I saw MBV at the ICA on saturday, and they were incredible. You Made Me Realise was the loudest thing I’ve ever heard.
Well worth going to see, but I’m not sure it would work so well in a big venue.

He has a point - Chris Martin is humourless. He walked out in a strop from a Radio 4 interview last week.
I find it funny that their new album is trying to be ‘credible’ as well. Getting Brian Eno to produce it, and all the talk beforehand of striving for a Sigur Ros/Arcade Fire sound… yet on their new record they still come across as an over-produced, grandiose sub-U2. French revolution attire and unconventional instruments isn’t going to change that perception.

No, you’re right. It’s more psych/space, but I think it crosses over in parts.

I have ‘Going Blank Again’ by Ride which is ace, but again, it doesn’t really stick to one genre. Still, ‘Leave Them All Behind’ is definitely t’gaze and it’s definitely great.

The Panda Bear album is lovely; aural bliss. ‘Bros’ is perfection. It’s like The Beach Boys crossed with Animal Collective!

On a side note: the ‘People Ep’ is great. I hope they can better ‘Feels’ with the new album…

I don’t know if anyone’s heard any of John Cale’s early recordings. They delved into noise a fair bit.

Merzbow are pretty great, as are Birds Of Delay.
I’m guessing most have heard Lou Reed’s ‘Metal Machine Music’. That’s an intense listen. Pretty tame by todays standards, but a push in the right direction for noise music.

A few months into my discovery of noise though, I find when noise is integrated into more - lets say - conventional structures, it’s alot more enjoyable. You can hear it in everyone from The Velvet Underground even to avant-folk acts like Animal Collective.

Nice.

‘Milk And Kisses’ is beautiful too. I’ll probably buy ‘Heaven Or Las Vegas’ or ‘Blue Bell Knoll’ next.

I have ‘Treasure’, and despite dodgy production, it’s the best thing ever. Far superior to the bands they’ve influenced (Sigur Ros, Mew, His Name Is Alive).

I’ve had ‘Daydream Nation’ for a long time, but never really got past ‘Teenage Riot’. Listened to it recently (after my noise-rock obsession ended), and found it really refreshing.

So, what’s your faviroute SY album? For me, it’s a tie between ‘Goo’ and ‘Daydream Nation’. Both classics.

I can hear alot of SY in T?’s songs, too.

In hindsight, OCFA pales compared to NANE. :(

No worries! It was a well written piece. Kind of summed up what I thought about the album too.

Gimmie: they’re on hiatus, for a little while. They will almost definately be getting back together though, just as soon as Open Mouth is finished (Seymour’s new project).

Also… Open Mouth is playing in Cambridge on 2nd October. I’m *so* there. The demo Seymour sent me is very, very good. I’ll say hi if I see you.

The new Mars Volta one is very patchy. And thats the finished copy sitting on my desk. It wasn’t going to beat Frances The Mute though, was it?
