Re: James Dean Bradfield’s “The Great Western” in Other Bands & Artists

I’ve had the “pleasure” of hearing I Killed The Zeitgeist, Nicky Wire’s new gift to the world.

I almost cried. Richey’s corpse probably makes more appealing noises.

Re: Best Bands By WoM Artists in Other Bands & Artists

I feel quite bad for my laziness in helping out with the band.

Admittedly everything takes me twice as long now a black, backcombed fringe is covering my entire face, and my eyelashes are glued together from too much eyeliner anyway. It’s a hard life, this.

Can’t wait to hear it :)

Re: Best Bands By WoM Artists in Other Bands & Artists

Lyrics! For fuck’s sake, I’m still working on life experience; I’ll talk to you after my round the world trip ending in a 6 month tea drinking experience in India.

Ok, I can’t milk that any longer. If I drive round a roundabout in the next week I’ll take my dictaphone and record my thoughts :)

How’s the hair coming along?

I take it you’re talking about 300 Roundabouts!!! I would hate to think you were cavorting around with those hussies of other musicians

Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists

Not that exciting if you’re a casual fan though. I’m sure Mcfly and Westlife and a load of other bands I’m not interested in are selling out tours and having albums out, how is it exciting, really?

Now, Doherty got on his drama llama and gave it a good ride around. Let’s all admit, it’s quite fun to watch someone like that, he’s in the news every other day, and in interviews we get to hear all about it, and then, oh, look, a new single out.

Don’t personally aprove, but I know much more about Doherty than Oasis.

Re: The Worst Band Of All Time in Other Bands & Artists

How dare people listen to Libertines, when you consider Oasis better? The cheek of it.

Some people have grown up with the Libertines and now Babyshambles and Dirty Pretty Things. It’s already been 4 years since Up The Bracket and I still hear Time For Heroes (and 50 people singing along) in clubs.

Are Oasis really doing much exciting right now, musically or otherwise? Doherty’s like a soap opera. It appeals to people, it’s the exact definition of pop culture, and that is what is going to be carried forward.

Same debate in 10 years with Libertines replacing Oasis.

(For the record I’m neutral to both)

There’s the String Quartet Tribute.

Well, it’s a bit what you’re looking for, just classical…

Re: Hip-Hop/Rap kind of thing… in Other Bands & Artists

Fair bit of J5 and Dilated Peoples, don’t really listen to the more mainstream stuff but don’t mind a boogie to it once in a while.

Concrete Schoolyard is my ultimate BBQ song :)

How long do you reckon it will be til the influx of people proclaiming “it’s all shit” from hearing a 50 Cent songs once?

Re: Axl Rose arrested in Stockholm in Other Bands & Artists

From Popbitch:

>> Stockholm syndrome <<
Axl’s appetite for destruction.
Our Swedish sources have pieced together what happened in Stockholm the night Axl Rose got arrested. The show, panned by Swedish media as “an OK joke. No more, no less” finished around 11pm and Axl was driven to the Opera Cafe, where G N’R management had paid a crowd of blondes to greet the band, and had pre-ordered loads of Jack Daniels, kept “somewhere between 10 and 15 degrees Celsius.”

The partying continued at the Hotel Rival, owned by Benny from Abba, until about 8am when management called the police to ask Axl to go to bed. This is when Axl lost it, breaking the hotel bar’s mirror, and biting the leg of a security guard, who was then sent for a tetanus injection, as if bitten by a dog.

Re: Big Country in Other Bands & Artists

Half of my music collection and past gigs would be considered naff :)

I saw Rilo Kiley last year, who are a country-twee-indie band whose members were child stars in cheesy American shows and films and they were great. An ex dragged me to King Adora who were good in a drunken-glam way.

I saw NERD, Pink and Scissor Sisters at a festival who were good fun for all of 5 minutes until the novelty wore off.

Naff knows no bounds with the likes of Squeeze, Meat Loaf, Jethro Tull, Lindisfarne and I nearly saw Electric6 if I wasn’t snarfing their beer at the time.

Re: Fall out boy, panic! at the disco are the shape of punk to come! Who DISAGREES (I do) in Other Bands & Artists

Each to their own, but personally I just find it impossible to tell the difference between these sorts of bands; the vocal style is indistinguishable, I can’t see any talent in it, so they never set themselves apart. There will always be music aimed at young teenagers, there’s no use moaning about it, but now lots of clubs and bars are inundated by this type of music, considerably irritating as it sounds like the same song goes on for 2 hours.

Saying that I pikied a Panic album off my brother, there are a couple of catchy tracks but nothing to get excited about, just a novelty.

earthtone9, especially Amnesia off Omega. Fucking great song.
The Blueprint - Zero*Zero*One, Phenomenology and Ecliptic.
and Pitchshifter’s earlier stuff.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

I was sat at the side of the stage for one of their gigs years ago, there were pools of sweat beneath each of them. When there’s that much effort put in they’re not boring at all. I’d rather see a real show then a load of musicians just perform their songs and then rant on in interviews about how much shit they put up their nose.

Ian McKaye is a sweetheart as well :)

I’ll add Motorpsycho to my list of currently listening to as well, another band I managed to forget in recent years.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

I hate Super Scoopa purely for the fact that the end fucks with your head too much when stoned. Great song though :)

I’m listening to lots of Camera Obscura, probably far too much.
My First Days on Junk and Casiotone for the Painfully Alone for some strange lo-fi electronic reason.
Pavement, no one needs a reason to listen to them, just great.
Groop Dogdrill as I’m still regressing 6 years.
And Fugazi, I forgot how good they are.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

At the moment, Ballad of the Broken Seas, a collaboration of Isobel Campbell and Mark Lanegan. Unlikely duo but it strangely works and is strangely good.

Morphine, because bluesy jazz is always welcomed

And the Blueprint, just because.

^ The White Album play. I doubt it will make it out of Nottingham, looking at the reviews, but if you get the chance to see it, do. If you know the album well it’s so special :)

And grew brilliant moustaches and beards.

Best argument ever.

I saw a play a few months ago based on and around the White Album; forgot what a brilliant one that was.

Ignore the stuff you’ve heard everywhere, Let It Be is a great album; quite mellow and surprisingly guitar driven; Rubber Soul is also great for the more 60’s pop sound but moving away from the Hard Day’s Night stuff.

Underrated: Kinks. No one listens as much as they should

Underrated: Fat Freddy’s Drop; chilled out roots/dub/reggae/jazz/soul (according to Wikipedia) from New Zealand.

Playing the Brum Barfly on Thursday night as well.
