Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
Now that’s a nice touch, using the TJ’s backdrop. I’m amazed they managed to peel it off the wall mind the amount of beer that’s been soaked into it.

Yeah, cheers Hooch, I posted a link to this on John’s tribute page on bookface. 5000 people joined this group in under a second or something along those amazing lines. I should have passed back messages from people grateful for Therapy’s thoughts but I know a few have emailed the band anyway.

;Post ‘em up matey, I’ve promised myself I’ll not regret prefering a quieter night in Le Pub but deep down I’m curious as to how everyone came out that sweaty.

Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
Don’t be, I was just around the corner and as I thought, it just wasn’t big enough for the numbers as mates were coming out drenched and they hadn’t even made it to the bar. Great gig though apparently, if you were in early :-)

Defo in the basement as you said. Enzo will never have seen bar takings like tonight. I’m giving it a miss but enjoy :-)

Yep, that’s what seems to be happening although Dean was sure it was in TJ’S. This is getting a tad confusing to say the least.

Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
That is one possibilty yes and one that’s been suggested but there are a few people in office who couldn’t care less about the place so if they can find an infraction then they’ll shout it from the rooftops. I shall find out more today and post it here.

Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
There is now a bit of bother regarding arsehole jobsworths in the council. It appears that because John is now dead his licensce is now invalid. Many people are trying many things, including asking our local politicians, to overlook certain conditions, which obviously they cannot. Turn up anyway and let’s see if we cannot get by this nonesense somehow. May be a dry gig though.

Would be kinda fitting it’s one of the older Newport bands that see everything off it that’s what happens.

Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
Alright Fatboy,
Yeah, Therapy played there a few times before the Hole gig (the famous one where Kurt turned up and John insisted he pay the £3 to get in) and loads of times since. There were things in the pipeline anyway to try and raise some cash before this happened and I believe they may still go ahead, if only to keep the club out of the hands of those who wouldn’t understand that sometimes it isn’t about making pots of dosh, it might just really and truthfully be about the music.
Keep your ears out and I’ll post anything that occurs on here and hope to see you there sometime in the near future.

Re: John Sicolo, Newports godfather of the underground passed way today in Chit-Chat
Sent a message to Rene earlier asking him to forward the news to the band. Like most of us who saw those incredibly early Therapy gigs at TJ’s John was an instant fan and looked forward to them returning just as much as anyone else. To say he helped put Newport on the map for those brilliant, if brief, moments way back in the day is an understatement to say the least. I grew up in TJ’s and saw him lose Trilby and thought he’d be indestructable after he came through that.
He’ll be missed and remembered by many.

Eh?

Re: What makes YOU a special Therapy? fan in General Therapy? Topics
Saw their first gig outside Ireland back in 19??????, even bought their dodgey t-shirt and loved them ever since.
Got a 12” knob.
Can play twinkle twinkle on the comb and paper.
Have a very interesting collection of pre-war, sequentially numbered, first edition, Arsenal players footy cards that came in some sort of fag packet back in the day.
Can eat a whole packet of Jaffa Cakes without feeling guilty.
Taaadddddaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaaa !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Re: Ever walked out of a gig? in Other Bands & Artists
Loads.
Extreme Noise Terror in the mid early 90’s (only gig to give me a headache but I had been doing way to many whatsits so only myself to blame).
Wildhearts but only really went to see Therapy anyway
Megadeath but was there doing an interview so didn’t pay for the ticket. They were shit.
Little Angels. There for a review of gig for mag so didn’t pay thank fuck
Mr Big. Same, there for review, very bad indeed.
The Alarm. No need to explain
The GLC. Was another freebie but I was supposed to be doing their stage set for their upcoming tour so needed to hang around and couldn’t manage it :-(
Motorhead. Like ‘em but after an hour it just isn’t that good really.
I like this one, Take That. Was there to paint their stage (sad but true). A million quid wasted as far as I could see.
The Fall. Went because I was curious. Left after 45 mins.
Loads more but i forget. The Wonderstuff ring bells but not for being brilliant live I know.

Re: Newport Gig in Therapy? Live
Perhaps but TJ’s own tickets are blank ones with the TJ’s logo on and the seller has to write the info on both the ticket and the tear-off stub bit.
Mad as a box of frogs.

Re: Newport Gig in Therapy? Live
No, he did and still spends time there. He genuinely was visiting his mum.
Anyway, back to more serious things. Tickets have been going on sale for £12 at the usual Newport outlets yet are advertised as £11 on the TJ’s site. Usual shite arrangements from TJ’s newest promoters I expect. You’ll also be glad to know the tickets are now handwritten. Yes, I kid you not. If ever there was an invitation to copy tickets then here it is. Nuts they are.

Re: Newport Gig in Therapy? Live
Well he must have been visiting his mum last week then coz he was crossing the road from Pill to the town centre :-). Incidentally, my Mrs works with his daughter and she does have the most amazing voice.
That’s his daughter of course, my mrs sings like a strangled walrus.

Aye, they did support them way back when for a Reading warm-up I think it was. Benji is in Skindred of course so won’t be putting in an appearance I wouldn’t have thought.

Re: Newport Gig in Therapy? Live
Just spoken to the promoter earlier and it’s £12 a ticket as of now. You can get them from Rockaway, Diverse and all the usual Newport outlets if you’re around and don’t want to pay silly booking fees.
The Bad Samaritans may well support and, as any good punk will know, these guys are ex Cowboy Killers/Dub War so they will, of course, be great.

Re: First cars… in Chit-Chat
Get a VW anything, they’re even better than some SAABs I’ve owned. Or, if you’re feeling flush an Audi. Diesel versions of either will go twice around planet earth on one tank of fuel.
Most importantly though, whatever you get make sure you have AA cover aswell. You’ll probably need it as everyones first car explodes at some point. Usually at night and it’ll be raining.

Crooked timber in General Therapy? Topics
I’ll stick my neck out cos I’m due to die any day now (I’m 40) so fuck anyone who wills it quicker. Those who caught this lot cira ‘the start’ loved them of course but I’ve just done the 10 straight plays thingy with the newy. It’s the bollocks. No Really. Discuss. Taking into consideration they’ve done some bollocks that weren’t the bollocks in the past innit. If we’re honest.
A 10+ album with fucking cherries on.
And fuck the bandwidth, this needs saying etc. Teethgrinder will find a button to delete me but I know where he lives, Oh yes.
