid) but that’s not working either. I have to leave my house in four weeks because of cash flow problems, and for the first time in almost five years I will be going home to live with my dad until I can find work.

I tried signing on once, was more grief than getting a job. i’ve a great work ethic but nobody is willing to give a job to someone with little or no experience. And I don’t wanna wear a suit. I worked in a bank for a few weeks and I hated every minute of it.

Make sure you counter-balance it by investing in a treadmill. Its a great bachelor pastime though. That and everything else that doesnt involve women

Re: Brewing Alcohol at Home in Chit-Chat

I made my own damson and plum wine when i was a teenager, took around eight or nine months though. actually turned out good, bit fruity though. my dad makes poitin and sells it but that doesnt interest me. brewing beer and fermenting wine is more interesting, as your brewing for taste as well. a friend of ours built his own bar in his house, using all his own alcohol, he had to get rid of it after a year because of the damage that ensued. Imagine having beer on tap in your kitchen :)

Re: Casey Jones Reaction Songs in General Therapy? Topics

yeah it more likely would be “deaf” but I’m almost certain andy sings “death” rather than “deaf”

it seems more likely than “deaf” was on the lyric sheet

But as its a demo, mistakes are bound to be everywhere

I wonder if Martin and Andy were serious about this as a side project, in terms of releasing material, or was it just larking about with songs that didnt “fit” the Therapy sound or were rejects from the Infernal Love sessions

Does comedy have genres now? Maybe the whole thing about comedy being the new rock n’ roll is true…

Cosmo Landesman, film critic in The Sunday Times. Not happy with giving The Dark Knight two stars out of five, he gives Hellboy II four out of five and rips into The Dark Knight again… some guys just love to stir the shit

Although I’m sure i will love Hellboy II when i see it

Re: Petition !! in General Therapy? Topics

If anything was released or re-released, I think it would negatively affect the band. If, the people who bought say Troublegum and dont know the band even exist now were to get into the band again, then I think it would just increase the emphasis on Troublegum on the setlist. The argument of re-releasing Babyteeth etc is not a great one to me, they are pretty obscure records and this sort of thing would only appeal to completists.

Look at U2, the supposed biggest band in the world, their re-releases of their first three albums are only bought by the most hardcore of their fans, considering their wide appeal it seems like a bit of a fruitless enterprise and even more so for a band of T?’s scale. So economically there isn’t much of an argument. Artistically, unless the band have an actual problem with Babyteeth et al in their current state, then why bother releasing them? Why rehash?

To be honest I quite like the lo-fi tone and low quality of babyteeth and pleasure death. If everybody’s debut album was re-released because it wasn’t a beefy, sheeny, large-sounding album we would have nothing but re-releases in our record stores

Re: Petition !! in General Therapy? Topics

I dont wanna see another retrospective, at least not yet. I’d rather wait ten years or so for a box of rarities spanning the band’s full career rather than a focus on one album. T? have just released Music From A Cheap Transistor and Webgig recently (remember they didnt get enough votes for any songs of their last album) so I would not be happy if there was such a paucity of new material being released. I want new stuff more than this “golden era” nonsense.

If I remember rightly, the Manics Holy Bible had a completely different American mix, which perhaps was a strong reason to release it to fans.

Thats fucking marvellous. having never heard C.C. Rider before, it was a nice introduction.

Oh one of the audience looks kinda like Michael Winner

Re: week 2 in General Therapy? Topics

its funny that everyone is focusing on andy’s hair just because we weren’t given a sample of some new music.

Unless that is the new music…

If so, the drums are a bit low on this one as well ;)
