Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Pearl Jam - Ten

Fucking fantastic, had it on CD when I was younger but never really appreciated it, listened to it the other day and it blew me away. Had a quick skip through Vitalogy and it sounded good, different but good, going to listen to No Code next as reading through album descriptions on wiki it was the one that interested me the most.

Re: Levellers in Other Bands & Artists

not a huge fan or such, but have a soft spot for a fair few of their songs, i always used to love when they’d come on on the pub jukebox and all the oldies would burst in to kareoke, i even joined in once or twice.

Re: Annihilator in Other Bands & Artists

i listened to them a few times when they put an album out a few years ago, quite liked it at the time, had a really cheesy cover (looked like one of those cheapo compilations you get in asda for a fiver) and i think danko jones was on one of the track

Re: Manic Street Preachers in Other Bands & Artists

the new single came on the radio in a taxi about 2:30 am on the local “rock” station (basically xfm had a license for swansea, sold it, someone else bought it then got stuck with rock music because of their broadcasting charters rules) and nothing about it stood out at all, just sounded like any old mundane song you hear on a radio sat in a car

Re: The Wildhearts in Other Bands & Artists

listening through my stereo right now, doesnt sound as bad as i remember (self titled album) does sound very weak though, lacking oomph, oh wait spoke too soon theres the annoying fucking hi hat. shame as rooting for the bad guys could have been up there with some of the best wildheart tracks (which is a big achievment)

Re: The Wildhearts in Other Bands & Artists

i liked the japanese issue of chutzpah (uk one was far too short, and not in a short in a good way reign in blood or must be destroyed sorta deal) it was nice seeing them experimenting with different things, best track they actually did round that time was the snake the lion and the monkey (or whatever it was called) which never even got released, the self titled album i find hard to listen to because of how piss poor it actually sounds, that annoying high pitch frequency from the drums that seems to prevail loudly all the way through in the right audio channel really irks me when listening on headphones, shame as there were some very good tracks on that album as well, shame only 2 or 3 of them really ever got played live, lot of good tracks for a live setting on that album, might dig out the live in the studio of that album in a bit see if the songs sound better on that (aint watched it in ages).

Re: The Wildhearts in Other Bands & Artists

the wildhearts have pretty much split up indefinatley by the looks of it. gingers doing a few gigs with his solo bands current line up which are being advertised as “ginger and the wildhearts” but the actual current line up seems like its done probably for good. then again rich has got his roofing business, scotts got the sinatras, gingers seems to have his finger in too many pies to have time for the band and fuck knows about cj, the wildhearts was kind of like a bit of fun really recently for them from what i can gather and i dont think any of them saw it as a full time sorta thing.

Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists

How about i nominate pendulum (the band, not the decent drum and bass producers who spawned the band of the same name :p)

seriously the most cheesy pile of shit going, if people want a rock band who flirt with drum and bass sounds and beats why cant they just listen to pitchshifter?

Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists

ah. i missed all that. spent the last few days reading alot about them and the “juggalos” the tila tequila incident inspired me to spend some time looking in to the “band” and what they’re about, until the last few days i only knew them as wrestlers, diddnt realise they had such a big following as rappers.

I nominate a band called Hollywood Undead, please go on youtube and listen, you’ll all agree with me that they’re absolutely awful. Bunch of faggoty white kids wearing masks and rapping over terrible terrible music (I await a slipknot joke)

i’ll go one up on that and nominate insane clown posse.

rap music for american midwestern trailer trash who are too racist to listen to actual rap.

Re: Best song in the world… in Other Bands & Artists

there’s no such thing as the “best song in the world”, its impossible to judge, there’s too many different styles of music in the world with different sounds that are impossible to compare in a critical way.

Re: New THIN LIZZY line-up. in Other Bands & Artists

Re: New THIN LIZZY line-up. in Other Bands & Artists

i think that nirvana scenario was at the more extreme end. lets say carcass never split up originally but jeff quit, bill, michael and ken though were proud of the band and wanted to keep it going and go out touring because they realise they have fans who dont want to see the band split and they want to put out a new album under the carcass name to continue the legacy, so they bring in someone new, are you saying that this is wrong and driven by business and finance when they just want to keep playing the songs the crowds want to keep hearing and keep the brand theyve built up going? if they want to do it and theres people who are interested whats stopping them??

Re: New THIN LIZZY line-up. in Other Bands & Artists

i wouldnt personally be interested in seeing it or hearing it or having anything the fuck to do with it and know it will never happen but i wouldnt be annoyed, and to some younger people who never got to see nirvana at least they’d get a chance to experience their songs live with two thirds of the band playing it, would be a fucking travesty if “mr im so shit my band mates left me to reform creed” ever fronted nirvana but if theres a big enough demand there then let them do it, supply and demand and what have you.

and then again its better to get him than try and have some one mimicking kurt.

actually the more i think about this the more i think in some twisted logic it might be a good idea, it might hammer across the fact that the celebrity frontman is not the be all end all of a fucking band and theres at least 2 more people in the band.

Re: New THIN LIZZY line-up. in Other Bands & Artists

It’s to do with our societies obsessions on making frontmen in to celebrities whos popularity transcends that of the bands i think. I mean say Lemmy left motorhead tommorow and got replaced they’d more than likely find themselves playing clubs no matter how talented of a replacement they find just because people are too fickle and obsessed with what famous rockstar is in the band rather than judging on the quality of the performance.

when bruce dickinson left maiden they went from playing wembley and sheffield arenas to the newport center and brixton acadamy. which always shocked me, cus youve still got the whole core of iron maiden which is where most of which the talent is, just havent got an energetic nutter running round with a flag which shouldnt make that much difference but apparantly it does.

i guess people are too obsessed with vocals in a genre on which musical talent should be the main focus.

one of the many reasons i have recently grown very bored, jaded and pissed off at the rock and metal scene and the hordes of so called “fans” who dont have a fucking clue about anything
