Re: “I hate coldplay” thread in Other Bands & Artists

Why does Isness think that everything everyone else is ridiculous? What a ridiculous thing to say!

99 Red Balloons was a great 80’s tune but thats the only one i can think of! Thank God for thrash metal being invented!

Re: “I hate coldplay” thread in Other Bands & Artists

I just thought of a band i hate…! I don’t really hate any music as its quite a strong word to sum up music but Spandau Ballet. True and Gold, fuck I HATE those songs! Thats my negative rant over with for the week! :p

Re: “I hate coldplay” thread in Other Bands & Artists

I know what you mean. I would like to like them i just…can’t! It really annoys me as well that the acoustic guitar is now all but associated with dreary heartfelt ballads in our society. Acoustic guitar can be fun, but thanks to Coldplay and their ilk there are thousands of dreary young men just like them writing dreary songs about not very much at all! Someone write an acoustic guitar song thats exciting!

Re: “I hate coldplay” thread in Other Bands & Artists

The old bedwetting thing came from Malcolm McClaren who meant that rock music these days seems to be made by dull University students (Radiohead) rather than working class futureless music fans (Wildhearts). I don’t think the actual music was his target, more the nonce’s that perform it.

Re: A few questions about the guitar… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Musical questions are always hard to answer cos there’s infinite ways of doing things and not necessarily a right way, though when it comes to chords there are simpler ways around things.

Re: Name the New Album in General Therapy? Topics

hmmm. i’m not sure therapy? can afford to do that!
i think Walk Through Darkness is the only one that could be an album title but i hope they don’t use a song title…

Re: A few questions about the guitar… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Buffalo-boy I don’t understand what is rhythmic about a bass, surely a guitarist can provide more rhythm than a bass player. He can pick faster anyway. I suppose the bass player usually locks in with the kick drum though, so is that rhythm for ya?
Thanks!

Hmmm, i don’t think there’s a right answer here, i guess it depends who plays the most rhythmically! Personally in my band we hear the song and us rhythm section dudes create the rhythm to propel the guitar and vocals but i’m sure there are plenty of bands where the drummer makes something out of what the guitarist is doing and sometimes riffs come out of a drumbeat too!
Michael is right of course though, us bassists have to stick to the rhythm and notes ALL the time (unless soloing. Guitar is a bit more fun in this area, but then again holding the song together is fun too. Thats why i use lots of distortion and chords so people know its me and go “Fuck me! What was that!” haha, try it!
As for being able to pick faster on guitar generally yes, but i can do thrash metal with my fingers Rob Truhillo style, most bassists are just lazy - its not hard so i guess im the exception to your rule!

Re: What’s everybody reading in Chit-Chat

Ive never seen it, nor do i want to watch it but the soundtrack is worth a listen (for the most part)

Current reading:

Anthony Keidis - Scar Tissue (amazing, everyone should read it!)

The Dance of the voodoo handbag - Robert rankin

Re: “I hate coldplay” thread in Other Bands & Artists

Goddam public schoolboy, bedwetting rubbish at sports poncey rich dreary passionless soul-less boring tired old men. And they are only in their 20’s! Maybe i’ll love them when i’m 47!

Re: Manics… where to start? in Other Bands & Artists

“I live to fall asleep” - all i can say to that song is - the title fits perfectly.[/quote]

haha,like it! :)

Come on Manics, start playing like you mean it again! I think it all went wrong for me when I heard the lyrics to the Convalescent… surely the worst lyrics EVER bar none! “Lovely labradors outnumber musicians” makes me cringe in despair! Absolutely dreadful!

Re: A few questions about the guitar… in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

I’m sure there will be disagreements here but here goes:

1)Yes, electric guitars have thinner necks and the strings are closer together making them easier to play. Plus they have metal strings as opposed to nylon ones which makes them ring out more.

2) The less frets you have the more creative you have to be. Compare a John Williams score with a rock guitar one and you’ll see where you need the most technique and skill. Please no-one start an argument going ‘its not about technique, its about feeling…blah blah’ I know this, its an example, ok?!

3)Because holding a bass string down is like playing a steel girder in comparison to nancy guitar strings. And note that most bands these days have started emulating the bass on guitar by playing low tuned, one string riffs and concentrating on rhythm ala bass. See Evanescence, T?, QOTSA, Metallica. Bass is about rhythm AND notes.

4) Major and minor are the main ones but you could change fingering slightly to do the 7ths aswell so 2 really.

5) There’s no such thing as a scale for pussies, its all beautiful music! Note choice is down to the individual, so make them good ones!

Re: Manics… where to start? in Other Bands & Artists

They haven’t made a REALLY good album in years so I won’t hold my breath…

I think Lifeblood has some of their best songs ever ie 1985, Empty Souls, Live to Sleep, Solitude…, and their worst ever stuff - Emily, Fragments, Richard Nixon which has to be their worst single EVER! Thats even worse than So Why So Sad!

Paul weller is horrible looking too. Maybe if he wore clothes that suited him it would be better.

Re: Albums to look forward to in Other Bands & Artists

Ther’s also Metallica, Silverchair, My Vitriol (supposedly) and the Chili’s. Can’t wait! And if green Day get lost for a while it would be great too! I’m bored of hearing them all the time now. Maybe they will work out how to write a song with 4 chords in it!

Re: I can’t play barre chords, please help me! in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)

Barre chords are nasty… for a long time i just used to cheat eg playing the ‘A’ in the open position and just playing the chords over the bottom 4 strings - that way you’ve got every note you need in there (root, 5th, octave, M or m).

On a classical guitar you will find it MUCH harder, thats true compared to an electric but keep going and don’t worry about getting every note perfect, eventually it will come. Or get an electric, way easier!
I play chords on a bass, now thats pain!

Re: Therapy? Best Guitar/Song Moments? in General Therapy? Topics

T? Have an album called Heavens Gate? eh?

Best moments for me has to be Rust for the HUGE bass riff that Michael brings it back in with…definately a Beavis and Butthead YES! moment!

Dead is cool as fuck too, i feel dirty after listening to it..in a good way! esp when it goes into the uplifting melodic bit in the middle.

:)

Re: If Therapy? were playing tonight… in Therapy? Live

I think it would be funny as hell to T? doing that! Maybe not a whole set as the joke would wear thin after about 4 songs… what about crossing the two?!!

Jingle knives!?

Rock You Monkeys round the Christmas tree!

:D

Re: Ginger New Album in Other Bands & Artists

Clam Abuse are interesting.

I saw a CD the other day, artist Ginger and it looked like it was all the songs from the singles collection that never got finished and obviously rather rare but i didn’t buy it as Ginger doesn’t deserve my money. So ha!
