Re: Therapy? @ HMV forum 19th november 2010 in Therapy? Live

Evening/morning all. Utterly irregular poster on here (in every sense of the word) - can’t get to the B&G unfortunately, in fact I’ll be cutting it a bit fine to make it to the venue for 8-something (though obviously hitting the bevvies on the way), but just wanted to wish you all a fine session beforehand. See you (or not) somewhere down the front. Bring it on!

Re: T? vids on youtube in General Therapy? Topics

G’day all,

I’ve just unearthed the T? “MTV Live ‘n’ Direct” performance from St. Patrick’s Day 1997 and put it on YouTube in three parts as follows:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=_SYmZfk1T0A
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=any00Nd8_tw
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=GWmsFKmRBes

As with my previous uploads, the quality is about what you’d expect from an ooooold video tape, but better that than nothing at all I suppose!

Re: T? vids on youtube in General Therapy? Topics

Way to make my first post on this forum in several years. :-D

I’ve just been rescuing some T? stuff from decaying old videotapes and I thought I might as well chuck it on YouTube as well. I’m too lazy and impatient to read through the rest of this thread, so there’s every chance this material is already out there - I know the Brixton gig exists in full on torrents, for example - but I figured what the hell, better something exists several times in cyberspace than not at all. :)

I’ve had to split the longer stuff because of YouTube’s 10-minute limit, unfortunately. If anyone does want the full files I’m sure I could stick them on Megaupload or something…

This is what’s up there:

Therapy? live @ Brixton 1994 (as broadcast on “625 Live” as part of Channel 4’s “Late Licence”):
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=j4Ad62H3mNY (Part 1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qhDppQRzZQs (Part 2)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nA5OpoCwz5E (Part 3)

Therapy? feature on “Noisy Mothers” from 1994:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=tDt8AzMW8mM (Part 1)
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=upfjtl-mOKk (Part 2)

Therapy? performing “Bad Mother” live on ITV’s “Hotel Babylon” in early 1996:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6X8jtekG9PY

Please note that the sound and picture quality are about what you’d expect of video recordings that have been sat in an attic, a garage, a spare room and several removal vans over the years!

YouTube’s standard quality in particular renders them pretty blurry, but you can click on “high quality” for the real deal…

Re: IBAN Payments…??? in Chit-Chat

IBAN and BIC is all my bank needs for charge-free transfers within the EU these days… now maybe that’s just my bank, but I’m sure that was the whole reason they wanted to popularise the IBAN/BIC system in the first place… strange.

Re: Isis in Other Bands & Artists

Been wondering about Isis for a while, as a big fan of the Godspeed boys and their various side projects. I get the impression - rightly or wrongly - that Isis are rather heavier, though?

And did you also feel the love in the air at the gig? :)

Ah, so that’s what that smell was…

By the way, happy birthday Meenzer.

Cheers :)

Recently re-bought it on cd. Back then MJ was a famous singer you know, not just a kiddie-fiddler.

Same here.

Same first album, I mean, not… oh never mind. :o

Re: Hamburg, 12.11. in Therapy? Live

I’d say that review gets it pretty much 100% right, yep. I mean, in terms of judging the atmosphere and the performance, not in terms of spelling the song titles correctly. :)

Re: Hamburg, 12.11. in Therapy? Live

Just got online for the first time since the gig on Friday. Coincidentally, the hearing has just returned to my right ear.

It was a good ‘un, wasn’t it? :)

Re: Brits in Iraq in Chit-Chat

I think we’re arguing the same thing from different angles really. Just a crying shame there’s no decent political opposition to stop it having to come down to the question of us plebs revolting in the first place.

Re: Brits in Iraq in Chit-Chat

Well let’s see, that would require a decent section of the population actually getting up off their lazy, ready meal-fed arses and caring about something more than what’s happening on Coronation Street this week…

I’m not exactly optimistic.

I’m 25 and I blame the “Opal Mantra” TOTP appearance. :)

Re: Ou est la plume de matente ? in Chit-Chat

“Où est la plume de ma tante?” simply means “Where is my aunt’s pen?”, I think. As far as I know it’s just meant to be an example of the kind of hackneyed and fundamentally useless phrase you used to get taught at school when learning the basics of French… a bit like Eddie Izzard’s infamous “Le singe est dans l’arbre”.

“Plume” is kind of an archaic word though.

Oh yeah, absolutely. And the way he pronounces it “pre-SENTS” to force the rhyme. Classic Bayley-era Maiden. :D

Another peach:

The rats in the cellar

The rats in the cellar
You know who you are
The rats in the cellar
You know who you are
The rats in the cellar
You know who you are

Nothing beats chinese food.

There’s an excellent takeaway in Düsseldorf about 50 miles from where I live and it’s close to a decent concert venue, the zakk. Every time we’re going to see a band there, we have to stop for a meal.

There’s a Chinese restaurant in Germany that doesn’t use the same sauce for every single dish? I’m shocked

Re: Evening all! in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

I can imagine it’s not the kind of opinion you’d offer freely in Dutch company, no. :) Berlin is great, been there a few times over the summer and it was the only other place I would have considered moving after my time in Mainz… I can see myself ending up there for a year or two some time further down the line, if only because that’s how long it’d take to discover all the shabby pubs and backstreet clubs :)

Enough said? :)

Hard to pick a favourite, inevitably… Microserfs, Generation X and Girlfriend… are all great, but I think Life After God is the one that hits hardest with me. Which also makes it the most difficult one to read, if that makes sense. Haven’t got hold of Eleanor Rigby yet - might wander into town later to see if they’ve got it in the one bookshop with a vaguely decent English-language section. Failing that, I suppose it’s Amazon again…

Re: Cologne gig in Therapy? Live

My abiding memory of the Markthalle is sticky floors. I’ll be faintly disappointed if they’ve actually cleaned the place up a bit in the meantime.

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat

Just ploughing through Douglas Coupland’s “Life After God” for the umpteenth time. It’s great to dip into every now and then.

Hm, so it seems. :)

What made me move to Germany? Hm. Well, I studied languages (French and German) at uni, with no particular aim in mind. Came to Hamburg for my ‘year abroad’ in ‘99/’00 and fell in love with the place so vowed to come back here after graduation. Ended up moving to somewhere rather further south because it offered a decent translation job and some mates with a spare room, but now I’m back in Hamburg. Why I like the place so much? No idea. Maybe I just like disproving the Teutonophobic Brits thing. :)

Bah. And I woulda gotten away with it if it wasn’t for you pesky kids, etc.

Favourite album? Impossible question really, it can be anything from Disintegration or Ágætis byrjun to Strapping Young Lad’s City depending on the day, the weather, my mood, what the neighbours are playing that I have to try and drown out, etc. Favourite T? album is Suicide Pact, anyway.

Just got my grubby mits on NANE yesterday, given it a few spins now and I’m impressed. They sound tight, focused, and I reckon it’s the best set of songs since Suicide Pact. So definitely looking forward to the Hamburg gig to see how the new stuff sounds live. :)

Damn you for fooling me. :D

I aim to confuse. :) I lived in Mainz for three years before moving (back) to Hamburg this year, and much as I love it up here in the rainy north, I like the “Meenzer” name so it just kind of stuck.

Thanks for the welcome. I promise I won’t accidentally raise the average sanity level. :)

Re: Stromberg or We finally got The Office in Chit-Chat

Stromberg… fairly promising start, I thought, at least by the low standards of German TV comedy. But then it’s not like they had to work hard to come up with the idea. :) It’s well-executed though, and as you say, far better than trying to localise and dub The Office (and no doubt failing miserably as usual - you pay your translators peanuts, you get monkeys…)
