Re: what was the last gig you went to? in Chit-Chat

GNR and Thin Lizzy

Feel sorry for Thin Lizzy, the sound was awful for them, very quiet and poorly mixed, I thought it was just the venue but when Guns N Roses came on I realised it wasn’t, shame really as they were giving it their all on stage but had to compete with one of the most static Audiences I’ve ever seen and poor sound

Gun N Roses were alout louder, and very well mixed and was a huge spectacle with fireworks and big screens and stuff, they were spot on musically, Axls voice sounded exactly like it does on studio versions as well for most the set, they did an awesome cover of Another Brick In The Wall, though my one critism is the set kind of dragged on a bit long because after every fucking song Axl would walk off stage and there’d be a guitar solo or a song with someone else singing on or an instrumental or something, some of them were pretty cool, espicially when Dizzy Reed played a song on the Piano, but it got fucking stupid when they started playing some naff pop punk song with Bumblefoot singing. Again very static audience, think this is due to how “casual” most of the audience was, without sounding condesending saw alot of people who looked like they should have been at their local Oceana andgot a feeling alot of people were only there cus they’ve heard sweet child of mine on the radio. They were scheduled to be late and come on at 20 to 11, in the end they made it on stage at 20 past 10

Re: Sonisphere Cancelled!! in Chit-Chat

Have kiss ever been a serious band though? they seem more like a brand, sort of a rock band for people who dont really like music more than anything.

Re: Sonisphere Cancelled!! in Chit-Chat

I can imagine Queen +guy off american idol would cost them a fortune
I can imagine none of the festivals target audience would want to see queen + guy off american idol

have you moved your apps to the memory card that helps free up alot of space, can do it in settings > applications > manage applications

Re: Mobile Phones / UK Providers in Chit-Chat

HTC phones are banging, i had a desire and now have a sensation and couldnt ask for any more from a phone, apart from maybe better battery life. Android destroys Ios.

Re: Failed first year at uni in Chit-Chat

i’ve failed my first year twice in a row, no regrets at all, had a good time and student loans much much easier than dealing with the patronizing buggers at the job center.

at the end of the day, uni teaches you alot of valueable life skills, learn how to find your own feet and helps you grow as a person, none of that is done in the classroom though.

Re: Quitting Smoking in Chit-Chat

well on the night of my 3rd day in i fucked up. went round a mates and instead of turning down a bottle of beer i thought “whats the harm in a beer” then as i could smell smoke around me i gave in and asked someone for a fag, then bought a ten pack for whilst i was out (logic was, ive already smoked today, i’ll get cigarettes instead of tobacco as cigarettes have a much more ‘chemically’ taste and are easier to get sick of, i’ll get ten instead of twenty as i know i’ll give more than a few away to mates so i wont really smoke that many) , woke up today feeling stupid and noticing how much i stink of smoke. but thats made me even more determined to quit.

i might try that whiskey idea, reckon it would work with vodka? as thats all i’ve got to hand??

Re: Quitting Smoking in Chit-Chat

im going to put my giving up to test tonight by going out, usually when im out i tend to smoke alot, however i am not getting intoxicated in anyway tonight to see if i can be surronded by people smoking when i go to the smoking terrace to hang out and not be tempted myself. im having a month off drinking and whatnot as well to a) get life on track and b) i know that the moment alcohol touches my tounge i start chain smoking to the degree where i’ll be making my next rollie as im halfway through smoking the one before it, or that when im at a houseparty all morning i tend to hit a period where i start chain smoking as im starting to recover from my nights antics.

Quitting Smoking in Chit-Chat

Just interested to know if any wombles have (successfully) ever given up smoking? I ask this as i’m ony my third day of cold turkey (i dont believe in the idea of using patches as it seems counteractive to give up something by changing method of administration, that would be like the nhs moving heroin junkies from using needles to smoking it), im finding it alot easier than the last time i attempted due to reading some articles on big tobacco and some of the shit they’ve pulled, when im facing cravings i just think to myself that i’m not going to give in and become a slave to these evil people who are profiting over my addiction (and problem, because it is a problem and should be recognised as one rather than a “choice”) anymore, also i’ve been experiencing a sharp pain in my heart, alot of coughing and a general discomfort but im getting through this by telling myself its my body recovering and that even a few weeks of this is ultimatley miles better than the prospect of a slow painful death. The one thing im struggling with are so called “triggers” like the moments in life where i’d smoke out of habit and not necessity eg whenever leaving the house and walking somewhere, or after putting the washing machine on etc. i know theres a low success rate, but i really do feel as though this time i will beat it because my mind is so set on it. Hell looking back now the only reason i started smoking was a (very very ill informed and misguided) teenage rebellion against god know what.

The band The Alarm have a song called Deeside, always wondered what that was about and seeing as they are/were Welsh I guess that’s what it is. Nice to learn that.

Also that quote from me there, God wow can’t believe that was me saying that. Really childish back then… or maybe pissed or something. Probably the former though.

deeside home of the asda with a mcdonalds built in to it and more food places than any other town in britain right and it had an ice rink?

i was there the summer before last as i have a mate who lives in hawrden and i walked from there to deeside a fair few times.

Re: Reformations and ideas in Chit-Chat

i’d love to see this tour on a roatating headliner kinda deal with terrorvision opening, so t? the wildhearts and skunk anansie would all get an equal length set each night and the order of the 3 main acts would be rotated each night, but in reality skunk anansie would probably be the headliners each night.

The problem with things such as Special Constables is that the police have made massive cuts, which means they cannot afford to have police trainers train the Specials from scratch… the amount of sessions required, uniform, and various other expenses are not justifiable to some forces in England & Wales, as it simply costs too much. As it stands, Northern Ireland do not have Special Constables or PCSOs.

I’ve decided on Combined Hons. Education with Sport and Counselling & Psychotherapy. I will drop C&P after year 1.

Have a meeting with uni in a fortnight to discuss and confirm my options

your uni seem more organised than mine, all i got told was to come back on the 27th september to enrol if i wish to resit my first year, that was it, no talks or anything.

this year im going to make a big effort, if it doesnt work out then uni isnt for me.

I wish my dad would realise failing the first year isnt as big of a deal as he seems to think it is, out of all my uni friends i literally know about 4 or 5 people that passed their first year.

Re: Just failed my first year of university… in Chit-Chat

also dont quote me on this, not 100% sure but dont most unis give you credit if youve passed modules of a similar course before changing course?

if this is indeed true and you do something similar it might lessen the work load come september.

Re: Just failed my first year of university… in Chit-Chat

colin im in the exact same position, however in my case its all my fault. pissed around a hellve lot. missed 1 of my 4 exams, only handed in 2 assignments both late. im waiting for my dissertation to see what my options are, but i wouldnt change much for the world. had a good year, settled in a new place, made some very good mates and had a year of personal growth in which i’ve discovered alot about the world and myself. Are you planning on staying where you are or going to uni elsewhere?
