Re: info about punk/therapy? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Firstly, read the biography on this site, would be helpful :)
Yes, Undertones were a big influence for T?, also Stiff Little Fingers and Northern Irish punk bands in general, as Andy says on the DVD. :)

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
If they want to play with just a crash and ride; let them.
You aren’t the guy behind their kit, so I don’t see much point complaining about it!
If it pisses you off, simply ignore the bands and don’t buy / read NME.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
The Wildhearts use 4 crashes, a ride, and sometimes a china.
I’m sure there’s more “The” bands that use more than a crash and a ride. Not every drummer on here gets pissed off at the amount of cymbals that a drummer uses.
And there’s nothing wrong with the Arctic Monkeys.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Yes, but there are other bands that use more cymbals.
Why bother getting pissed off at the few bands?
Actually, name a band that uses just a crash and ride cymbal?
I can’t think of any. Razorlight use 2 crashes and a ride, as do Snow Patrol!
Well, they did when I seen them live.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
1 - That’s what I’m playing on; a left handed set up.
2 - In a few weeks, that’s all the cymbals I’ll be using, before expanding to maybe 2 crash’s and a ride.
3 - Not everyone is doing that.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I used to write left handed, but switched to right handed mid-way through Primary School.
I’ve always been left footed, and in the drum lessons in school I always complained that I would prefer to have my left foot on the kick pedal. I asked for the kit to be set up in a left handed set up so I could play open-handed and they refused then kicked me out of drum lessons.
So, I got my own kit back in January and played open-handed on a left handed kit for a while. Didn’t really feel right for some reason. Tried switching the kit back to a right handed set up and it failed too, then I just started playing on the left handed kit not playing open handed if you get what I mean…
Sorry I can’t switch to Music speak mode and explain it all properly. :)
In a nutshell, I naturally switched, in the same way in which I naturally switched writing hands.

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Playing a left handed kit now.
Haven’t played in a few weeks as waiting on my Planet Z cymbals (only £69!!) to arrive from my relatives in England.
Just the pedal I need. Never took much interest in double bass til I heard some stuff you can do with them!!!

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
I started off as a right handed drummer but I’m now left handed!
Do you reckon I’d be able to learn double bass a bit quicker than others because of my previous experience of playing on right handed drum kits?
I was considering investing in double kicks, especially as my kick on my shitty kit is broken!!!!

Re: Drum Tabs (I know, common question) in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Start of by listening to Troublegum songs. I’ve managed Knives, Nowhere, Screamager and most of die laughing simply by listening to it by ear.
Watching the DVD and webgig has also helped with Screamager in particular.
Neil played Nowhere in a very different way than Fyfe, by using a crash instead of a ride during the chorus. However, there is a video of them supporting Motorhead in Dublin, where Neil plays the chorus on the ride rather than the crash cymbal.
The above probably makes no sense, I’m no good at drum speak. :)
Six Mile Water, Lonely Cryin Only and Long Distance are songs I found easy to learn… and I’ve never seen Long Distance live.
The way I learnt Long Distance was that I listened to the reheasrsals from this site, played to them a lot then eventually moved onto the album version. I didn’t really worry about bass timing much, but I think I’ve figured it out now. :)
Hope I’ve been a bit of help.

Re: T? Drum tabs in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Try playing things such as 6 Mile Water, and the rock version of Diane (Graham’s version) to get you used to playing by ear.
Then you move onto simple songs such as Screamager and build your way up! :)
That’s how I learnt anyways..

Re: Drum Kits in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Woah, my choice is now a lot tougher! :p
Planet Z cymbals, bear in mind I am a beginner, for £70 (I get a bit of a discount cause I know the dude).
You get hi-hats, a crash and a ride.
They also sound really, really good!
Anybody know Marcus’ Music, Belfast website?

So Colin, whatcha gonna be going for?
Sabian B8 I think. I need a decent cymbal pack really cheap. And when I say really cheap, I mean really!
I could buy Sabian Solar cymbal pack with a ride stand for £69. Not a bad price for hi-hats, crash/ride and a ride cymbal.
But from what I’ve been told, they are the lowest of the low on Sabian’s end, but at that price, I’m not too suprised.

often heard about sabian cymbols. they seem to be pretty popular, but i never heard the sound of it. i think the slipknot guy does have them as well… but i don’t like slipknot :)
He uses Paiste.
I was talking to a drummer in a music shop yesterday (he works there) and he told me that Sabian were terrible!
He told me Zildjian were way better, but I’m not so sure.

Re: Drum Kits in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
Cheers for the replies people!
Tryin to play Screamager, doesn’t sound the best with brushes (or is it my drumming  ), but I think it’s a bit hard to play with just a hi hat and a crash/ride!
Spare cymbals?
Anyone?

Re: Any drummers out there?? in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
No, I never liked him. Everything up til the Black album was good, then it got shit.
Don’t get me wrong, Master of Puppets was a great album, but, now, I don’t think he cuts it anymore.
And if most other drummers can play to loads of people, day in, day out, for 2 and a half hours per night why can’t he?

Re: The Framus in Musicians (Gear, Tabs & Lyrics)
There’s a music shop in Belfast that sells the Framus AK1974.. £1499 I think, or is it £1399…
I’ll try getting a link…
Nope, no link. Although for any Belfast folk it’s in Matchetts Music. :)
Looks really nice… I wondered why they suddenly stocked the guitar in about May 2006…
Do you think it’s because Mr Cairns uses one?

Was gonna say… because you can’t see any pedas at Andy’s feet!
Sarah, would you be so kind to ask Neil why he’s not got the second bass drum there… I would’ve loved to hear him play Manson on double bass! ;)

What kit do you recommend and how much?
I’d like to find one on the ‘net, because it’s my dad that’s buying it and he doesn’t know music. :)

Any better kits I can get for around £450?
