Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Well,
Dave recently made his peace and has not slagged Metallica since (I think this now goes back almost 2 years). He even joined Lars for one of their “psycho babble” sessions in the movie Some kind of Monster. Over the years however, he has said plenty of shit about Metallica.
Now James is stooping to his level - great. It will be interesting to see whether Dave keeps his word and just doesn’t respond. To be honest, I don’t really understand where James is coming from on this one, it is more his style to let it all fall on deaf ears. I could not watch the clip - what lead to him making the impersonation?
Megadeth may not sell as many records, but they write better songs and are better musicians, nowadays at least. During Metallica’s hey day I would have called it even.

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists
Why do we have Oasis playing slane next year instead of AC/DC - is pathetic!

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists
I tried to get a third for the Dublin gig but they were gone in seconds.
Anyways, at least I am going :-)

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
The sad truth is that Dave Mustaine actually is the better vocalist out of the two now (I would have never disputed this before James shot his voice).
Was always the better guitar player.
Good to see what a big man James is.
Can’t wait for the new Megadeth - will show these douchebags how it is really done.

You have your opinion, I have mine (which is shared by many).
Anyways, I was just taking the piss, relax.

Re: Slayer’s “Unholy Alliance” Tour Down-sized in Other Bands & Artists
I have seen Slayer live twice in recent years and I have to say that I found their performances half assed in both instances.
They looked like a tired band going through the motions.
I was disappointed and would never bother go to see them live again to be honest.
I still find it hillarious having a stanch Christian singing wannabe satanic lyrics…

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I have nothing against Hard Rock, but don’t think that Metallica were convincing in trying to pull it off.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
True,
I guess it the major let down was seeing one of Metals pioneers go soft.

Re: New AC/DC song in Other Bands & Artists
I got my two tickets this morning as well - can’t wait, have been dying to see these guys live for years now.
Bring on Black Ice!
BTW, only a certain amount of tickets are allocated to pre-sale - you will have your chance again on Friday.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I have an even better idea - what about calling it “impload” an let us pretend it never happened and stop talking about those two shite albums.
The lowest point in metal full stop.

Re: Guns N Roses in Other Bands & Artists
The Fragile definitely ranks up there with my favs - class album.
Even though Use your Illusion did indeed have its turds, I found it a solid testement to Hard Rock music. Nothing in their catalogue will ever top Appetite of course though.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Yeah, Death Magnetic isn’t as bad as St. Anger in that respect - very true.

Pretty much agree with the assessment above. I have fond drinking memories of those albums…

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I think the last people that Jeff Loomis needs to look for when in need of inspiration are Metallica. Amazing guitar player / song writer. Check out their last album “This Godless Endevour” and then get back to me regarding them ripping off Metallica.
Oh forgot to mention above - the Blackening by Machine Head, proof that you can make 8 minute songs which are not boring…

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Well, if you are in to thrash specifically, check out the new Destruction album, last Exodus, the latest Testement. Kreator and Megadeth have new releases on the way etc. There is alot out there. Not sure if you would classify them as thrash, but Nevermore are also worth checking out. I too like Overkill, but your mans vocals are a matter of taste I would admit.
Death Magnetic isn’t that bad, I say it again, but I think many only compare it to St. Anger which was crap. There are 3-4 songs on Death Magnetic which I think are a reminder of what this band is capable of.
I think if Metallica continue that road and get the recording right next time it will be game on. This album has a very “let’s be thrash again…” feel to it. Hopefully it will come across more natural next time. And hopefully they will make better use of their new bassist.

Re: Guns N Roses in Other Bands & Artists
I actually liked both Use your Illusions also.
I reckon that I will check this one out too - I am not expecting much and I think that this is exactly the way to approach it.
Would be brilliant if they could reunite the old line up, saw the new one live and wasn’t too impressed to be honest.

Superunknown wrote:
Last time I checked he was crying.
After this album, I doubt it - he is probably laughing his head off. Andy Sneap will be producing his new one - that guy at least knows how a thrash album should sound…
Bring on Priest Feast - Judas Priest, Megadeth and Testement live in Dublin, can’t wait.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
He is so full of denial and shit at the same time, kind of like in his opinion towards the sound quality of St. Anger. AJFA did not influence bands due its sound quality, but due to the songs. Rick Rubin’s interpretation of Slipknot did not sound that shite. The more I think about it, the more I bet that Lars himself personally turned up the dialls…
No surprises in that interview - he sold his records, so why should her care about the fans who he has been screwing over for over 10 years now.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
This morning on the train I was listening to the remaster of “Wake up dead” by Megadeth which was followed by “My Apocalypse” off of Death Magnetic. How is it that a 2004 remaster of an 80s tune can sound way better that a mainstream, multi-million release from 2008!!!??? I was shocked.
They should continue releasing their albums for video games.
Before I get backlash from the fanboys I just want to say that I think that their are two great tunes and some good moments on the album. Consider this constructive criticism as you will have to admit that the album simply sounds crap. I went online and signed the petition to have this remastered.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Yeah, I signed the petition - think it will fall on deaf ears though (kind of the like the production).
My favs on the album would be All Nightmare long and This Judas Kiss - both great songs.

The album distorts far too easily. I was listening to it last weekend and had to stop halfway through because my head could take no more.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Jeez,
After trying to do the honest thing and buy the album I will probably end up seeking a free download of GH3 - I still can’t believe this cock up and that the band is ignoring it.
Ignorance is bliss:
Deaf Magnetic

In a good way? I keep reading that it is a thousand times better than the studio version.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
The album overall isn’t that bad at all, not excellent now either mind you.
I got the my copy delivered yesterday also and threw it into the car this morning. The sound quality of this album is simply crap though. The drums are too loud / distorted and you can hardly make out the bass.
It is a shame really, because it would have been pretty good with a decent recording.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
Sorry, was thinking Lionel Ritchie I guess ;)
“All Nightmare Long” - yeah, you can hear that he is taking his voice to the limit and almost failing on that one.

Re: Metallica in Other Bands & Artists
I don’t know, James really struggles on the chorus for “All night long”, it is almost like his voice is about to give way.
His voice has been shot since the self titled album.
