You’re confusing Dub and Dubstep mate, and despite the name Dubstep didn’t evolve from dub, it’s (well was back in 98 when the term first came about) a sort of combination of the darker elements of drum and bass and 2-step (a form of garage (not garage rock though) which is even shitter than most garage) before it evolved into what you hear today, DUB on the other hand is the forerunner to remixes (in fact a lot of the early dub pioneers were soundsystem engineers, King Tubby was an electrician and soundsystem operator), it’s a subset of reggae and often involves just the rhythm section of a track (sometimes cut up and re-dubbed) with loops of other instruments and sometimes snippets of vocals dropped in and out with a heavy use of reverb , echo and delay. It quickly became very popular within reggae so you got bands and producers making dub albums without using a vocal track as the starting point (the fact Jamaica didn’t have any copyright laws at the time helped a lot initially).
Basically Reggae has always had very very deep and heavy bass, dub took this a bit further and that’s why dubstep with it’s heavy heavy basslines got dub in its name.
If I’m ever stuck in a music round in a pub quiz I’m getting hold of you!

Re: Red Dwarf in Chit-Chat
It didn’t matter whereabouts they had the gags, it was always the tension between Rimmer and Lister that was funny. I think I saw the same documentary and they were discussing how they got a proper budget and went a bit crazy.
With regards to purchasing the box sets, when they first released them onto DVD (with the extras) you got a free Blue Midgit/Starbug etc. with some of them. Might be worth looking out for for when you want to recreate those scenes in your bedroom when you think nobody’s looking. Or is that just me?
I have the VHS collection from when they remastered it and when you put it together it makes a picture of Red Dwarf! How easily amused we were in the days before DVDs! I think I even spent a tenner on each one. I’ve seen them in the charity shops since!

Anything other than Series 7 and I’m happy. Although I don’t know, can they really capture those glory years now all the main characters are middle-aged Brit-com/soap stars?!
Fingers crossed…

I got the vinyl delivered on Saturday…love The Buzzing and Get Your Dead Hand Off My Shoulder. Yes, there are lots of different influences in there. Yes, play it on a decent sound system or you lose the bass. I wouldn’t suggest to play it in the car!
One of the things I love about T? is that they don’t just rehash the same formula time and time again.
Can’t wait hear some of the new stuff played live in April…roll on Leeds!

Chris you are making me too jealous tonight.

…just delivered today on purple vinyl but I had to wait until I got to a decent record player (mine is ancient and tinny) tonight before I wanted to do it any justice…
Just listened to it for the first time…love The Buzzing and Get Your Dead Head off My Shoulder…
…definitely some dark dub influence amongst others in there…
I really want to listen to it again but my boyfriend is engrossed with Mr T’s ‘World’s Dangeous Fools’. Help.
Chris…how fucking jealous am I of you right now…
…if there’s two things that keep me sane in life they’re Red Dwarf and Therapy?
Give Chris Barrie a big snog from me.

Re: UK Tour April 2012-CONFIRMED in Therapy? Live
I think I will need to set a reminder on my ‘phone for next week so I get the tix.
Tempted by the London weekend thing but it’s MILES away…sigh…so I guess it’s Leeds all the way then!
PS MANCHESTER hint hint hint hint????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????????? Come ON! We love you in Manchester, T?, you know that! Plenty of gig venues, cracking watering holes and lovely chip naans from Abduls afterwards. Sure I can’t tempt you?

Re: Therapy? & The Answer - 4th November 2011 - ULSTER HALL in Therapy? Live
Wish I’d gone but I was in a pub in Bolton watching some god awful thing and desperately trying to drink my own body weight in Jack Daniels in an attempt to enjoy myself.
Didn’t help that I knew anyone with half a brain was in Belfast last night.
Still, looking forward to April!

Am now gloating at all those losers who were upset about not getting Stone Roses tickets and telling them to come and listen to some proper 90s music…at a TENTH of the price!

Re: UK Tour April 2012-CONFIRMED in Therapy? Live
I got so excited a little bit of wee came out.
But then I got unexcited when I realised the Leeds tickets weren’t on sale yet!
Will keep checking back every day to make sure.
In the meantime, I’m off to buy some Tena Lady.
PS Skindred are fucking AMAZING. Came across them a few years ago when they supported Pitchshifter. Been to see them a few times.
PPS WHY NO MANCHESTER? I feel like I’m betraying my Lancashire roots by having to cross the Pennines, I hope you realise. Luckily, I love Leeds.

Re: Red Dwarf in Chit-Chat
As an official Smeghead, I feel authorised to comment:
Series 1-6 Smegging awesome. As the Esperantinos would say, “Bonvolu alsendi la pordiston? Lausajne estas rano en mia bideo!”
Series 7 Smegging dire. Hermann Goering would have been more of a laugh.
Series 8 Smegging hell, that’s more like it. Schopenhauer was right, wouldn’t you say? Life without pain has no meaning.
Back to Earth Smegging hell, we’re getting desperate for a plot and partying less than Rudolf Hess. But it kinda works.
New series? I’m smegging excited. Please don’t smeg it up. Hopefully, this will be the viral strain Felicitus Populi, commonly known as “luck.”
Here’s my favourite EVER bit (I think; it keeps changing):
RIMMER: Is something amiss?
LISTER: (Slight quaver in him voice) Amiss? God no, what could possibly
be amiss?
RIMMER: You don’t think there’s anything amiss? I’m sitting here wearing
a red and white checked gingham dress and army boots and you think
that’s un-amiss?
CAT: No, of course not. It’s just that we thought you had gone nuts! We
were tryin’ to humour you.
RIMMER: I was just doing a little test — a little test to see if you had
gone crazy.
He abruptly tenses and lets out a horrible yell.
RIMMER: CHOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!! If there is one thing I can’t stand it’s
crazy people.
LISTER: Well we’ve passed the test, Rimmer. You can let us out.
RIMMER: I can’t let you out.
LISTER: Why not?
RIMMER: Because the King of the Potato People won’t let me. I begged
him. I got down on my knees and wept. He wants to keep you here.
Keep you here for ten years.
CAT: Could we see him?
RIMMER: See who?
CAT: The King.
RIMMER: Do you have a magic carpet?
LISTER: Yeah, a little three-seater.
RIMMER: So, let me get this straight. You want to fly on a magic carpet
to see the King of the Potato People and plead with him for your
freedom, and you’re telling me you are completely sane?!

Re: Evil viruses and being a bit crap on computers in Chit-Chat
Thanks for all your help! I admit to being a bit clueless with computers (other than knowing how to use one) and I did try searching for some anit-virus things on the internet to get rid of it but I didn’t really want to start messing about. Thought it would be better to get the pros in…
I think I’ve learnt my lesson the hard way

Evil viruses and being a bit crap on computers in Chit-Chat
Fellow Wombles…apologies if you already know about this but I’ve just had it and have to warn you ‘cos I like you all.
Anyway, if you never listen to me about anything else in your life then LISTEN TO ME NOW!
I know it sounds bleedin’ obvious but please be SO CAREFUL about what you click on the internet. I have just had to get my computer fixed, at the cost of 40 quid, as I managed to download a virus from an American website (god knows how…it was one of those ‘take this survey’ pop ups and I clicked ‘no’ and it installed itself).
The virus is called XP Secuirty 2011 and it tricks you into thinking that it is a virus checker (oh the irony…) and that all of your programmes have gotten sick so it won’t let you open up ANYTHING.
Each time it opens itself it attaches onto something else and eventually your whole computer is contaminated. I tried to fix it myself but it didn’t work so had to take it to the computer shop.
Here, I was told that my anti-virus programme (from 2007) was way too out of date for the ‘modern’ viruses. I’ve updated it now but please do not let this happen to you! Hopefully you guys aren’t as thick as me but I’m so worried that this may happen to somebody else I’m spreading the word!!!!
Sermon over!

Re: Memorable Andy Quotes in General Therapy? Topics
Ah…I wish I could remember them all but a time does stand out in the mid-late 90s (maybe ‘96? Can anyone help?!) when some of the crowd shouted ‘you fat bastard’ at him and he went backstage only to return with a multi-pack of crisps (I think cheese Doritos…), threw them into the pit and said ‘I may be fat but I’m as happy as fuck’.
There was also a time in Manchester around the same era (maybe even the same gig, who knows…) when the barrier collapsed and Andy asked us all to take a step back whilst they played ‘a little lift music’ as the security guys tried to fix it. I seem to remember it collapsed again and everyone got up on the stage.
And then there’s the customary ‘fuck George Bush’ before ‘Rock you Monkeys’. Saw/heard that one a few times. Loved it.
I wish I could remember more!!!!

Re: check out pagan riot there awesome in Other Bands & Artists
I’d say that Pagan Riot is like a nice cup of tea. It’s familiar and not too fancy. None of that Redbush or Camomile stuff. But it’s not a super-strong espresso. Nor is it a kick-arse cappucino. It’s definitely not a Jager-bomb. It’s just a nice cuppa with a sprinkling of sugar. It needs a jammy dodger to go with it though. A cup of tea is not a cup of tea without a jammy dodger.

I was in the Manchester St. Patrick’s Festival beer tent yesterday. The band in there played Status Quo (English) and Katie Perry (American). You could buy green hats outside and posters with shamrocks on them.
No T? though.

Anyway, back on topic. I’m listening to the album. It’s not bad. A little nod to Sweet and a little nod to the Ramones amongst others…

the lyrics ‘party over here f**k you over there’ are from a song that I think is called Friends and Family on Good to Go album.

Re: Quitting Smoking in Chit-Chat
I went on the piss on Friday and didn’t have a single one!! Perhaps it’s because I was on rum and not vodka?!?
I am beginning to realise how smelly ciggies are! Did I smell like that?!?!
My main concern is turning into a nasty ‘reformed smoker’ so I’m going to shut up now!

Re: RIP Gary Moore… in Other Bands & Artists
I really regret never seeing him live. Was always skint or busy when he came near to me but I always thought I’d be able to at some point!
Thin LIzzy’s January gig in Manchester focussed a lot on paying tribute to Phil so I would imagine they’d do something for Gary as well in Belfast.
