Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

I know this is off topic - but just had to post this. My granddaughter was born today. My second grandchild. What an earth moving, inspirational event. Knowing that you are meeting someone you will know for the rest of your life. Knowing that your souls were predestined to meet long before you were born. Seeing all the potential and promise of a new human life. And the lines from CT kept playing over and over again in my head “My shade will comfort you…”
I thought about that line as my Dad lay dying in 2010, thinking about how great he was to me. And now, this.
Human life is just awesome sometimes. Just awesome.

Yeah, hahaha. That’s why I checked it out. I had to look up “treacle” first. :)

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

Forgive me if this is old news to the more astute and alert T? fans, but I just watched the video of “Treacle Feet 3/3” on the website’s video section and picked up some of the early sounds of “Living the Shadow of a Terrible Thing”. I suppose this is old news to a lot of you - but it was kind of an epiphany to me. Yeah, Brother Tom’s Epiphany. Ok, that is all. Resume your normal lives now.

Re: I’m from America and Therapy? is my favorite band of all time in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

As we say here “true dat” KJC… There’s some talent here - quite a bit actually. But there is a lot of background noise too. I always thought/assumed that part of T?s appeal here should be that they are European. Maybe it’s just the era I grew up in, when the world was bigger, and bands from far away just seemed so much cooler. Now that the world is smaller, there really isn’t such a thing as a band from “far away” unless some Iranians start playing metal. That would be kind of cool.

Re: I’m from America and Therapy? is my favorite band of all time in New Members (Introduce Yourself)

I think this is a matter of marketing. T? is a brilliant band and given the right exposure to American audiences, I think would do well here. I’ve written all of my favorite radio stations, urging them to get LISOATT on the air. Haven’t heard it yet. (jackasses) I know a lot of T? fans aren’t particularly fond of Infernal Love, but I think IL was their best chance to break through in the US/Canada but were failed by poor marketing.
I’ll keep spreading the word here, and hope other American T? fans do too. I mean seriously - what’s not to love about this band?

Re: My dad doesn’t talk to me (anymore) in Chit-Chat

Hey “thefan…” sorry to hear about the situation with your Dad. Maybe I can shed some light on this. I’m 48 and have two adult kids ages 27 and 26, a 3 year old grandson and granddaughter on the way in a couple of weeks. (went to Catholic school - they didn’t teach contraception - had kids early) There are times that I know that I seem distant to them. I doesn’t mean that I don’t love them. But assuming that your Dad is my age, or older, when you reach this age, there are times that you get consumed with all the problems of life, you get tired from fighting those problems for years and years with no real change, and you become increasingly aware of your own mortality - watching your childhood friends start to die off from “old person” conditions like heart attacks and cancer. And with that, you can get kind of self absorbed and distant to the ones you love.

My Dad died in August 2010. Toward the end of his life, we a great reconciliation. He was distant for a period of time in his life. At the time, I thought he was a dick, I thought I was a disappointment to him, I thought he didn’t love me. I was wrong. He was just going through the same stage I just described. Try to keep in mind that your Dad is human too. He is going through stages too. He is breaking new ground in his life journey. And it can be difficult for him and you.

Hang in there buddy. And I know I am sounding like an old person here - but, one day, you will understand him and how he is acting. Don’t give up on having a relationship with your Dad. Because the day it is too late to reconcile, it is too late forever.

Good luck with this.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

Hey Sarge, I’m American too and have the same trouble finding T? things locally. I got several from Amazon UK, and yeah, it will set you back a few $. But I don’t mind spending a few extra bucks on things I like. I got ABCOL by ordering directly from Global. It was less expensive than Amazon UK, it was fast (it showed up in my mailbox 5 days after ordering) and the folks at Global answered my questions about ordering from them quickly and then followed up with me, which I appreciated. If you haven’t got ABCOL yet, I recommend ordering from Global.

On the other current topic, I don’t get the German reviewer thing. I lived there for several years, and found the regular volk to appreciate good music. I think there is a huge disconnect between the big headed reviewers and the real fans who spend their money on music. As a matter of fact, I am putting ABCOL on again right now. T?, Seagram’s VO and a warm southern California night. Life is good…

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

I have to agree with Epitome. I usually buy music that I really like after I have an opportunity to hear for free. Of course, anything T? puts out, I am going to buy anyway.

Re: Weirdest place you’ve found something Therapy? in General Therapy? Topics

There is a radio talk show in the US called “the Rush Limbaugh show” that uses pretty good bumper music coming back from commercial breaks. I heard the intro to “Screamager” on there once, years ago. Also saw the cover of “Nurse” in the background of a shot in the “Seinfeld” show. But I think someone else here mentioned that already.
I could see a lot of T? songs being good in a lot of movie soundtracks. Wish that would happen.

I think “Why Turbulence” is lyrically genius.

KJC, sorry. It looked like KIC at first glance.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

KIC,
I have often wondered about what makes music successful or unsuccessful when it crosses language lines. I lived in Germany for 9 years and am in the US now. One thing that strikes me about the difference between Troublegum and ABCOL is that the lyrics of Troublegum seem to be more simplistic and more easily understandable for a person who doesn’t speak English as their primary language. ABCOL, on the other hand had me scurrying for the dictionary several times (as did Crooked Timber) and English (albeit American English) is my first language. I wonder if that has something to do with it?

Of course, Troublegum seemed to be written musically to be widely appealing, while ABCOL seems like it would have limited appeal to a wide audience of non-T? fans. Just my thoughts anyway.

Re: A Brief CracK Of Light in General Therapy? Topics

I started listening to ABCOL on Rhapsody in the early morning hours of 6 Feb. (with the exception of “Walking in the Shadow…” which I played incessantly since it was released) I have to sign on with the “it’s a grower” crowd. I honestly didn’t like most of the songs at first listen. Thought they sounded discordant. But like a lot of folks here have written, some of the riffs have grown on me after a few listens.
I ordered the cd from Global on 31 Jan and it showed up in my mailbox on 6 Feb. I live in the middle of the US - so I was impressed at the fast shipping by Global (Good job, Global!) but unfortunately, I was out of town when it showed up, so I didn’t see the cd until this evening.
After reading the lyrics with the tunes stuck in my head, I have a whole new respect for this release and appreciate Andy’s writing more than ever (and already had a considerable respect for Andy’s writing ability).
I don’t know that this will ever be one of my favorite T? releases. So far, my favorites are LITSOATT, Get your dead hand off my shoulder, Before you…, Ghost Trio and Ecclesiastes (GREAT SONG!).
And finally, the first time I heard “Tightrope Walker”, I thought some drunken 15 year olds got loose in the studio. Absolutely hated it. It’s now one of my favorite T? songs. So, I think there is a huge “grow” factor here.
Happy listening fellow T? fans,
Tom

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

Well between going back and playing the video of “Living in the Shadow…” every few hours, I have been listening to “Mindfunk”, the original album that starts with “Sugar ain’t so sweet”. Not sure if it ever caught on in Europe. Pretty good jam.

Re: Lyrics Question in General Therapy? Topics

Just read that Steve Jobs’ last words were “oh wow, oh wow, oh wow”. I wonder what all of these people were seeing as they passed on?

Re: We’re Here Till The End in General Therapy? Topics

I just got my copy of We’re Here Till the End yesterday in the US. HOLY DOG SHIT! This fucking rocks! I love how this band brings the audience into the concert and makes it a group experience. I just wish I would ever have a chance to be in the audience since they don’t play here anymore.
The music and engineering is great. Best live album I have heard in years! I don’t think I have ever been this happy in my whole life. Ever.

I ordered mine from Amazon.com in the US. They said the release date isn’t until 19 November here. Glad to hear everyone giving great reviews.

Re: T? vids on youtube in General Therapy? Topics

Weird… I just stumbled upon a bunch of webgig songs on You Tube and have listened to some of the “B side” music like Suing God. Then I hear the B sides from Crooked Timber (Low Winter Sun and Don’t Try) and have to ask myself, why are these B side songs? They sound great! Clean them up a bit!

Living in the US, not much chance I’ll see the Deluxe Gold anytime soon. Anyone know where I can find the lyrics to “Don’t Try” and “Low Winter Sun”?

Re: World Cup 2010 in Chit-Chat

Not to beat this to death, the US goal was an error. Normally would not have happened and we (the US) caught a break there. But sometimes sports come down to dumb luck.
And again, being a new guy to the game, I like Rooney. Emotional, but I like the hard charging attitude. Good luck to England the rest of the way.

Epitome wrote:

All England’s keepers are shit, it’s their weakest position. I probably would’ve gone with Foster is I was picking the team, but Green would be my 2nd choice. Better than James or Robinson. This doesn’t really matter, but I’m in Canada at the moment, and the Americans are going to be far too smug about it for my liking. I just hope Slovenia beat America and go through instead.

I don’t think we (in the US) feel smug about this. More relief that we held our own against a better field of players but not necessarily better players making a better team.
I am just now learning this sport here - so my opinion should be valued accordingly.

Re: What’s EveryOne Listening To in Other Bands & Artists

T? is and always be my favorite (with Black Sabbath as a close second) but for the last few days, Avenged Sevenfold “Critical Acclaim” has been damn near giving me a chub. One of those few songs that completely capture my thoughts.
