Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
also with the action as is, it’s better for putting on the fatter strings and tuning down. The strings still ring clear and stay in tune better.

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I haven’t really messed with the saddles etc.. It’s not too high. Just high compared to the 61, bat that’s also because the neck on the ‘61 is different.
I leave it alone because the action as is gives chords great resonance. If I want to play alot of leads I’ll pull out the strat, Les Paul or my old Jackson.

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I’ve got one, the faded Cherry.
FIne guitar. I get great crunch out of it so I can play all kinds of stuff. Where my SG Classic w/ P-90 pickups has a very distinct sound and not ideal for real heavy stuff.
The actions a little bit high but the chords really ring out.
BTW was jamming out to some Ramones on my 61-reissue straight through my Marshall. Perfect match for the tones on “Leave Home” and “Rocket to Russia” sweet!

Re: Gibson SELF-TUNING “Robot Guitar” in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
They’re supposed to have some at the Guitar Center I go to. I’ve got to play with it at least once. But $2100 it a bit steep.

Re: sg owners unite! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
If anyone gets a chance to try one at a shop, check out the Gibson ‘61 SG reissues.
I got one last year, and it’s the best. It’s slimmer than the normal SG, and the cutaway at the bottom of the neck is slightly different, you have no problems get to the upper frets (not that that was much of an issue with normal SGs). Very versatil, can go heavy crunchy, clean or warm and soft with no problem. And the neck is the most comfortable of any SG I’ve played.

Not only that his bottown two strings ( i.e high E and B ) are both an 8
GHS (or is it Dean Markley???) puts out a set of Dave Mustaine signature strings, which are just normal strings but in each pack the guage mix is varied. There’s heavy guage for the wound strings (I think the equivalent of what would normally come with a pack of .10 or .11 guage strings, and the unwound strings are what would come with a pack of .009 guages.) I never really tried mixing and matching like that much. Might be worth a try. You get the heavy strings for fatter chords, but still have the light strings for solos.

Re: Guitar Pro Files in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
It’s a tabliture program with built in sounds effects and different instruments. If you have GP, it will open up sheet tabliture, and you can either print it out, or play it. When you play it, it’s a little like a “follow the bouncing ball”, as it goes down the bars of tabliture, you hear what the notes/chords sound like. You get a better sense of how a song should go versus just reading it out of a magazine and playing.
I personally just suck at getting the timing of the notes down so they’ll play like they are supposed to. (you have to set whole/eighth/quarter note etc).
There’s a bunch of sites out there where nice people like dede73 post these files, so you can download and learn to play different songs…cool stuff

Re: Guitar Pro Files in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Nice job on Suing God! This is the web gig version right?
I was working on the regular version, but I had fits getting the notes to play in the right timing and gave up.
Maybe I’ll see if I can take you version as the foundation and add the album lead parts.
The chorus is slightly different on the album, played with some single notes with the second guitar playing some bends behind it.
I know the notes, I just have the worst time getting the timing to play like I want it.

Re: Help me to buy a guitar… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Ibanez aren’t so bad. I tried one at the shop (not sure of the model but it didn’t have tremolo so it had great sustain) it played great and was cheap too around $350.
There was one from the early 90s I loved but couldn’t afford it at the time. Alex Skolnick used to play it, it had a reversed headstock. Can’t remember the model though.

Re: Hardest Song to Play in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
the chorus for Screamager is a pain for me as well to play and sing.
I seem to have the most trouble when the timing on the vocal melody is substantially off from the guitar picking rhythm.
I always end up botching on or the other, depending on which part I concentrate on.
Nausea is a much busier song but I have no trouble with that one.

A ton of great T? tabs and GP files
Finally downloaded Guitar Pro. Great program! zI’ll have to get better at it, and post a few T? songs here.
If anyone here (dede73?) posted any of the guitar pro files on that site…well done! Drum tracks and everything..very impressive!

Re: Best guitar in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I’ve got 3 SGs versus 1 strat and 1 Les Paul, so I guess they win by default.
I hate these questions though, All three are great it just depends what I need at the moment.

Re: Guitar in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Before panicing and looking for repairs & adjustments,
next time you change strings:
1) make sure to stetch the strings while tighting them..
while you’re tightening the string use your other hand to hold the string back and slowly increase the amount of resistance. Just be careful not to overdo it and pop the string. Put enough pressure so you can feel the resistance in the tuning screw. This helps them stay in tune longer.
2) Also make sure to wrap the string around the nut a few times (a minimum of two) before threading it through the whole. Be sure to leave some slack as well.
These two things not only are free and easy, but have a big impact.
If these things don’t work look to the advice given by Dandev51 and josepholney.

Re: I finds bending painful man! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I wonder if Andy uses .12s on all his guitars. I know why he’d use them when he tunes down because they stay in tune longer (and are pretty easy to bend)
If uses them on his standard tuned guitars he must have some ham hands :D

That was a Hamer Studio Pro equipped with a Floyd Rose tremolo. (They normally don’t come with a tremolo)
I’ve been looking for one in the shops, but can’t find them..very expensive! But I’d really like to play one.

Re: amps in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I’ve got a Marshall JCM 2000 line TSL122 combo. At 100Watts is more than loud enough, unless you are playing to a big hall. I like the power cutting button, which kicks the output down to about 30% normal, but it cooks the tubes more so you get a fatter sound.
The clean is really nice on it as well. Playing either my SG Special w/P-90s or Strat using the neck pick-ups sound real warm (sound especially cool through a uni-vibe).
Little pricey though around $1100 a year or so ago.

Re: Andy’s Les Paul in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I’ve got an SG Special w P-90s and a Les Paul Classic, and they are VERY different sounding. Not all Gibson’s sound the same.
I’ve got three differnt types of Gibsons and they are all very unique sounding, especially the SG w/P-90s.
Definitely try the different types of LPs, to make sure you get the one with tone you like best. You may want to try an LP-Studio. They’re a step up from the Fadeds etc, and have a similar tone to the LP Standard, but are cheaper than the Classics and Standards.
Due to the different hardware(the metal versus ceramic pick-ups), there’s a wide range of tones across the LPs.
The action may play the same, but they will sound different.
Don’t necessarily get one just because someone else has it. Try it out on your gear (or something comperable) first. You could end up buying one guitar, get it home, and have it sound nothing like you’d hoped. (You sound like you know what you’re doing, but when you’re talking that kind of money, it never hurts to repeat it)

Re: Calling All Guitarists… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
It sounds a little like a uni-vibe vibrato. The uni-vibe has both vibrato and leslie effect(rotary). The vibrato has a much smoother warmer tone and modulation to it than most “Vibrato” pedals which tend to be kind of harsh.
but I couldn be typing out my bung

Re: The Most Fun T? Song To Play On Guitar…? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Nausea & Brainsaw!! Just slam out those main riffs. Simple but sound great.
Other fun ones
Trigger Inside, Opal Mantra, Screamager, Our Love Must Die, Suing God, Sister, 10 Yr Plan, Isolation, Stories, Die Laughing, Femtex, Turn, Perversonality, Unbeliever, Potato Junkie, Skyward
I don’t bother with too much of the later stuff, too lazy to retune the guitar, but when I do,
Rock You Monkeys, Dead, If It Kills Me
