Re: Therapy? Q&A August 2007 in General Therapy? Topics

Okay, I’ve got a tough (and ultimately silly) one :

What would the multi-word albums be called in an alternate reality where albums could only be titled with a single word?

And if that’s too much effort to puzzle through; who’s the reigning Therapy? chess champion?

Re: neil isn“t that good i think in Therapy? Live

All good drummers are machines. When one slips up it’s not a mistake, I assure you. It’s engine failure.

Re: how to ruin a perfectly good therapy? song in General Therapy? Topics

Takes more than refined musical professions to make a good song work. For one you’ve got to have the right intentions with a cover.. I’ve heard many so-called good artists run over a song leaving nothing inspired left.

So, your version might well be considered a success.

Re: Hopes for a new T? Album ? in General Therapy? Topics

Power to you Kossu. What people should realize though is that one man’s ‘poor’ production is another man’s good one. Maybe it’s just a spin to roll the album out like it did? Doesn’t work for everyone, but then that’s also T?’s theme, with the possible exception of their punk poprock heydey. Enjoy your bearbeer. :>

For the next album I have no specific hopes other than that the band themselves enjoy it and found new ways to reinvent themselves. And trippy lyrics maybe? A good cover that makes me get immersed into an exploratory stare? Liner notes with free LSD stamps?

Nurse : 6
Troublegum: 5
OCFA : 4
Shameless : 3
SD : 2
PD : 1
HA : 0

..but I like where you’re going mfgeorge. I think pink + purple and the doomed-to-spread-confusion bunnies are golden.

edit : I spelled ‘pink’ with a ‘u’ - how punk am I? :>

I’d recommend you post around in the Live forum as well, I doubt you’re alone. :)

Re: A question for the “more die hard than me” fans in General Therapy? Topics

For listening to a cogent whole, I’d definitely recommend NANE - not only does it have good songs, but it’s a good ALBUM. It has a very set atmosphere; melodic, dark and powerful.

HA and Shameless are a little more ‘all over the place’, but both are worth it if you want a couple of great songs. I personally think Shameless is a very nasty album, in a good way - if a bit too polished on the sound. HA would be worth getting if you like to see them do more mid90’s punkrock-metal songs - plus, it’s pretty cheap most places I’ve looked.

Think you’ve got more than enough input now, but thought I’d add a comment regardless.

Oh, and also, I think SPYF is the best T? album.

Re: Therapy? gig for WoMbles in General Therapy? Topics

Honestly, if the Netherlands could be settled on, why not just spam for a tour that covers the area? Then attend it all as if it was held ‘especially for the WoMbles’? I’ve seen a few shows where about 50% of the people I had already seen before on previous shows. I mean - you get a lot of enthusiastic crowds in most shows anyway. Surely that’s pretty much the aim?

Oh, and I think if people could vote setlists all the time the novelty would wear off a bit. Sure, it’s lovely ideally.. but I’d really like it if Therapy? would just play the songs the’re REALLY into playing at the moment - produces the best shows in my opinion. Only thing I ask for is a SPYF song (any would do - even Whilst I Pursue My Way Unharmed with a drumsolo by Neil).. a humble request, surely? :P

Slightly off-topic, but, I heard ‘He’s not that kind of Girl’ in a coffeeshop once. A pleasant surprise!

I on the other hand have never heard the T? cover of Tatty Seaside Town, but I quite like the original, being a big Stranglers lover.

Well.. uhm.. they did cover the Smith’s ‘Vicar in a Tutu’.. so depending on the authorities present it might be a good fit. :>

Re: BBC Sessions - music through a cheap transistor in General Therapy? Topics

Hey, at least we get to see the cool inlay tales and anecdotes. I’ll have to say, I’ve heard many of these recordings, or got copies from people listening to it at some point in time.. I will survive without the album, but then, the’re plenty of hardcore fans who’d pick this up in half a breath, if they only could.

Oh, and I do think this is an excellent release concept. Personally, I think those sessions contain some of the best recordings of the early works, as well as some interesting tunes in the Evening Session. And quite likely, more that I haven’t heard yet. :)

*laughs*

Action figures! Imagine Neil Cooper with the therapeutic drum kit accessory! Maybe he could play it for you on the push of a button!

Re: ? as a brand in General Therapy? Topics

I think that to a degree they’ve gone as far as they can on that one..

T?’s shirt designs are quite apt in providing controversy or insightful commentary latched onto lyric quotes.. but I can already buy them via the website or at gigs.

Maybe they should do some more ‘unusual’ merchandise. The lighter/bottleopener combination is a good way to pave the ground.. how about sunglasses with questionmarks on the outside? It’s sure to make you look confused! Not very marketable, perhaps, but surely silly enough to warrant some thought. ;)

Re: funeral in General Therapy? Topics

I think it’s hilarious, honestly. :)

Maybe an extremely old-school church of beliefs and rulesystems - the look on the faces of the present authorities would be compelling!

But, shock value aside, it’s a fitting song. Potent too.. I love the simple chords ringing in the webgig performance. That’s probably the one I’d use myself, although I wouldn’t say I’m very torn on the issue of hopeful beliefs and atheism/agnosticism. I find it easier to lose hope on all humanity and society’s future, so that you can get to doing your best to improve things.. the same’s true with my, and my friends’ mortality.

Re: Can They have success again? in General Therapy? Topics

caffeinebomb, it’s not echoed elegantly enough, so it’s all good. I would agree that it’s not a bad thing for appreciators of the music, and probably not a bad thing for Therapy? either, as long as they can comfortably make ends meet.

Success is just what you make of it. In many ways; they’re at least as succesful now as they were in the early to mid-ninetees.

Re: Good vibes… in General Therapy? Topics

Actually I think her music has improved. Not that I would listen to it for anything but unintentional entertainment, but even an elitist whiner like me should know when to admit that they can just about stand a piece of messed up pop music. *shivers*

Other than that.. anyone got that Accept album in their collections? (Not that I’m asking for you to pirate it to me, I’m just curious).

Re: funeral in General Therapy? Topics

gimmie, you’re missing out. It seems a good song if that’s the way to go.. in that vein, if someone were having a shake between hopeful beliefs and agnosticism or atheism Suing God would be great. The song would surely do any such situation justice. Rust would be great if you were really into Rock music or a rockstar, perhaps.

Die Laughing does seem an obvious choice. Maybe that would be a good April Fools death in a segue behind Stay Happy. :>

I find the good romantic choices make my eyes watery. So I abstained from that myself - although I might want to add Sister.. it seems epic beyond it’s litteral lyrics as good music is wont to do. :)

Re: Can They have success again? in General Therapy? Topics

Oh, also, I don’t think the original question was in fact that clear - if you look at it. Words such as ‘highs’ and ‘success’ aren’t as descriptive as many would think. Would that mean someone is ignorant? I doubt it. It just means that he didn’t mention he’s asking that question from a “business” perspective.

I’d think that’s a rather harmless question, and I can understand why a discussion gets cut up when it stems from such a simple matter and rolls into an oldschool shouting fest. ;)

Anyway, to stick with the discussion that was originally intended - I think that to succeed on that venture, T? would just need to dumb themselves down a bit.. record some more digestible music, hook up with a sterilization studio and stick with the trends, but not by too much. Deviation is needed to stand out enough to equal the success from Troublegum.

I think there’s too much audio pollution and not enough music being played (or sold for that matter) lately for T? to get a big sale count without compromising at least a fair amount.

Yes, the same old cynical blabla. ;)

Re: Can They have success again? in General Therapy? Topics

Knoxville, what I meant to do is give a response to everyone’s definition of what those glory days represent. So, it’s not purely a matter of interperting your question. For the plain answer to your plain question just now (album sales/fanbase in the 90’s), I’d say yes.

To elaborate further, I do believe that there’s plenty of ground T? could walk on that could well contribute to another large scale commercial success, I’m just wondering how likely it is that they’ll do so.

And Hooch, what did you waffle on?

Posted on Sun, 1 April 2007 at 21:19

Re: Can They have success again? in General Therapy? Topics

If your definition of success means that T? are still, potentially, able to emulate the success around Troublegum then I believe it’s possible.. assuming that I am allowed to interpret success as being a possibility of multiple forms of success beyond say, recordsales. It all depends on what you mean.

What I think is that, according to what I think is success, Therapy? can have plenty success, but why would they need to ‘emulate’ the type of successes of past glory? That’s up to them, so I wouldn’t want to wander far enough to answer with a concrete yes or no.

I believe I’m leaning towards what Colin said.

Ciao everyone.

Re: funeral in General Therapy? Topics

Avoiding too topical a song would be a good idea, unless you can write it down to be played right before you’re going to be crushed by a very specific form of deathness.

Long Distance, The Boy’s Asleep and Big Cave In are all good candidates for me, as far as T? is concerned.

Re: Exclusive Therapy? webgig now available in General Therapy? Topics

Thanks Colin!

Frankly, I’m in a bad way. Among other things, my arm got some big name fracture and consequently I’m in constant discomfort and pain and all that bad stuff. It’ll be at least another month before it’ll be usable again.

Re: Exclusive Therapy? webgig now available in General Therapy? Topics

Well, I’m having a bit of a rough time, financially and physically (just got back from the hospital after a hit and run) - the two are related. Conclusion is I have to focus on paying rent and such.. and here comes the question..

Is that special signed sleeve deal a limited offer, or can I expect the Therapites to go out of their way for some signing another season down the line? I’ve tried looking about for information regarding this, but I admit I might be too uncomfortable to be very thorough.

Thanks in advance if anyone knows anything about this.

Re: How do you say Therapy? in General Therapy? Topics

Personally I variate a lot. I say, ‘Therapy?’ only when I try to be witty though. Other than that, if it’s a quick sentence I’ll just say, ‘Therapy’. In other cases I say ‘Therapy questionmark’.. it sounds very complete.
