Re: The Future of Music in Other Bands & Artists
Seems like a bit of a far-fetched scenario just cos one of iffy production job on a Metallica album.

Here’s an example:
“Have you seen how much Lars sticks his tongue out and fucking pants all the time cos he is so old and can’t keep up with his own drumming these days…?”

Re: Serious Help Needed!!! in Chit-Chat
What’s wrong with a bit of Barry White - You’re The First, The Last, My Everything?
You can always claim it is ironic and all post-Ally McBeal, even though it’s just a good song anyway that would be fun.
Barry White DIED when I was on honeymoon. We saw the news on TV in the hotel. I hope it doesn’t signify anything (other than the fact that he was bloody ill, of course.)

Re: This or that thread in Chit-Chat
Depends entirely on the bonus material.
I prefer the jewel case idea of actually having a case in ten years’ time, rather than a pile of mashed up cardboard, but there have been some great bonus tracks/ DVD’s lately.
So, personally I’d always buy the ltd edition version over the regular, common or garden, pleb’s version.
Live concert DVD or promo vid compilation DVD?

Re: Serious Help Needed!!! in Chit-Chat
I think Marja is right - a more upbeat song could work very well. And remember, it’s your day so any notion of what you “should” do goes out of the window, just so long as you and Mrs you are happy.

Re: This or that thread in Chit-Chat
I whacked myself in the balls (by accident, of course) recently for the first time in years…I had forgotten quite how deep, hollow and just plain HUGE the pain is.
So for that reason, I’d rather have a black eye I can blame on walking into a door. That’s what I get my wife to tell people, anyway.
Your favourite band to split up at the height of their game or to carry on and do some good but not great albums that erode some of their mystique and mystery?

Manics doing Can’t Take My Eyes Off You?
I imagine there will be drippy couples up and down the country this/ next year dancing to James Morrison and his ilk, but I dare say that isn’t quite what you have in mind…!

maybe they have an inclining my wife is old enough and hence she WILL have ID, problem solved, whereas they fear you may not have ID which would put them in the tricky situation of having to refuse you service, which is usually too much for a panicked jobsworth minimumwager to cope with.

Re: This or that thread in Chit-Chat
Death Magnetic.
CI has the far superior musicianship and recording, and I WANT to like it more…but the songs just aren’t as good as DM.
Load or Death Magnetic?

Yes. It’s either that or risk something more exotic from the menu, such as them new “potato” thingumajigs or them weird looking orange crunchy things that they keep trying to tell me have some special magic in that makes you see better and such nonsense
Anyhoo, off home now, I already did half an hour over just for fun.

Re: Squall has a new job ! in Chit-Chat
My wife is 28 next month and STILL gets asked for ID in the supermarket when she tries to buy fags.
I get very irate (once I have left the supermarket, of course, I mean, I wouldn’t actually really in real life you know complain or anything…) cos what does that make ME if she’s underage?!
Barstids.

They are a death metal band! I thought they liked the pale hue of corpsepaint…?!

Re: Gracious me… in Chit-Chat
No. Groaty Pud is something I have only ever heard of at the Black Country Museum, so as far as I know it isn’t something anyone actually eats these days, whereas I have actually been served dead-body-coloured peas festering in rancid pigmeat juice, which is the best way I can describe gray pays un bearcun bits, which was very nice indeed of the spiteful person who dolloped it out onto my plate.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat
I am reading Blur bassist Alex James’ autobiography “Bit of a Blur”
Very well written and quite interesting so far, although like most such books it races through the story way too fast to include enough detail.
I bought it one night last week on the way home from work and the next day I got a text from a mate I haven’t heard from in months asking me, out of the blue, “have you read Alex James’ book? Do you know if it’s any good?” Fucking spooky.

Re: Gracious me… in Chit-Chat
Yes, grey peas and bacon
(note you have to pronouce “peas” as “pays” so it rhymes with “grey” = “grey pays and bear-cun bits”)
Every bit as delicious and nutricious as it sounds.
One of the only foods known to man that looks BETTER after you have sicked it up than it did when it was slowly corroding the plate you served it on.

Can’t go, I am away camping yet again.
They should have done that June 5th one, I was free then.
But yeah, good advice about the slug problem in here.
Mind, for years I just thought it was d’s slobbering that left those sticky trails on the floor…

I suppose their bodies will never be found and those who miss them will never get the closure that can only come from finally getting the phone call that they secretly dread…
Mm. So, what’s for tea?

I suppose it makes sense - if you aren’t old enough to have credit, you aren’t old enough to give credit.
Note to anyone yet to get a credit card:

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists
No I think that’s all fair comment.
It’s not a perfect album, and they are far from a perfect band. I can see your point of view and at the end of the day it’s all down to taste really, isn’t it? I can see the shortcomings of the album, but I like it all the same, whereas you don’t. Fair enough. I don’t think it’s as good as some of the excitable stuff I have read (and, admittedly, typed myself!) but then it’s not as bad as some of the slagging off it’s getting either.
I like Fatboy’s point that it doesn’t MATTER if it’s not as good as MoP or AJFA. An album doesn’t have to be the best thing EVER by a band for it to be good, nor does it have to be the ultimate statement and masterpiece of their oeuvre to justify it’s existance.
We all long to hear fantastic, Earth-shatteringly GREAT albums, us music types, but there’s plenty of room in the world for records that are just “quite good really, actually”.
