Re: play on in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Once someone makes a tab, you’ll be able to “play on forever”.

*Loads of coats thrown my way*
Yes, yes, I can find it myself thank you.

Re: Drum Kits in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

£450 is a bit expensive for a first kit, I would say.

Cos if you don’t stick with it well that’s a lot of money.

You mean like a second hand Pearl Export maybe Mr Thumper?

I’d say head for something down that line - I didn’t and yeah did regret it. Blew the best part of my student loan on my current kit though, who needs textbooks! ;)

Have a good look round the net to get some ideas. I just found a decent sounding Mapex setup with cymbals for £300 so who knows what you might find.

My second kit was a second hand Pearl kit, I’m not actually sure of the type but it was pretty old. But yeah, Pearl is a good place to start.

Re: Drum Kits in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Stagg are shit. Even if you are just starting out, don’t get those raft of shit tubs that they call drums.

Once you get the basics, you’ll regret ever getting a stagg kit. Sometimes it’s better off to go for a better known kit maker, at least then you know what you’re getting. For a beginner I’d probably go for Pearl myself, that’s what I had.

I now use a Mapex M 6 piece which sounds brilliant, but cost a lot of money, so try and stick with something cheap but not crap, just in case you decide drums aren’t for you.

Re: Out of interest: String Gauges in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I bought my shit guitar, second hand last year sometime.

I hardly play it, seeing as I’m a drummer by trade, and I actually have no idea what gauge my string are. From the feel though, they seem to be of a thinner gauge than say what the guys in my band use.

Re: I Want One! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Is that the thing that you tap?

If so, I’ve seen it before, it’s pretty cool what you can do with it.

Re: drum tuning anyone? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Mines made out of thin plastic.

You could try cutting a circle of card out. That might work.

I’m not saying it will but you could try.

And I mean like paper/card, not like what boxes are made out of.

Re: drum tuning anyone? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

My snare is tight on both ends of the drum.

I’ve got an O-ring on there to stop the overtones.
I take it off when I’m playing something off of St. Anger though.

Only jokin’, i love bassists really! :D

Did you not use that one somewhere else?
But for drummers?
Widen your repertoire (sp?)
Haha.

Re: Kits of the World in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Haha, yeah, but I’ve made it all back now, so it’s good.

RRP £800, I got it for £500. Ace deal.

Looks shit to me.

But that’s just my opinion. I’d have to hear it though.

Re: Kits of the World in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Hello again. Seeing as I now have my new drum kit, fully set up, thought I’d show you some pictures. So basically, I have a Mapex M Birch 2005 6 piece kit, with double braced hardware, and all the cymbals that I’ve mentioned before. It looks fucking ace, and plays even better - just the right sound I’ve been looking for.

When I get my new one however, in a big huge box, I’ll consider posting it. :D

Re: Kits of the World in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I’m now selling my kit! That’s right, that kit you see in my pics, needs a new home.

I’ve just bought myself a new drum kit, which means I have to find a new owner for my old one.

Great Pearl kit, only thing really wrong with it is that the bass drum legs aren’t firmly in place anymore as the threads on the screws which hold them in place are kanckered. Although I’m sure that’s easily fixed.

No cymbals with it, however I will give up a couple of cymbal stands (not sure how many yet) a snare stand, hi-hat stand and a bass pedal.

It’s quite an old kit, but still pretty good. Looking for around £200 maybe?

P.S. You’d have to come pick it up. Which is probably why it’s useless posting this ad in here. :p But just in case.

Here’s an older pic of my kit, with the 5 cymbal set-up, instead of my new meaty 7. :p

Re: Kits of the World in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I’ve just newly added two cymbals to my setup, with the help of ebay, of course.

I bought a A Custom 17” Crash and a Avendis Zildjian 17” Medium/Heavy crash. All for the lovely price of £174. Wooo!

Re: Neil Cooper Interview in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I’m gonna have to start doing some research on some Drum magazines, :p

Re: Neil Cooper Interview in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I want to get it! Firstly cause I’ve never really heard much about Neil apart from in the Scopophobia dvd - It looks like he’d be such a laugh, and I’m guessing that’ll be conveyed in the interview (unless they edit it to make him sound more like a serial killer) :p

And secondly I’m a drummer, and didn’t realise there was a “Drummer” magazine, I only ever thought of “Rythym” magazine, d’oh!

Re: V-Drums in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Well, as you say, they’re handy so that they don’t annoy the neighbours. However, I find that on any electronic kit I play, it just doesn’t have the same feel. The bounce from the pads just isn’t the same as as real kit.

Of course, you can have loads of different sound effects.

The pads are too small for me. When I’m playing, I like to use a lot of the skin, but electronic kits restrict that sort of movement.

That’s just me, but I hope that’s helped you in some way.

Re: Kits of the World in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I was told to post in here being a drummer, so I will. My setup:

I’ve got an old Pearl kit, dunno what kind, cos it’s second-hand and doesn’t have any style-labelling on it.

12” Tom
13” Tom
16” Floor Tom
22” Bass Drum
14” Tama Rockstar Snare

My snare has an Evans “St Dry” skin, I sometimes use an Evans O-ring on there as well.
Hi-tom - Evans Genera G1 coated
Mid-tom - Remo Weatherking Coated Emperor
Floor-tom - Remo Weatherking Coated Ambassador
Bass Drum - Remo Weatherking

I’ve got Zildjian Titanium ZXTs:

14” Hi-hats
16” Crash
10” Splash
20” Ride
Also, a normal ZXT 14” China

Hardware:
Tama Iron Cobra Double Pedal “Power Glide”
Stagg (yuck) Stands apart from the snare which is Premier. (I was on a tight budget…)

Oh, and I usually use Steve Smith Signature Vic Firth sticks.

I might be able to get a picture up shortly :p

Re: Neil’s Kits. in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

For 20 (or 19) he has hellish speeling errors. But that’s pretty cool that you get lessons from Neil, that would be bloody amazing!
