You folk out there who have the Slipknot album already…Any good?

I’m enjoying it and i’m not really a fan… i’ve liked the odd song but never enjoyed a whole album of theirs before. The DVD that comes with it is cool, i’ve always enjoyed watching the making of albums.

The New Haunted album is fucking brilliant, only have the promo at the moment but i will certainly get the proper thing when it comes out.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

They did it in 91 when they had the listening party at Madison Square Garden and charged nothing. I’m quite sure with these things the record company has sorted something out with the venue… they don’t pay for the hire this time, but the venue still gets money from food and drink. Then the band will more than likely come back and play that venue at one point and give a bigger cut to the venue to make up for it… its good for both parties.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

Could just be the record company set the price… i’ve seen a few releases come in Digipacks and regular jewel cases and charge more for the Digi, don’t know why… just a way to make real collectors to buy it twice.. which is very cunty. Not standing up for Metallica, but they may not have anything to do with the price. Trent from NIN had a big go about that with his releases as the record company was doing the same.

Heard a few more snippets of the album here and there, some of the bits do sound really cool and have a bit more edge to them… so the album may end up being very good. Then again they could just be a really good 20secs from a otherwise shit 8 minute song ;)

Re: Carcass in Other Bands & Artists

Myspace.com/carcass

Well depends which album really, they started out as Grindcore like Napalm Death, then went more straight death metal.. Heartwork was more Melodic compared to the other albums and the last album went more in a rock.metal direction. But they are amazing, if your a drummer Ken did some cool stuff and had a bit of a weird style i used to feel.

Re: QOTSA - Era Vulgaris in Other Bands & Artists

I would say he can sing, The first three albums probably show that the most… always seems in tune to me, he has quite a smooth style to his singing and not the hugest range as far as he doesn’t really sing low stuff like Lanagen could. But for someone who originally didn’t want to be a singer but just did it for his solo album which became the first album i think he is very good.
I don’t agree with the one dimentional comment, yes at one point they had three singers so gave the albums and songs greater variation.. but they still do very interesting and unexpected things with their songs and arrangements. LTP really wasn’t their best album as it had songs that were just filler and could have been left off and it was the first since the debut album to just have josh singing so it was missing the more punk screams of nick, but the new one i do still stand by as a really good album… it was a change, had a very unique sound and strong sounds. But this is all my opinion so doesn’t mean i right, just think their are far more one dimentional bands out there and wish more bands were doing as half as interesting stuff that the Queens do. Josh has gone very much up his own arse though. It was more fun when they kept the egos in check and just partied and laid waste to everywhere as they went.. but thats how bands go as they get bigger i guess?

Re: Carcass in Other Bands & Artists

I saw the details for the last two reissues, i’m Looking forward to them. Reek will come in some “Gore Bag” as they descibe it with Demos of the album 13 tracks… never know they could be better quality ;) wonder if they will do anything to clean up the sound of the recording, would be nice but to be honest when things are that distorted then there isn’t much you can do.. and they may not have the multi track any more anyway. Sickness has five demos from the album coming with it. Still cool.. i am guessing they really don;t have that much worthy extras to put on these things. Jeff did mention ages ago there was a cool recording of a gig from the Heartwork tour.. don’t know if it will ever see the light of day, unless thats being kept as an extra if they do a new live DVD?

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Gahans solo stuff I don’t mind, the first one had some good tracks but it was quite patchy but i think he was trying a bit too hard to not sound like DM. The new one is a bit more electronic and has stronger songs i would say the first song on the album and the single Kingdom i love. The main problem i have with it is that too many of the tracks he gets one rhythm or looped melody and thats it for the whole song so it doesn’t develop or really go anywhere.. so the stand out tracks stand out a lot the others i end up skipping these days.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

The first four DM albums I don’t listen to that much, good for a bit of 80’s cheese now and then… but they each have some cool stand out tracks. From a professional point of view they pushed the bounds sound wise and technology of the time which i find interesting. From BC onwards they started to get into darker territory and I’ve enjoyed all the albums since then.. Violator, SOFD and Ultra I think are just genius albums.. I actually got quite into Exciter its more the Martin Gore tracks that he sings that let it down. I’m looking forward to see what their new album next year will be like! It should be good they are pretty consistent these days, they take their time and move the sound on with each release.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

I do like Metallica they are still one of my favourite bands, I remember my brother getting me into them by constantly playing MOP and AJFA when i was in my GNR period and going off to buy Kill em all and being obsessed with it. But i was disappointed with the black album, it had some classic songs and it was good they were more to the point than justice and the production was spot on… but I felt there was too much filler, through the never and struggle within in my opinion are pretty shit songs. Saying that the tour round that album was brilliant still one of the best shows i’ve seen. I actually didn’t mind the load album when it came out, but got bored quickly.. reload was even worse but between the two they could have made one solid album instead of pollishing turds… again the gigs for that tour were excellent as well. But every time i saw them after that they really weren;t that good and started to tread the same ground and get dull… more interesting bands starting coming out and i stopped caring about them. I was one of the few people who seemed to like St Anger, given the songs were all too long but I liked that it sounded different for once and they were trying something new… even the production didn’t bother me as i am bored of over produced album and thought at least it could help reinvent themselves. The surprise gig at download and the one at Earls court were both great gigs and they were playing old faster stuff again… but the last time i saw them play at Download when they did the whole of MOP i pretty much decided that i don;t need to see them again, they play the songs well but thats all they do…metallica by numbers. So i do hope the new album is this amazing album that shows they can write good songs that are exciting and prove they can still compete with the new bands coming through… but they have got a bit stuck in their ways and Lars really doesn’t help as his drumming does limit them a lot. I just hope that Cyanide isn;t the best song on the album and thats why they played it because if it is then i will be disappointed again.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

They have been going since, 1998… i only found out he had a band when i saw them play live while i was in America once and bought the CD at the concert.
They have a myspace page
http://www.myspace.com/theoryofruin
The Counter Culture Nosebleed Album is really good, he keeps saying in interviews they will do another album soon but their last release was an E.P in 2004.. but they still do the odd gig. Guess he is busy with his studio now he has it up and running.

That is an ace album - I had Hate Songs on yesterday… which was also nice!

Fudge Tunnel are one of my fav bands, i just have a lot of respect for Alex Newport. I’ve been on a proper kick for weeks, playing all their albums and the nailbomb stuff… sort of inspiring me to do a new musical project. Because of the nailbomb stuff i have been getting back into sepultura and soulfly again.

Have you heard Alexs band he does these days Theory of Ruin? its some cool stuff.

Re: Carcass in Other Bands & Artists

Some of the footage on their myspace page is really good.. Ken is having way more fun then anyone else at the gig.
The chick from Arch Enemy is fucking annoying on Incarnated Solvent Abuse, she just seems to scream through the whole thing and makes no actual need for being there?

Re: I just bought… in Other Bands & Artists

I didn’t think the band dismissed it… Bill was gutted that the engineer fucked it up but Jeff still seems to claim its his fav, and was originally saying he would only reform if they just did played stuff off that album.. but he does seem to enjoy talking a lot of shit :D

I quite like the album but the recording does seem to vary from just about listenable to shit.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists

It’s an ok song, it meanders a bit here and there and I’m not too sure about the lyrics. It’s just not that exciting a song, but i will leave my judgement till i hear the album as it could be better on record.

@ Divers: the Swansong documentary interview? I’m open to the idea to be honest, as long as they did a good job which I’m confident they would.

I haven’t got the Swansong re-release yet so haven;t seen the interview. I saw this in some mag over here, he was saying that he has sort of got his passion for that style of music back again after all these years of being burnt out by it and is just having so much fun doing it again. But its sort of Jeff and Mikes baby now so whatever happens with Carcass is down to them really.

Re: Carcass in Other Bands & Artists

Sam did you see the latest interview with Bill, I sort of hope it doesn’t happen.. but concidering they said they would never reform and they did i wouldn’t be surprised if they did do a new album.. bill said its really up to Jeff and Mike, and Mikes mentioned before that Bill was showing him riffs and Songs that weren’t used from the Heartwork period.
Its cool to get to see them, but i do think its been too long to try and relive past glories by doing new material.

Its off the dark medivil album which is one of their old ones… the new EP sounds pretty much like the last album.

My comp is coming, i keep changing my mind… it was just straight bizarre and unlistenable at one point, then just heavy… but i think i’ve gone into old git mode instead. So it will be up soon.

Re: New Anthrax in Other Bands & Artists

I’m really not sure anymore… i love Anthrax, bush era is the best by far but the joey stuff was something of my youth. Basically they should have not stopped for the easy money, i have no real opinion on the new bloke as i feel they are trying to hard. I will buy the album and see but i think they have fucked themselves a bit.

Re: Carcass in Other Bands & Artists

They are indeed, they started the same time as the Norway bands and were signed to Mayhems label… they just add twist to it all, i think they are pretty good. I like something a bit different.
