Re: Pearl Jam in Other Bands & Artists
They had PJ20 on a PBS (public Broadcasting station) not sure if that’s a bad sign…usually all they play is stuff from old 60s groups that still tour.
…it was cool to watch even though my DVR ran out of space with 10 mins to go. Enjoyed the old footage. Cool to watch Eddie in the rafters.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Got Strung Out’s - Element of SOnic Defiance on vinyl. Great album (EP really but it is 9 songs long). This is where they morphed from skate punk to quasi-thrash. Complex arrangments, and ripping guitars friven along by one of the best drummers going now, and excellent singing..all the while keeping the hooks coming.
This live version of Savant is killer - taken from their Live in a DIve album. ALso on it is the best cover of Bark at the Moon.

Re: Record Store Day 2011 in Other Bands & Artists
So bitter I missed it again! Actually didn;t miss last year, but all the really cool stuff was gone by the time I got there. What Ozzy Albums were re-released?
I just got the Pearl Jam Vs/Vitology Uber-set…well worth it..high quality as usual and a great live double disk included, but pricey. Need tires so may be another month or so before I can splurge on any more vinyl.
But I do have some Amazon bucks coming from my credit card, was planning on getting the slayer box set.

Great album. Also loved that I used to pass the building that was used in the artwork everyday on my way to work when I worked in Arlington,VA. Never did bother to find out what it was though.

(All of which came with MP3 download..always nice)
plus a few 7 incers
The Futureheads-SKip to the End (Never heard of them, but thought I’d take a risk)
Bullet Treatment (some kinda sampler from Fat Wreck Chords records)
New Order- Temptation/Hurt

Megadeth - Endgame (Best album they released since Rust in Peace)
Finally listened to this. Not bad, some great guitar work (of course), but nothing really stuck out. Enough of the phony news clips in the songs already.
Also finally listened to the new Pearl Jam. A couple of really strong tracks, but again nothing exceptional.

Joy Division’s Closer on vinyl. Right now it’s colony. Just finished moving, and today I got to build a bookcase (a disaster) and TV stand (went OK).
Needed something to chill me out after a rough day.

I think my end of the year round up will be a re-release year of cd and dvd’s mostly.
Not really in to the current music scene..
I was tring to think of the best of 2008 and kept coming up with the same problem.
I’m having the worst time thinking of something new I actually bought this year…Most stuff that comes to mind are re-issues. Especially re-issues on vinyl.
I guess Weezer’s Red Album was this year from reading everyone elses posts…but I wasn’t that crazy about it.
The only others I can think of were
Pennywise - Reason to Believe
Metallica - Death Magnetic
In both these cases I was excited because they were better than their last few releases…but when compared to earlier stuff, they’re really only average.
The rest of my list can be labeled “New releases from bands I like, not bad but nothing memorable, good or bad”
Nada Surf - Lucky
Mogwai - The Hawk is Howling
Death Cab for Cutie - Narrow Stairs
I think there was a new Millencolin in there as well.
After that I’m completely blank.

just heard Day and Age - The Killers, im not impressed, i heard it was heading more into Hot Fuss era, which got me excited, but its sounds nothing like it, its very very 80s sounding, there are good moments but to be honest its disappointing :(
Haven’t heard it yet, but the Killers have always been hit or miss.
When they’re strong they’re really strong…but alot of fluff in between the good stuff.
I got hooked on Sam’s Town (the song…not so much the whole album), I loved the vocal melody for the main verses.
And I have to admit, I liked their version of ‘Shadowplay’. Not as good as the original, but they at least tried doing something a little different with it.
I liked the parts around the solo.
My current playlist
Rush supermix (been my go-to “fall asleep” mix lately)
Ramones mix
AC/DC - Back in Black, Dirty Deeds and Highway to Hell…just got them on vinyl.
right now listening to some Pearl Jam

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
Got yet another batch of fresh vinyl. The majors are pumping out a ton of high quality reissues.
Today’s batch:
Megadeth-Peace Sells & Rust in Peace
Metallica- AJFA
Queensryche-Operation Mindcrime.
But the most appropriate for Holloween… Slayer- Hell Awaits! The only album with a legit backwards message…”Join Us! Join Us! Join Us!”
