Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat
I think the last one I went to was Iron Maiden at the NIA in Birmingham.
Very good, but I’d love to have seen them somewhere less soulless.
Before that…I think it was Adam Ant at the O2 in Brum.. very, very good. Legend. Relied very heavily on his first album - which is a good thing, I should add. Stripped down, punky, rock n roll. Cack version of YMCA though - changed to A.N.T.S. :D Knobhead!

Currently reading Bill Bryson - A Short History of Nearly Eveyrthing. Fascinating stuff.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat
I did indeed. I thought it was really good. They’d changed a few things here and there from the books and it all seemed a bit rushed with each book compressed into two episodes, but despite that they did a good job of it. What did you think?

Having upset my girlfriend by going off for the weekend with the cute girl at work and some other friends, I’m finally (semingly) forgiven by my girlfriend but the cute girl at work is barely talking to me - the minimum necessary to keep a working relationship going (thankfully, given that we work together), but aside from that is really acting in an unfriendly manner. Given that the trip away cost a few quid and a massive row, I’m inclined to think she’s being a cow. If there’s something more behind it, I buggered if I know what >:-(
Come on, you’re amongst friends now…there’s more to this story, isn’t there…?

Nope, he’s on a fairly long UK tour at the moment - must be the biggest tour he’s done for years and years

Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat
Adam Ant last night.
Set was loaded towards the earlier stuff, which is no bad thing, though it did mean I didn’t know quite a few of the songs. He’s on good form though and he’s still a great frontman, even if he is dangerously close to being a cross between Alan Carr and Benny Hill these days.

Manic Street Preachers at Wolves Civic last Thursday - excellent, band’s on top form
Rush at NEC last night - Also very, very good. But what’s the point of paying through the nose for a seat when every c*nt stands up?!

Oops just noticed the b/d greetings.
Many thanks everyone!

But without the footnotes it would pretty much just be the transcripts to three live shows, in which case you may as well watch the DVDs ;)
Am very happy to know that there’s another Jackson Brodie book - will have to snaffle it from my mum’s at the weekend (shh). Was the other one you read Behind the Scenes at the Museum? That was terrible (not that I read beyond the first 40 pages or so).
I think the book I didn’t like was Emotionally Weird. Which is such a crap name for a book it would have had to have been outstandingly brilliant to even get the balance back to zero, never mind get into plus figures.
As for Stewart Lee and the footnotes, this is quite true. Fortunately, I’ve not seen much of his stand-up stuff so a lot of this is new to me.
I DID see the routine in his last series where he went on about political correctness, which was sublime.
Interesting to read about his deliberately slow delivery and how he is as interested in the art of what he does as well as just the “jokes” themselves, for want of a better word.

New series of Stewart Lee’s Comedy Vehicle on BBC2 tonight :-)
Any good? As you might spot in the “What’s everybody reading?” thread, I’m halfway through his book.
Wanted to watch this but way too late for how tired I was last night. Will try to iPlayer it, if it’s there.
Next spot of watching will be some old Doctor Whos I got on DVD for my buffdee - Tom Baker and Jon Pertwee eras we’re talking here.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat
Ah but Hooch, you need to read the latest one too - called something daft like Started Early, Took The Dog. Also features Jackson Brodie.
I do like the Kate Atkinson ones with him in, didn’t like the other KA one I read…I forget what it was called though… Was a bit too “girly”, for want of a much better description.
I am currently reading Stewart Lee (him of Fist of Fun/ Lee And Herring fame) - “How I Escaped My Certain Fate: The Life and Deaths of a Stand-Up Comedian”.
Interesting and veyr clever, just not sure it’s easy to warm to him as a person. And his use of extensive footnotes on almost every single page is starting to get very annoying, although I am sure if I ever wrote a book I would find myself doing the same thing…

Currently working our way through series 2 of Ashes To Ashes on DVD, and watched Ocean’s 11 last night too - i.e. the remake with Pitt and Clooney and all that malarky.
Went to the flicks to see Never Let Me Go on Saturday. Very good, did a good job of capturing the mood of the book.

Black Label Society at the O2 Academy in Birmingham, Monday night.
Very good - very professional band, pretty good sound. Zakk looked a little like he was going through the motions at times, maybe he’s more subdued without the beer, I dunno.
Good gig all the same.

LOL yeah I don’t mind a bit of The Cult meself, to be honest. I just couldn’t stand there for a whole evening’s worth of I(ndi)an Astbury’s between-song banter. The music’s good but…well he’s just a tit, isn’t he?

Given that most of a haggis is oats anyway, the veggie ones ARE almost identical in taste.
It was a veggie one I was after myself in aforemention haggis/ shop not having any/ Scottish woman on till scenario shocker.

Back to the effing burglars of doom, some of you might have seen they went on to my mum’s and my brother’s Facebook pages and posted loads of random shite. Bit stupid, as now police are trying to track them down via the IP address. Anyway, mum was worried as she also had her WoM password saved so she’s asked me to tell you in case anyone’s had a random PM or summat. I’ve locked her account for now anyway.
Yes I heard about this. Baaaarstids.
Your mum text me an alternate email address to contact her on, but like a knob I deleted the text before I noted down the address. Would you mind PM’ing me it?
