Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat

Yes, but I get bored of the articles about sports cars soon enough and get back to looking at the naked women instead

Re: Gracious me… in Chit-Chat

Yes. It’s either that or risk something more exotic from the menu, such as them new “potato” thingumajigs or them weird looking orange crunchy things that they keep trying to tell me have some special magic in that makes you see better and such nonsense

Anyhoo, off home now, I already did half an hour over just for fun.

Re: Squall has a new job ! in Chit-Chat

My wife is 28 next month and STILL gets asked for ID in the supermarket when she tries to buy fags.

I get very irate (once I have left the supermarket, of course, I mean, I wouldn’t actually really in real life you know complain or anything…) cos what does that make ME if she’s underage?!

Barstids.

Re: Gracious me… in Chit-Chat

No. Groaty Pud is something I have only ever heard of at the Black Country Museum, so as far as I know it isn’t something anyone actually eats these days, whereas I have actually been served dead-body-coloured peas festering in rancid pigmeat juice, which is the best way I can describe gray pays un bearcun bits, which was very nice indeed of the spiteful person who dolloped it out onto my plate.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat

I am reading Blur bassist Alex James’ autobiography “Bit of a Blur”

Very well written and quite interesting so far, although like most such books it races through the story way too fast to include enough detail.

I bought it one night last week on the way home from work and the next day I got a text from a mate I haven’t heard from in months asking me, out of the blue, “have you read Alex James’ book? Do you know if it’s any good?” Fucking spooky.

Re: Gracious me… in Chit-Chat

Yes, grey peas and bacon

(note you have to pronouce “peas” as “pays” so it rhymes with “grey” = “grey pays and bear-cun bits”)

Every bit as delicious and nutricious as it sounds.

One of the only foods known to man that looks BETTER after you have sicked it up than it did when it was slowly corroding the plate you served it on.

Re: Whats the next gig you want to go to? in Chit-Chat

Can’t go, I am away camping yet again.

They should have done that June 5th one, I was free then.

But yeah, good advice about the slug problem in here.

Mind, for years I just thought it was d’s slobbering that left those sticky trails on the floor…

*emotionless*

I suppose their bodies will never be found and those who miss them will never get the closure that can only come from finally getting the phone call that they secretly dread…

Mm. So, what’s for tea?

I suppose it makes sense - if you aren’t old enough to have credit, you aren’t old enough to give credit.

Note to anyone yet to get a credit card:

DON’T!

I dread to think which part of him goes into making those strange knobbly things they sell in the supermarket grocery section…

Kneecaps? Elbows…?

Jesus, how many limbs has the fucker GOT?!*

(*well, technically it would be HAD rather than HAS GOT by the time Asda are rolling them back)

*secures tarpaulin with rope, and attaches weights to end of the rope*

*with one determined shove pushes tarpaulin overboard and, expressionless, watches it sink without a trace*

Well they do say one tends to fall for people who are on the same general level of attractiveness. Or lack thereof.

Legally, to serve drinks, yes.
But it’s considered age discrimination if they don’t consider under 18s.
Graeme is exactly right, it’s glass collecting. Not a nice job, but it pays and once you’ve worked in one bar you can walk into any basically.

In fact, from the pub’s point of view getting glass collectors who ARE too young to serve the drinks is good business sense, as the whole minimum wage thing means they can be paid loads less, whilst for the youngsters themselves it is GREAT to have such “huge” amounts of money to spend on Pokemon stickers and/ or crystal meth.

Re: Unemployment in Chit-Chat

I don’t envy you.

Pretty much every job I have ever had I fell into almost by accident, so I can’t say I have been through this kind of thing. I am very lucky, hopefully you’ll get some of that kind of luck too.

I do think Mrs H’s idea of approaching an agency is a good idea. At the very least, if there is something major that you don’t realise or have overlooked they will be able to point it out and make suggestions.

Re: Unemployment in Chit-Chat

I don’t wish to be rude to anyone here, but if you are constantly getting turned down for jobs, there must be a reason.

Now, that could be down to:

1. How you present yourself at interviews - not just clothes but also your manners and mannerisms, the answers you give, your attitude etc

2. Skills you lack. Now, it may be a good idea to step back from the process and say “well, what are they looking for that I am not offering them?” You might even be able to identify specific skills you can obtain from a course at a local college. Just as an example, say you were going for a load of jobs in offices and getting nowhere, you might want to consider expanding your computer skills, familiarise yourself with specific software packages that are widely used and so on.

PLEASE note, I am NOT having a go at any individuals on here! I am just saying that it sucks that you are banging your head against a brick wall, but maybe rather than slog your guts out trying to get jobs you are never going to get, maybe you could have a fresh look at the whole thing, take a step back and make a few major but simple changes that could help.

had an interview today - very informal - exact same experience as WHSmith - thought id pop in a day early to check the times - the manager said ” ooops i forgot to tell you - i cant interview yuo tomorrow - do you mind having a chat now instead ? ”

It was very informal - i tried to be as informative and enthusiastic as I could. I think it went well - but I am 100% fully prepared to get the ” after careful consideration ” letter. :’(

After careful consideration ..they ought to sack the manager - he doesn’t sound very organised

Re: George Bush in Chit-Chat

Yes I imagine it is pretty much impossible to travel through Wales and not see the results of the damage caused by our first female PM.

I think there is a lesson to be learned there, don’t you? In much the same way I would always recommend that women aren’t encouraged to drive motor vehicles or select TV channels, etc.

Re: George Bush in Chit-Chat

I am not interested in what politicians say at all.

This is not an exaggeration or an example of crass naivety, but the honest truth is that I cannot once recall ever hearing a politician say something that I both (a) agreed with and (b) believed they were genuinely in a position to put into practice and were actually planning to do so.
