I’m not bothering with Metallica anymore but i’ve been reading the reviews with interest… i find it a bit weird that some people say stuff like “At least they are trying again”. Are they that disappointing these days that we have to give them points for ‘trying’ to please people??

That is in no way a slagging off of the people who wrote such things, it just makes me think of Metallica as an old dog thats waiting to die but you don’t want to put it out of it’s misery just yet because it’s been so good to you over the years!

I just heard the Day That Never Comes on Radio 1, heavily edited. I was driving at the time and had to pull over so i didn’t fall asleep!

I would go so far as to say that that is the cheesiest thing they have ever done : (

Yeah, just after i’d seen em live for the first time at the start of the summer. Apparently, they might get back together its a ‘hiatus’. Alt6hough one bit of criticism i would have to say about them is that they painted themselves into a corner with INWT…where would they have gone next?

Bit like the manics. If richey had stayed they would have been shit after THB if they’d made another one like it and then toured to the same few fanatically dedicated freaks. it would have been over for sure.

So the general consensus is Metallica suck now! And thats before the album comes out. An album i’m not bothering to buy btw!

It’s not bad except well, you know the score - it sounds like all their other songs. I’m not sure if i’m allowed to criticize that idea or not cos they do what they do and never change!

haven’t heard it yet but i do love a bit of ac/dc. id love to play bass for them - millions of pounds for hitting 3 notes in one straight rhythm all night!

Reuben - In Nothing We Trust. I hated this album for ages but now i’ve given it a proper chance it’s ace. Just takes a few listens like all the best albums do.

Are there any other reuben fans on here? I’d love to know the REAL reason they split up recently!

I kinda like it but get the feeling that Metallica are now followers not leaders, the harmony guitar, thrashy riff thing has been back in fashion for a few years now and this is not kicking its ass and showing the younger bands how it should be done…it’s just a pretty good Metallica song, not their best but not their worst.

Or you could try posting this on the Paradise Lost website?

I’m listening now for the first time, gonna give it a few more spins before i slag it! Like the thrashy bit though!

Not all of it. I own the album with Who Knows on it and it all sounds the same. A big fat riff that has been produced so it sounds like there are 47 guitars doing the same thing and Josh’s subdued talking that he calls “singing” with absolutely no variation in tone! No wonder he had to get other people in to sing and play on it! It probably would have just been on droning note from start to finish otherwise!!!

They played 2 x 4 at Donington didn’t they as their new one back in 95 before Load came out?? And look at what we got when the album arrived!!

Er…Dan new Oasis single is basically the same as what Metallica have done…hyped up a b-side!!

lol - i’m sure its been said on here before about kirk’s musical prowess. how come ‘the thing that should not be’ is one of the best solos of all time but EVERYTHING else he does sounds the same??!

i think they are still relevant which is why i like em, they STILL haven’t released a crappy greatest hits package and done a tour and the music industry is always watching to see what they do next so they are still a force to reckoned with. (sorry that last bit was well cheesy but all i could think of!)

i read the Q article, James seems much more chilled out these days, being a singer myself i think james has gone from having a terrible voice to a really strong one, whatever you say about the lyrics he sings, his voice is good.

the more i hear it the more i think…’hmmm trying too hard’ so i’m gonna stop now!

I appreciate him having to take a job at a certain time but making them have to cancel an entire tour? Bit wanky, ain’t it?

I wonder what the new job is?? Plumbing? Market research, perhaps?!

they did ‘always on the run’ together. not sure who’s was the original.

Last i heard they were hiring an unknown from England but if this new news is true i’d be interested to hear the results.

It does whiff of 2 sets of artists whose career s are heading downwards trying to build themselves up again though.
